What a wonderful hotel. The renovation did it good! Have been to Hamburg again for a couple of days and stayed at the recently renovated Steigenberger. The new rooms are superbly appointed, give a lot of comfort and warmth. Super rain shower in the bathroom. Sadly the new restaurant was not yet completed, but it is something to look forward to. The temporary bar is good and offers enough choices. Gladly, the staff is still spot on and very friendly and helpful. Highly recommended.

The service in this hotel was amazing. The concierge helped me get taxi rides (there is an app for that), Guided me to the train station and gave me a schedule for the times I wanted to travel. They even had power converters available.
The room was spacious and comfortable, TV, Fridge, Desk, no microwave.
The bed was medium firm.
I had a great view of the canal and a church tower in the distance.
The room was warm and the AC did not help much, I opened the window, but could not leave them open at night (due to street noise).
The bath room was huge lots of room for a "big" guy, great shower. The tub was extra deep, I had a challenge getting in and out.
There were robes and slippers available
The breakfast buffet (comes with the room) was excellent, they served food fresh off the grill as well as fruits, cereals, yogurt, breads, meats. I would go back just for the breakfast.
It has a piano bar and restaurant.

The hotel has a very stately feel. Staff are well trained and professional, but most importantly they were always helpful and polite. While the fitness center was under renovation, I found that the hotel was very wise to arrange for the use of the professional Fitness First gym which was just across the street. All well thought out! Meeting rooms were clean and well set out.

This five star hotel has a perfect location in the centre of Hamburg, but still in a rather calm place with a small square with some restaurants and bars just outside the hotel entrance. Parking garage under the hotel, expensive. Very good breakfast. Big rooms, we had a very nice one with a view of the St Nikolai church monument. Slow check in - only one attendant at the front desk at check in time after four in a weekday afternoon is not acceptable. I felt a not unfriendly but stiff atmosphere in the hotel (or maybe I just had bad luck to see the same correct but very unpersonal front desk attendant both at check in and check out); I believe that as a guest in an expensive luxury hotel you deserve a smile and a friendly attitude. Not dog-friendly, dogs not allowed in the breakfast room, according to the front desk.

This hotel is really central and convenient. The hotel was undergoing refurbishment but the disruption was completely minimised and didn't cause any problems at all. The rooms are spacious, well designed and attractive. There are lots of small attentions to detail too which really make a difference to your comfort. Breakfast is amazing. A massive variety to choose from and a long time window. We ate in the restaurant and the food was excellent. There were amazing views over Hamburg. The real strength of this hotel though is the staff. They are very efficient, very friendly and nothing is too much trouble. I highly recommend this hotel.

On our first visit to Hamburg it was a relief to have chosen the Steigenberger Hotel as our accommodation. Arriving mid morning we knew our room wouldn't be ready until mid afternoon; the Hotel messaged us as soon as it was available, ahead of the scheduled time. Also they stored our luggage and recommended some places of interest nearby that we may like to visit in the meantime. Booking in was quick and easy and our room was large and very well appointed, especially the bathroom. Breakfast was included in our booking; the breakfast room was on the lower level of the Hotel and consisted of a very comprehensive buffet. We also enjoyed an excellent dinner in the Hotel's recently opened restaurant "Stadthaus". The approach by staff throughout the Hotel was very friendly and professional. It was a pleasure to stay at the Steigenberger and we look forward to an opportunity to stay there again.

Fantastic service from Paulina. She checked me into the hotel efficiently. Told me all about the services offered by the hotel. She was friendly and helpful. I had asked her to help me pay a traffic ticket that was written in German. She read the ticket, translated and helped me figure out how to pay it. Thank you.
The hotel was under renovation but the room was very nice. It was quiet and had a nice view of the canal. The location is very central-walking distance to most sites and to the shopping areas. Would definitely stay here again.

This was the second stay at a Steigenberger after having stayed at Steigenberger Heringsdorf this summer (see separate review, also average). They have a sign at the hotel that states 5* superior hotel but by no means is this hotel better than a 4* hotel (without Superior)! So: no small floral arrangement in the room, no fruit or anything like that, no writing kit, not even an in-room dining menu in the room, only 2 pillows per bed (Twin Room), no proper vanity kit in the bathroom, soap & shower gel dispensers with wall mount like a 2* hotel instead of small toiletries, empty minibar with the info that you can go yourself to the reception to take stuff from there (!) but the best is the sign that you get a 5 EUR voucher if you skip room cleaning! I mean not per night, per stay! When you pay minimum 250 EUR per night, tempting, right? Room cleaning not even with vacuuming (found crumbs and hair at the same spot after "cleaning")! No turndown service with prepping the bed, also here like in Heringsdorf NO change of bed linen for the 3 nights stay. This is a total joke of "luxury" or "superior" whatsoever. Breakfast completely overcrowded, queue with 10+ people at checkout, and when asking the bellhop for an umbrella he said "you can get one from the reception" instead of bringing it! No Lobby Bar and yes the room is refurbished but tastelessly and functional, not luxurious at all, looks the same like Motel One. OK, it's about more than double if you would stay at Vier Jahreszeiten Hotel but at least there it is definitely luxury & superior! Steigenberger is a shame for any relation with 5* luxury hotels. Unbeatable is only the location, but close by is also the Tortue Hotel which is 4* but looks great and has an amazing bar.

We chose the Steigenberger as our base to explore central Hamburg and enjoy the Christmas markets and it was the perfect choice. The hotel is well located, easy walking distance to the major shopping streets and attractions such as the Rathausmarkt, St Nikolai and Elbphilharmonie. There are several supermarkets nearby and there was even a Christmas market right behind the hotel. The room was clean, modern and spacious with good heating and ventilation. The breakfast area at the top of the hotel has a panoramic view of the city, a wide range of food and efficient staff. The front desk staff were extremely helpful, finding a specialist violin shop for us, making restaurant bookings and, having noted my coming birthday, surprising me with a small cake at breakfast. Would definitely stay there again.

The Good.. Hotel location in the centre of Hamburg is fantastic.. Rooms are very good, cleaned daily & the shower was brilliant…
The Bad.. We stayed for 3 nights - Saturday and depart Tuesday.. There is no bar… The restaurant was only open for our first night - closed Sunday & Monday.. We weren’t aware of this.. We were told at reception there are many bars within 500 meters and they could show us where to go.. Nice prepared reply… The lobby toilets are located downstairs beside the restaurant. These were locked on Sunday & Monday. We were told we had to “go to our room” to use the toilet.. So it was in the front door and straight to our room for 2 of our 3 days. That doesn’t represent our many hotel stays in the past. It more an apartment block feeling. And at more than an average of €300 per night we are very very disappointed..
