For sightseers, climbing the 533 steps of the Kölner Dom is a must - soak up the amazing city views from the top of this famous cathedral before stopping for a Kölsch on the banks of the Rhine. Get a taste of Köln at the Chocolate Museum, catch an exciting show at the Lanxess Arena, and meet the local wildlife at the Lindenthaler Tierpark. Plus, after ending your day with a romantic walk across the Hohenzollern Bridge, you can head back to the hotel and enjoy a great night's sleep on a super-comfy bed.

This is my second stay at Premier Inn Sud Köln in 5 months. I was very satisfied the first time and decided to book it again for the Christmas market visit. The hotel is so warm and welcoming. All who work there are always smiling and welcoming. At the reception, Alexander helped us this time and he provided a full service. We had to wait few minutes while checking in, as the room was not fully ready. Then after a while, we were informed that our room was ready and Alexander gave us the keys to our room. When we arrive to the room, we realise that they are still cleaning it and the housekeeping employees informed us that it was not ready and needed 10 more minutes. So we decided to wait before the room. During this time, many of the housekeeping employees kept coming to this room and trying to clean. This got us worried that the room is not in a good situation. So we went down to the reception and informed them that we were worried the room was in a bad situation. So Alexander asked us to take a seat in the lobby and offered us coffee and our son hot chocolate on the house, and he went to check on the room after appologizing for keeping us waiting that long and informed us about the miscommunication that had happened between the reception and housekeeping about the room being ready/not ready. So after checking on the room's cleanliness and tidyness, Alexander invited to go to our room. It was a pretty stay. Very comfortable rooms. Clean. Neat. Tidy. The breakfast was great. They have a good variety and a great service. They direct keep refilling fresh food from bread assortment to fruits, cereal, sweets, to mugs and cutlery. Whatever you need, they try to provide it. They had oat milk and gluten free bread and options. This was great. Finally the location of the hotel is great. It is 3 minute walking distance to the metro station. The ride is 3 minutes away from the centrum. A great experience where the customer really feels king and feels the warmth of the happy welcome of the receptionist team. Definitely recommended

Check in was very slow but the assistant was polite. Only one member of staff doing check in so a queue had formed and seemed to be the norm for most of the time I was there.

This hotel is a modern and situated between two tram/U-Bahn station or a 20 minute walk to Koln Dom.

WIFI worked OK and I elected to have breakfast the next day paying 16.90 Euros for the hot and cold breakfast. Unfortunately all of the "hot items" were cold and what should have been scrambled egg tasted more like powdered egg.

As in all Premier Inn's, rooms are not serviced unless you ask for this to be done the day before so be warned!

I've scored this review average purely on the fact that the bedroom and bed is tiny. We had room 407 right by the lift.

The room is so small I could open the curtains from the bed. It's a squeeze past the shelf beneath the TV to get around the bed. Then a squeeze past the curtains into the bed. The bed is also only slightly wider than a single. Just for clarity, I'm 5ft10 and 12.5 stone, so not huge lol

Other than that, the hotel is good. The bathroom was a decent size. The shower powerful and hot. Complimentary soap

The room had a safe and ironing board. Complimentary tea and coffee but no water. Room and therfore coffee was not cleaned / replenished during our two night stay. Extra pillows in the cupboard and if you asked at reception choice of duvet thickness or softer pillows

Room despite being next to the lift was quiet.

Breakfast was OK. Usual cereals, fruit salad, breads and hams and cheeses. The staff make you fresh porridge and scrambled eggs if you wish. Well when i say fresh, I mean they add a topping to it for you.

Staff all friendly and it's only a 15/20 min walk to the cathedral. So location wise it's good.

Just a shame Premier Inn have been greedy and squeezed in too many rooms on a floor

Dear MattH, Thank you very much for your detailed and mostly good review. Even if we are sorry to read that your stay with us wasn’t fully to your satisfaction, because of the bedroom an bed size. Nevertheless we’re looking forward to welcoming you back soon. Kind regards, Your Premier Inn Köln Team

When looking for a hotel in Cologne, the Premier Inn in particular stood out to us for the comparatively low price they charge for a room. The hotel is located a bit to the south of the city centre, within walking distance of many of the major sights. The hotel staff is very polite and helpful in case you need any assistance.

Our room was located on the 16th floor, meaning that out of our window we had a magnificent view over the city. The room itself was quite modern and pretty stylish in design. Around the comfortable bed there was more than enough room for our luggage. The television was up to the standards that you would expect luxurious hotels to offer. The bathroom looked great as well and offered everything you will need. Other than that, it does need to be pointed out that the room did not have a fridge, but we did not find this to be a problem during a short stay.

This is an outstanding‘budget’ hotel! The rooms are beautifully finished and the bathrooms very well fitted. Breakfast covers British tastes but the continental element is delicious and best of all it is in the hotel unlike many Premier Inns. The staff could not have been better, all English speaking but happy to help us with our school child German. It is a short walk from both the centre and the river so it’s well placed and relatively cheap given that it is in the centre of a major city. We will be back!

Front desk staff was really rude and a mess; they kept trying to add extra fees onto my reservation and then charged me the wrong amount of days even though I showed them the exact res and had it booked 7 months ago.
Besides the terrible staff, food left outside rooms were left overnight with no cleanup, rooms were so tiny I had to open my suitcase on the bed. Maids did a good job and room was very clean.
Considering they were charging €270-€500 euros a night I would expect more.
Air conditioning is sort of functional; I put the dial down to 5 Celsius and it never got any cooler.
Location is decent, about a 20 minute walk to the dom and tourist areas and 20 minutes on public transit to the Koelnmesse.

We are regular users of premier inn hotels if we are doing the city break type of stay as they usually offer good value for money. This premier inn was ideal for our purpose. We like to walk to most places but if walking to the main places of interest isn’t for you, you would probably need to use the public transport which is close to the hotel. It was about a 20 minute walk to the cathedral area from the hotel. As some people have mentioned the room was small but it was more than adequate for our needs and we only slept in it as we were out exploring all of the day only returning really to crash out for the night. The only things that I thought was strange was that the hotel claim they are trying to reduce the cleaning in rooms and if you opt out of having your room cleaned the money saved goes to a children’s charity of some sort. We were more than happy to agree to not have the room cleaned, however what I will say is that the milk and toilet rolls etc still need to be replenished and this wasn’t the case. On our last night we had no milk so we asked for more milk sashes only to be told there wasn’t any. I genuinely didn’t believe this and believed that the chap on the desk really couldn’t be bothered to get us any. If we were to visit Cologne again in the future we would definitely look to use this premier inn if the price was competitive with other hotels in the city.

Comfortable room, close to centre (15 min walk from Dom, 15 min walk from chocolate museum) has a wheelchair accessible room, but the room has a slightly strange layout, wheelchair room has a big bathroom with level shower, but no shower chair! The bed is in an alcove so you could only get easily to 1 side of the bed, lifts to all floors (17 floors) we were on 4th floor. Bar and restaurant wheelchair accessible and disabled toilet in the lobby.

Regularly book premier inn hotels , expected the same service and quality , not quite up to scratch. Family room was tiny , when pull out bed was down had to shuffle around the room , not great with three people in the room , oddly the bathroom was huge , newish hotel so shouldn’t be this way ?

They don’t service rooms unless by request, requested it on second last day , needed towels , toilet roll etc, sadly didn’t happen !!

Premier Inn Cologne Sud is located between two U Bahn stations, not too far from each. Room was very small but clean. For a couple of nights, I think it should be okay.

Some issues were the front who I felt ignored by at the time of check-in. Maybe they were too tired by the lines of people. Wifi was patchy. Shower basin was easily flooded, so we had to take great care. In general okay, but not too impressive considering it is a travellers choice property.
