I stayed for 4 nights so I think I have a good overview of how good the hotel is.
There is a sauna and a hamam (the latter currently did not work), located on the 5th floor. It was very quiet on a Friday afternoon in June. There is an emergency button 🆘 in the hamam (dampbath)- don’t press it! It says « notruf » with a mosquito 🦟. It’s an emergency button and the staff comes running to you…
Breakfast is good, not as amazing as some people say. Lots to eat but not very varied, or at least not like I thought.
Room are cleaned and sheets are changed daily. There is a fridge in the room but no bottle of water 💧
Merci 🙏 beaucoup

I have stayed at the Novotel Alster for two nights on a business trip to Hamburg. The hotel is easy reachable from the airport by taxi or public transport (with U1 and U3 station entrance right outside the property). Check-in was quick and efficient and given my Accor status I was also treated to a welcome drink.
My room was located on the second floor featuring a basic interior but was of decent size. Water and coffee making facilities were provided. Whilst it was not overly hot during the time I spend in Hamburg, the room certainly had issue with the A/C which did not really work (fan blowing but no cold air being delivered regardless of the selected temperature). Another small issue has been the relatively small pillow.
The bathroom was clean with modern interior. Amenities being provided in form of two large dispensers of Rituals shampoo and shower gel.
Breakfast was served in the ground floor restaurant providing a very decent selection of hot and cold options. This included a very good selection of fresh bakery items.
Overall, I would rate the hotel/stay at 3.5 out of 5. The hotel has a few shortcomings; however, the location (at least in my case), breakfast and staff make up for this.

We were given an upgrade, which we gladly accepted. The junior suite was very spacious, had a Nespresso machine and kettle. Bicycles could be parked in the underground car park free of charge.
The breakfast room at the back was a bit noisy and the queue at breakfast wasn't so nice. The service staff were very friendly and immediately implemented requests.
The location is also good - you can reach the Inner Alster in 5 minutes by bike. Otherwise very centrally located.
We have been there several times and will definitely come back.

Awful housekeeping in this Accor venue. Towels not replaced, came back after a days work and found not a single towel anywhere. Three calls to clueless reception barely able to speak German. Housekeeping will knock and enter despite sign on door. Surrounding area full of drug addicts and homeless. Lobby impossible as cold and incessant muzak. Staff basically clueless throughout.

The hotel room was filthy, we stayed with my two little daughters and my wife.
Drink marks on the walls, the gaps between the windows are so dusty that they look like mud, the room smells of dust. Photos are deceiving.
Since the cleaning lady did not come to the room, we were forced to pay an extra 100 euros for the cleaning the next day. They opened the room again by making a payment in person at the reception, on the grounds that the door card did not work without payment. I can forward the letter regarding the payment and the hotel request letter.
My 2-year-old daughter and I were kept waiting at the room door for 30 minutes.
Definitely do not go with your family, especially your children.

Had a wonderful stay for 3 nights at Novotel City Alster.
The suite was big and clean and everything worked.
Breakfast had large variations to pick from and all from the staff was friendly.
The hotel have undergrund parking for cars and is located next to u- bahn station so it is so easy to go around in Hamburg from the hotel.

the breakfast was ok, although crowded with long queues.
room description was wrong, there was supposed to be a desk in our room that we needed, but there was none and no action from the hotel after we complained.
coffee/tee cups were not cleaned when the room was cleaned. also bedsheets were not changed even once during our three nights stay.
not recommended.

This covers a few visits, we have stayed here multiple times and really like the location. It’s a typical Novotel but feels very recently decorated/opened, at the more modern end of their hotels.
Staff very courteous and professional - well, except one, I’ll come back to.
Rooms lovely and spacious, beds comfortable. Everything you’d need really.
Short walk to some lovely shops/restaurants in the nearby area, and you’re directly onto the u-Bahn outside the hotel, on a line that takes you to the waterfront (except this summer when the line was closed for maintenance past the Hbf)
We have always managed to park the car on Lubeckerstraße for free when visiting, which feels like a bonus.
Will definitely be back, but just wanted to make a special mention to the bar keeper who was there on our last two visits. Not sure if he was trying to be funny, but he came off as rude and obnoxious, and a world away from the service you’d expect pretty much anywhere. Could be we were misunderstanding him (we speak German) but he truly stood out, and especially amongst his colleagues who were lovely.

During my stay at the hotel, I was able to experience different aspects which left me with a mixed impression.
The hotel has positive points, but also some disadvantages which could be improved.
On the plus side, the hotel's location is ideal. It is located near a metro station, making it much easier to get around the city.
Breakfast is also a highlight. A wide choice is available.
The hotel's wellness area is another asset. With a space dedicated to well-being such as the sauna or gym. This adds a relaxing touch to the overall experience.
As for families with children, the hotel offers a space specially designed for them. With a PlayStation and various puzzle games available.
However, the staff are polite but sometimes lack warmth and enthusiasm. A warmer and more personalized welcome would be a big plus to improve the customer experience.
In addition, the hotel lobby lacks interest. It is rather impersonal and lacks rest areas or spaces to cool off. A comfortable corner with seating and refreshing drinks could make the wait more pleasant for guests arriving early or waiting to check out.
As for the rooms, they are quite basic. Although clean and well maintained, they lack character and charm.
In summary, my stay at this hotel was average with positive points such as proximity to the metro, good breakfast, wellness area and children's facilities. However, the impersonal welcome, uninspiring lobby and basic rooms also played a role in my overall experience. Taking these aspects into account, I would recommend this hotel for a short and convenient stay, but there are areas where improvements could be made to provide a more pleasant and memorable experience for guests.

A very conveniently located hotel (subway entrance directly at the building) for vacationers and business travelers. You are very fast at the port and the Alster. Everyone, from the reception, to the hotel bar and breakfast team, to the maid were extremely friendly and accommodating. Especially pleasant are the long breakfast times (until 10:30 a.m. during the week) and the first-class breakfast. The only downer: The lighting in the bathroom is not for the short-sighted or elderly. Shaving blind for 8 days is uncomfortable and not possible. Otherwise only recommended.

yes they do have a few smoking rooms but inform them while booking as there limited smoking rooms
We saw several families and even dogs in the hotel so I would guess they would have a room that would suit you. Be sure to ask for a room at the back of the hotel it is very much quieter.
Dear Barbara,
we have an underground car park.
You can stay here for 18,00 Euro per night.

The hotel is 10 minute walk to good restraurants.. The location is central and the hotel is comfortable with good staff and facilities. There are bus stop close by but we walked to most places. The hotel is typical 4 star and value for money. We were very satisfied.
Hi, like the other answer I also didn't see or expect (a hotel of this quality to have) a coin operated launderette. I didn't need the services of laundry cleaning during my stay in hamburg. I think there will be a public one within 2km.
