Large room with a large bed( 1,80 x 2 m) and very clean.
Breakfast is very good - having all you need and you can easily be a tourist afterwards.
Garage in the basement( lift down from the stree)- Works very well and the best way to see Hamburg is to walk.
24/7 at the reception and we enjoyed 2 days stay and gladly will come back
The airport Express bus passes the door and stops at the Hauptbahnhof which is only five minutes walk away. The hotel is on a street (Lange Reihe) which is not a main road and therefore reasonably quiet. Arrived at 22:45 - reception staff spoke excellent English, were very friendly and fuss-free and a free welcome drink was offered.
Accomodation itself was clean and roomy; twin beds (comfortable); small tv (English language channels limited to CNN & Eurosport); desk & chair; coffee table and bucket armchair. Decent-sized bathroom with shower over the bath - plenty of hot water and no cracked tiles or dirty grouting. There is a hair-dryer but no toiletries apart from handwash/shower gel.
The room was non-smoking but there was an ashtray on the table and a couple of burn marks on the furniture so I suspect that it had only relatively recently been designated non-smoking. I find that the results of smoking are detectable in a hotel room until it has a complete re-decoration but this seems to be quite common in Europe. It really was only a hint of a residual odour and I am being super-critical here.
The room faced onto the street and, while not busy, there is a little traffic noise. There is no air-con so I slept with windows closed, which cut out all noise and happily the room did not get stuffy overnight.
Plenty of choice at the breakfast buffet and the English-speaking staff were again very friendly. A number of tables are set in a conservatory-type area, overlooking the street, which is very airy and pleasant.
The area around the hotel seems fine and there are restaurants and cafes up and down Lange Reihe. There is a supermarket under the hotel and a pharmacy a couple of doors down.
All told this makes a reasonable choice for a short stay in Hamburg (which is all the city realistically requires). Service was friendly and efficient and it is in a decent and convenient location. I am sure that there are more luxurious hotels in Hamburg but for a good balance between cost and facilities I would recommend and use it again - hence my above-average rating. But they do need to sort our their website!
On arrival the receptionist was really friendly and welcoming and offered me a courtesy drink before I went to my top floor room. I had asked for a room with a balcony, and Rita, who handled my booking, had done me proud, it was quiet, had a pleasant view and got the morning sun. I was impressed by its good size, which provided everything I could ask for, a bath, shower, wc, safe, large tv, fridge, trouser press,
free Wi-Fi and a kettle for the extensive range of hot drink supplies.
Breakfast at the Senator starts at 06-30 and provides everything you would expect, eggs, bacon, cheeses, smoked salmon, various cold meats, cereals, fruits endless types of bread and rolls , a fine way to start the day!
The hotel is in a street called Lange Reihe , which has a great variety of restaurants, so your evening meal is right on your door steep.
Whilst in the city I saw various other hotels in a variety of locations, most of which were not as desirable as that of the Senator.
A big thank you to all the staff, hope to see you again sometime.
The room looked like in the 80's early 90's but it was clean and well taken care of.
Suitable for short business trips or shopping trips. Worth the money. Will definitely book a room there for our next shopping trip.
