Detailed Reviews
Spent 1 night at this hotel. We were greeted by friendly and helpful reception staff. We sat in lovely garden area behind the hotel and enjoyed a drink while the room was made ready. Fantastic service all around. Breakfast was good and plentiful and our room was a good size and on the rear of the hotel overlooking the garden. Room has a nespresso machine and complimentary water. Central station is a 10min walk and the lakes are just a 2min walk down the street.
The hotel is dog friendly and you will likely find 2 friendly dogs roaming around the hotel.

Really nice hotel located close to a nice walking area along the lake and also to a street called Lange Reihe, which had every conceivable type of restaurant without being too upmarket. Also easy walking distance from the railway station even when pulling a suitcase. All in all was a good choice of hotel in Hamburg.

A great location in St, Georg, no welcome at breakfast however.
As we were due to arrive late evening, we’d booked to dine in the attached basement restaurant; the receptionist was anxious that we’d missed it; we had, due to flight delay.
When she said we’d lost our reservation, we thought we’d lost our room, panic, but no just the restaurant booking, phew😊
Restaurant was good simple vegetarian Italian, nice wine
Room was lovely. Garden lovely
But no acknowledgement of presence at breakfast was unsettling ..
The hostesses did warm up; we liked their dogs
It has character

Room Tip: It’s a short walk from the main station in an interesting area, near the Alster

We enjoyed our stay in this trendy little boutique hotel. It is bright, modern and stylish and the staff were all very pleasant.
Although it is fairly near the central station which in many European cities is not a good location, this by contrast is excellent. You have great transport links and the area is fairly upmarket. One nearby street is has bars and restaurants (several Portuguese/Asian) and is the gay centre apparently. On the other side of the road is the beautiful Alster and a wide main boulevard. So location ideal.
The room we had was fairly small for a double and on the top floor so although we had two fashionable and modern skylights, we had no windows to look out of. However it was very private and quiet up there.
I would stay there again, but I would ask for a room with a window.
Great breakfast.

We stayed in Aussen Alster for three nights during worl cup. The Hotel is o.k. - good location, nice and clean rooms (but really small), breakfast very good, very friendly service in the Hotel.
But do not consider - as it is stated on the website - that this is Hamburgs smallest luxury hotel. As stated before it is nice but at the end my definition of luxury is quite different - considering the room rates I expected more.
When we entered the Hotel restaurant in soccer shirts (my parents - 65 years old - me, my wife and our baby), we have been received very unfriendly from the rstaurant staff and at the end not been served, claiming that there is no high chair for our baby available. By the way, for breakfast in the next morning, a chair was available. So do not rely on the hotel restaurant but there are really nice restaurants close to the hotel.

This hotel equipped with an elevator is located near the train station. Our room was clean and well-arranged with a good size bathroom. English-speaking staff members were pleasant and very helpful. The continental breakfast was adequate, and the hotel provided free use of the Internet on a computer outside the lobby.

We stayed three nights at the Aussen Alster Hotel in Hamburg and wish it could have been much longer. The rooms are clean and neat, the breakfast terrific (great coffee too) and the location and the staff were just wonderful.
It is short walk to train and bus and there are lots of bakeries, cafes, restaurants and pubs to get all you need. It is a really quaint part of town. And the lake is also just a short walk away.
Wish a few of the more starred hotels would follow the example of this excellent establishment!

wonderful 12 day stay for the 2007 World Triathlon championships. Walking distance to City Center, plenty of restarants nearby, great public transit and inexpensive taxis at night. Hotel room was quiet, large, clean although elevator is typically European. Breakfast was varied and tasty, staff was very accommodating to special needs. On-site restarant was popular with locals - a good sign- and we enjoyed 3 meals there. Would highly recommend for short or long term stay in beautiful Hamburg

Location and ambience: The Aussen Alster Hotel is located near the Aussenalster tucked away in the quiet Schiemlinskystrasse (St. Georg neighbourhood). The city centre, central station, some nice small restaurants and all major sights are within walking distance. The interior is stylish in a modern matter-of-fact way with lots of chrome and black leather. Despite all "coolness" of the interior, there is a very quiet and familiar atmposphere. A Fireplace and candles are lit in the afternoon. ****
Rooms: The rooms are equipped in a conveniently minimalistic way. However, do not expect large American-style rooms. The grey plastic door knobs and carpets do not fit well and are a reminiscense of the 80s. Enjoy the large windows and high ceilings. ***1/2
Breakfast and Restaurants: The breakfast buffet offers a wide range of food from fruit and cereals over eggs and bacon to very typical northern-German fish and sausage stuff. On some days the staff was annoyingly inattentive and we got our coffee only after several minutes and repeated requests. ***
Service: Friendly, somewhat cool (probably hanseatic).***1/2
Bang/Buck ratio: Very nice individual ambience and central location for a reasonable price. ****

Smallish (however appearances may deceive) hotel bit apart from touristic center, but I consider that a good thing, because it's about 15 minute walk (or maybe quicker by public transport, but I felt no need). Hotel is quiet, clean, staff friendly and helpful. Breakfast were not lavish, but very sufficient (even with occasional specialties, like assortment of fish or fresh salmon). It's about fifty meters to the Alster lake for joggers, cyclist or just a nice walks.
