If you take 10 min before a Booking Referral and look for reviews, you don't have to complain about it and sometimes write unfair reviews.
We were very pleased. On the day of arrival we were already at the hotel at 1:45 p.m. and knew that we still have to wait until 3 p.m. After a few minutes, a very nice staff member from the "sister hotel" Baseler Hof approached us and we were then already able to get to our room at 2 pm. In general, the service and friendliness is very important here!
The rooms are very clean, with a floor with tiles of course very advantageous.
The small, narrow shower is almost cult. Due to the existing floor plan, there is simply no more space available for a larger shower. You just have to see it once...
The fact that the reception is staffed only in the morning did not bother us at all. You can get rid of your questions in the morning and at the same time take a coffee and croissants (I loved them!). We had three cards available for access to the hotel and our room, which worked without any problems at all times. Otherwise, there is the reception in the sister hotel just around the corner.
We felt very well taken care of, the only downside is the noise from the road traffic with the window open, which unfortunately runs through the night. It was 30 degrees during the day, so you just had to let the cooler air into the room at night. Either we take a room to the garden side next time or we come in a cooler season.
Many thanks to the great team of Michaelis Hof!
I recommend it to anyone who wants to visit the city because it is located in the center of Hamburg and there are tons of attractions to visit within a few minutes walk. excellent value for money. Friendly and welcoming staff and spotlessly clean place
The area was fine, with a few little restaurants and cafes nearby. They offer complimentary coffee and crossiants in the morning to take to your room. There is a S Bahn stop just up the street, so it's easy to get to the main train station.
Overall our stay was acceptable for the price and the room was clean and pleasant. It's just a shame it was so hard to find and access.
Now to the things that unfortunately trigger a one-star rating: If I imagine beds in prison, then it's exactly like this. I've never slept in such an uncomfortable bed. Sleeping through the night here is only possible with a lot of back pain, until you're thrown out of bed by the room service who comes way too early or because the hallway/neighboring room is being vacuumed at 8 a.m. Luckily, you don't need an audio book to fall asleep to here, you can just listen to the conversations from the next room.
At least you can't complain about the cleanliness here. Towels are changed every day, even if they're still hanging on the hook unused. The service staff also take care of the disposal of deposit bottles, and as a thank you, they keep the deposit. During the visit, there are also tradesmen in the room and replace the refrigerator, for example. The advantage is that the room is redecorated and the bed is placed across the room. I then decided to put it where it was before, because otherwise you couldn't get to the desk.
It's nice that you get a very mild coffee in the morning, or maybe just colored water. There's also a croissant from the day before.
During my stay I also used the kitchen in the room. Outdated technology meets even older pans and pots. It's definitely recommended to clean them thoroughly beforehand.
Now to the conclusion. For the high price I would have expected something. For only €200 more, some hotels in Hamburg offer better quality and, above all, not prison beds.
The hotel doesn't have receptionist during afternoon or night. You have a machine where you need to do the check-in yourself. This was not a problem. it is really easy and you have 6 different languagues.
On the morning the receptionist was really friendly and offered us croissant and caffe.
We spent three nights, the location is not ok, it is BETTER!!! you are very close to the Rathaus (5 min), st Pauli (4 min), Opera (8 min) and the harbour (15). Of course, my wife and I like to walk too much but .... the location was really a surprise for us, it is really good.
So, i have no questions, next time we will come back.
I guess that most guests are the participants to the various religious meetings held in the Catholic cultural center. And this a reason why having this kind of experience... :-)
There`s not reception desk, guests receive a code for a self-check-in machine located in the street. The machine prints your plastic keycard and I had a little panic when the keycard failed to open the door.... - it was very late at night under heavy rain :-(
I discovered an emergency button and to my surprise a voice answered my call and provided me with another code for the check-in machine, which ended in a new card - a good one.
Rooms are small and basic, but there's everything needed for a good night sleep, including wi-fi and well-equipped bathroom.
Breakfast is not included nor there`s a cafeteria, but guests are welcome to complimentary coffee and croissants upon morning departure.
Location is unbeatable, in the very city centre and 30mt far from S-Bahn Line 1 station.
Price equally unbeatable: 89€ / night (!)
The room is cosy, it has enough space for luggage etc, and I find it ideal for when travelling alone on a business or a study trip. My room had a desk next to the window with a great city view, so with the internet access I could easily and pleasantly work from here.
There is a bit of noise from the cars in the street, but generally it is quiet.
There is no breakfast, but they do serve complimentary coffee and croissants, which is great when you want something small to fill you up just enough before going to explore the city. There are many places to have a proper breakfast nearby.
Finally, it feels like a safe place to stay and safety is always a concern when travelling alone, and it's very affordable.
It was a fairly cheap stay. Be advised that the reception is only manned between 7 am till noon. If you arrived outside these hours, as we did, you have to check in at an automat, where you type in your booking number and then get a key card from the machine. This key card also accesses the underground parking lot.
Also the hotel is one floor on top of a Catholic Community Center or something like that. But we never noticed anything from the lower floors.
However, we were unlucky the first night to get the probably worst room at the hotel (No. 943). No aircon, no fridge and the fact that the hotel recommended that we didn't open the windows due to small flies. So the first night's sleep was bad due to the heat.
The next morning, we made our complaint to the staff, and we were given the choice of two other rooms which both had aircon and mini-fridge.
In this case we'd like to recommend Daniela, who was very nice, helpful, understanding and a good laugh and at the same time fixed our problem with a smile. That's german service for you, thank you Daniela.
Breakfast is a croissant and a cup of tea or coffee served in the reception.
The hotel all in all is more of a hostel. Personally I prefer hotels where the reception is manned at all times.
Despite the earlier mentioned complaints the hotel is ok if you just want a place to sleep. The rooms were clean, and the staff is very friendly, helpful and polite. On the day of departure, you can use the parking lot that connects with the parking garage for free until you leave.
Our experience is that the rooms on the court side of the hotel are very quiet except for the church bells. Rooms towards the street are a bit noisy, but nothing that kept us from sleeping.
If you go, don't expect luxury, but a hotel that gives you place to sleep and rest a bit.
"All rooms are on the 4th floor. Rest of building is a Catholic College centre. Very quiet when we were there. No noise from outside at all. Our room was 352."Read full review
"One side looks out on to an office building (bit awkward when walking around after a shower!) and the other side would look out on to the main road. Double-glazing soundproof windows so probably best to go for that side."Read full review
"Ask for one on the 'garden' side, as you then get a view of the Michael church."Read full review
