Hotel Mare and Hotel Miramar have the same owner: Ms. Ute Tietz. Especially the Hotel Mare is not really a hotel but a charming pension, away from the city centre. Yet easy to reach it by bus line 6 or U3. It has no reception.
Rooms are, otherwise as written in information folder in rooms, without phone and fridge. Therefore no room service. There is no restaurant. Soups are from the tin and warm up by microwave. House lady and service are very friendly and helpful. Daughter of the house is less charming. No pool.
How to get there from the airport: S1 to Barmek, change here to line U3 to Uhlandstrasse.

Beautiful large rooms with balcony, generously equipped, modern bathrooms, fantastic breakfast, warm and helpful personnel, short walk to the Alster, to Lange Reihe, a famous shopping street, and other central places. Only 15 min drive from airport, easy free parking all around. It will be an easy decision to return to the same hotel for my next stay in Hamburg.

Marketing: Yes, you'll get a bathtub. Reality: Nah, you'll get a shower. Apart from that, the hotel is nice, the room is clean, noise from the traffic is acceptable and there's not much to complain about. They just don't deliver what they sell.

To be honest the hotel wasn't great... Very disappointing considering the price I paid.
Hotel had scaffolding all around it and portal loos,
Reception was not in the hotel but a few streets down-not ideal.i was promised my keys would be in a safety deposit box - they weren't , I then had to wait 1/2 hour in the cold at 1:30am for someone to come down with a key-totally not acceptable. No coffee in the room, overall not good.. £260 euro was massively over priced for my stay, not happy about this. It was my partners 30th surprise birthday and this hotel let it down, far better places to stay for that price. The service was just not acceptable.
Also was promised a room with a view.. It wasn't. It was on the ground floor too.. Couldn't see anything.
Very disappointing overall.

A simple hotel with great access to public transportation and excellent cleanliness in washrooms. Of course, absence of towels in the bathroom was a little strange for me and there were only shampoo and tissues in bathroom!!
About breakfast I should say that it could have been much better. Limited choices on the breakfast table was a little irritating.
The hotel environment was so quiet and a very beautiful and green balcony in front of the room helped its serenity. The quality of the Internet was not acceptable at all. Slow speed and repeated disconnections were so annoying.
The TV in the room was somehow old and had twenty local channels which would not give any non-German guests any freedom of choice.
It should also be noted that the hotel reception was about 20 meters farther and was shared with Miramar Hotel.

Stayed here and on arrival hotel looks lovely and reception is immaculate and had high hopes for my room.
That's where it ended..!
I was given room 15 across the street from reception. It was poor quality with poor decor poor, dated, cheap furniture and a tv that would have looked better in a skip. Can't remember when I last saw a room decorated in woodchip wallpaper? The tv channels didn't have any English speaking channels.
The bathroom was an add on years ago and the access to the shower is laughable and thankfully I'm only small as an average sized person would genuinely struggle getting in.
Breakfast was superb in a lovely breakfast room and the waitress was very attentive.
I was disappointed as I saw other rooms that were immaculate and looked very comfortable. Apparently there 3 rooms that are the budget rooms I guess I got one of those.
Excellent location at the alster lake. The M6 bus takes you to the city centre for a very small fee.
Hotel is €25 in a taxi from the airport.
Overall a very nice hotel but our room was poor and I would request not to be allocated this room when I go again

We booked this hotel for a first time visit to our old neighbors who moved back to their hometown Hamburg. This hotel is located in a pleasant neighborhood near the "Alster" lake Hamburg centre.
It was a convenient 5 minute walk to our friends place and also minutes from bus and metro stations. You could also take an easy walk to the "Altstad" (old centre) in 30 - 40 minutes.
We first had doubts about the only room available (in the basement) when we made reservations but we took the chance. It turned out to be a pleasant surprise (as is the city of Hamburg), if you're traveling light without big suitcases. This room is not very big but does have 2 easy chairs and a wardrobe (not enough cloth hangers), the beds are very good (for us) and it has a big window (for fresh air and daylight) looking out to the back garden (from ground level). The room incl. the bathroom was spotlessly clean. Shower is good. You could see that the place has been renovated not too long ago. We haven't seen the other rooms but it we assume that they have been done too. This basement room is very quiet at night. Good breakfast with plenty of choice.
Friendly service. No reserved hotel carpark but parking in the streets is (still) free so that was no problem. Wifi available. All in all, a nice place to stay for a reasonable price. We can recommend this hotel to anybody.

We stayed here during our Europe trip with my wife and my 2 boys. The staff is very friendly and extremely helpful. A clean and cosy small hotel which makes you feel comfortable and relaxed.

The rooms are a little small for the price you pay and the interior is simple but functional.

The hotel is well located not far from the centre, you can actually walk alongside the lake shore to the centre of the city, or you can take a bus or metro. The building is, I'd say, an apartment house turned partly into a smallish hotel with nicely a\nd comfortably furnished rooms - our was with a balcony. They serve excellent breakfast in a room with large windows from where you can see the tree lined street. Thedre is no restaurant however, jusgt a breakfast room. In good weather a bike ride around the lake would be tempting.
