It is somewhat small as are the rooms. My room only had a shower and no bath (I prefer to have both). The breakfasts are limited in range.
The location is not too bad being close to the outer Alster and a bus stop within a few minutes walk.
It is a art nouveau style building which is quite nice and a bit different to the modern, could be anywhere, type of hotel.
Overall a little too small and basic for my tastes but I'm sure those who like this type of accommodation would be quite happy here.
We booked via e-long,and there was revew from this site which were not real revew but mor "orderd revew".
Advise: do not book this hotel!!!
The staff speak english, one member of staff spoke particularly good english. They were always helpful and efficient. I don't generally stay in chain hotels- I like places like this because they have character and other guests/staff have time to chat with you about their life and adventures and so I don't miss the trappings of the bigger hotel chains. The room was quiet and comfortable, the staff were friendly and wanted you to enjoy your stay in their city and the breakfast was nice (including boiled eggs) and I found everything that I needed. WIFI is available for a modest charge.
The hotel is in a quiet residential area north east of the city centre. It's conveniently located for local train and bus services, and is around 1-1.5 km from the centre.
The building appears to be turn of the 20th century built, with rooms varying in size. However, the hotel is well kept, tidy and clean. Our room was a large basement room, with views to the rear of the property. It was large enough to hold a king-size bed, sofa, coffee table and an ante-room with a desk. The bathroom looked new as well.
Breakfast was excellent with lots of choice from the buffet as you would expect from a German hotel - bread, rolls, cereal, cheeses, hams, and your choice of teas and coffees. They also offer gluten free!
Staff were all very pleasant and helpful.
My only negative comments would be a lack of tea/coffee facilities in the room. Considering they call it a slice of England in Hamburg, pretty much all hotels at this price offer tea/coffee facilities in England. They may have offered tea/coffee for free in lieu of this, but I wasn't aware if they did. Hopefully, the owners can clarify.
My only other comment would be that you'd need to be careful when booking a room as to the size. We saw a single room being made-up which was very limited in space. However, I'm sure the owners will help you choose a good room for you.
To summarise, a great place to stay and would recommend to anyone wanting a quiet location and doesn't mind a short walk to the city centre.
You can also buy coffee or tea and cake during the day. No tea or coffee making facilities are provided in the room and this would lift the Miramar from excellent to superb. Also perhaps some additional small toiletries in the bathroom would be an extra touch.
