We have just stayed at Crowne Plaza for two nights during a short stay to Hamburg and cannot fault it.
The room was lovely with a large bathroom, excellent shower and quality toiletries. Breakfast was busy but very well organised by the excellent staff and the food and drink was varied and of really high quality.
For us the location was a real bonus. Just minutes away from the Alster lake which is absolutely lovely to walk around and makes for a really nice walk into the city centre. Also, right on the water and just a very short walk away is a beautiful bar / restaurant - Spanische Treppe. We were lucky to have two warm evenings and to enjoy dinner and drinks here right on the water.
We hope to visit Hamburg again one day and will definitely stay at Crowne Plaza again.

As a meeting planner, it is very rare that I actually get to be in a meeting during my travels. I visited this property in November of 2019 with a MICE Forum and had a truly delightful stay. The newly remodeled hotel is modern and trendy with spacious rooms and a great lobby atrium. I ate breakfast, lunch and dinner and was very satisfied with the creativity and healthy options provided at every meal. Being pregnant meant that the service staff was beyond kind to me and I never once had to get a beverage during the buffet meal. They were so kind. My room was a bit small, but the large bathroom made up for it as I could unpack all of my belongings and spread out. I love the tile in the lobby bar and the meeting spaces were comfortable and creative. Check out my photos on Instagram @eventsbyJuls and find a link to my blog for more about this property!

Dear EventsbyJuls, thank you so much for taking the time to leave a review. We are so pleased that you got the chance to experience our hotel as a meeting participant rather than planner! It's great to hear you liked our new modern design and healthy menu options and that you were well looked after by out staff. We hope to see you again in Hamburg soon! Kind regards, Hannes Dreher, General Manager

We stayed at Crowne Plaza Hamburg for 3 nights for a weekend break. The hotel was recently furbished and it was a pleasant place to stay at. The rooms were very clean and nicely maintained. In terms of location, while not being at the center of the city, it is quite easy to reach either with the numerous buses or a 15 minute walk. The main down side of the hotel was that it felt like there is a staff shortage at times especially at the bar and sometimes at the reception. Overall, we had a pleasant stay and we would consider to stay at this property again.
Some details on the particulars:
Welcome: While there was a wait for checking-in, we were welcomed with a smile and our IHG hotel status was recognized (not sure if I was offered a room upgrade but we were happy with the large room provided).
Meals: While the regular dining menus are reasonably priced, we found the breakfast extremely expensive for 24 Euros per person per day. We opted to have breakfast elsewhere due to the high cost.
Bar: While the atmosphere of the bar is great, the bar staff are struggling with the demand and you have to wait for at least 30 minutes for a beer to be served. On our first night, when we tried to use the welcome drink voucher, we waited for 30 minutes for a beer and we left the bar when we didn't get served. We couldn't find anyone at the bar at 4 p.m. on Sunday. Overall, this was the worst part of the hotel.
Location: The hotel is not super central. But the location and the area that it is located is quite nice. We enjoyed a walk by the Alster lake and walking the city only took about 15 minutes. If you take the bus, you can get to the hotel in 5-6 minutes.
Rooms: The rooms were very new and they were super clean. We enjoyed the comfort level of the room. Two areas of improvement are: 1. The duvets were really small and folded in an unconventional way on top of the bed like a blanket. 2. The TV was showing only German channels.
Sauna and fitness: We really enjoyed the Sauna but it was awkward that it was only open from 6 to 10 p.m. It was super clean and very enjoyable experience if you visit around these times.

Being a IHG Platinum member, I normally stay at IHG hotels. This is the reason why I selected Crowne Plaza Hamburg. I also got regconized as a frequent IHG guest and got an upgrade to an executive room – which included free minibar use throughout the stay.
My overall stay was good, there a few small to medium nuisances that led me to write this critical review.
1) check-in: Perfect, Kudos to the staff
2) Room: I was in a newly refurbished room, which was much nicer than the room I’ve stayed at a few years ago. The working desk is a bit narrow, requiring to work at the sofa or on the bed.
BUT: there was no information booklet, no notepad or pens, no laundry bags… just the bare bones. All was available upon request though.
3) Breakfast: the selection was quite good and the staff was outstanding! Best I’ve ever experienced in Europe! Thank you!
Overall: I am happy with this hotel, although minimalistic on room amenities, everything that one expects from a Crowne Plaza was provided, most after requesting.
Note: there is no longer an executive lounge, the free minibar is offered in lieu, which is fine. Although, the lounge is often a good place to meet other guest and make new contacts.

Dear poboxearth, thank you so much for taking your time to leave a review regarding your recent stay with us here in Hamburg. We are so glad that you were happy with the hotel on the whole and were particularly impressed by your check-in experience and our breakfast buffet. We are sorry to hear that you found the room amenities to be minimalistic, however we are pleased that we were able to provide you with everything you needed after being requested. As an alternative to the club lounge, we now offer our executive package, which along with the free minibar entitles you to a complimentary range of drinks and small dishes from "The Plaza" throughout the day. We hope you had a pleasant journey home and we would be delighted if you were to stay with us again on a future trip to Hamburg. Kind regards, Hannes Dreher, General Manager

First impression after admission to the hotel:
Very functional, cool, uncomfortable.
On the left a kind of vending machine supermarket, straight ahead an uncomfortable bar, on the right some internet workstations for guests – wrong! Employees stand at three standing desks for an objectively cool reception.
That the guest feels comfortable and welcome upon admission to the hotel is not the intention of this hotel chain.
This also includes a device in the middle of the foyer where you can borrow an umbrella for a fee of two euros. I know 4 star hotels for which this is a matter of course – for free!
Rooms: Standard room large enough with a small sitting area, in front of it a small table.
Opposite the bed and below the TV, there is a narrow board over the whole wall – very good for putting down small things – which bulges somewhere into a ridiculously small desk. So the board gets a little wider. Before that, an uncomfortable wobbly stool.
Writing material (notepad/pen) is not provided.
An empty fridge with room for your own drinks and an electric kettle with tea and coffee utensils are available.
There are also two new bottles of water every day!
The air conditioning unfortunately does not have a temperature setting, you can only set it higher or lower.
Bathroom: relatively small and from the simple installation of the sink not as we are used to from other 4 star hotels, but with plenty of storage space. Pros: Not only is there a small bottle of body lotion on the first day, it is provided in sufficient quantity in a dispenser.
Very clean!
Breakfast: it is advisable to arrive early to avoid standing in line for the reception.
Staff are very dedicated and friendly. Breakfast broadly meets the requirements of a 4 star S hotel.
Of particular note: there is a cooking station for fried and scrambled eggs, there is a waffle iron, there are high-quality branded juices, there is sparkling wine. Unfortunately only Prosecco with screw cap!
The bread/buns are very good, they are delivered by a local bakery.
Cons: The hotel saves the smoked fish plate!
Connection to public transport: rather poor. The nearest metro station with only one line is more than 10 minutes away. Especially for older guests with sticks a long way. We have experienced this better in Hamburg.
Parking in the underground car park: available for a proud 26 euros!
I find it strange when, as a German guest in Germany, you get advance information from the hotel in English. A complaint email went unanswered.......

Stayed here previously. Hotel owner went bankrupt during Covid and new owner undertook full renovation. Hotel good location, quiet but short walk to busy area and near lake for morning walks. All buses go to central station so you're 5 min away. Rooms are small (first room I was assigned was super small corner, no desk area or chair). Staff accommodated a room change request with no fuss . Second room was per photos and comfortable.
During reno they removed 'heavy' furnishings and replaced with light woods and clean lines. Closet space at a min though. Bathroom functional though shower lacks door and you will spray water on the floor.
Internet worked well. Breakfast buffet very good though hotel might consider having hostess NOT escort you to your table (a line quickly builds up to enter the restaurant in the morning). I noted long check-in lines at peak hours at main desk with 2 desk personnel.
Staff is quite friendly, professional and helpful. Overall a SOLID Hamburg choice.

Arrived earlier than checking time however reception were extremely helpful and allocated our room immediately. The receptionist was great he was polite and had excellent customer service skills
Our room was large and fitted with everything needed. It was clean and bright
The hotel was slightly out of centre but easy to walk to
We did not have breakfast as 56 euros for two we felt was expensive especially as we don’t eat that much normally
Had one evening meal in the hotel and fancied hamburgers which weren’t on the menu but they did them for us and they were delicious. Really appreciated how they went out of their way to accommodate guests
Would thoroughly recommend this hotel

We stayed in Room 315 last Sept 25, 2023 in this hotel. Room size was bigger than the Mercure Hotel in Cologne, toilet flush button is again at the back of toilet seat cover just like in Sheraton Offenbach Hotel in Franfurt. Very small shower area/tub which may be dangerous for senior citizens. Poor room acoustics because we could hear footsteps above our room.

Have stayed here several times pre and post refurbishment.
Sadly for me the refurb has not improved the hotel much, besides a more modern look in the new bar area that about it.
The rooms have been refurbished but sadly design over comfort has taken over.
The bedroom furniture is a light wood looking as though it has just been bought from ikea and besides one wardrobe there are no drawers to put anything in.
The entire wall has a light wood shelf which is useless probably just to great some area of space.
The walk-in shower was ok but as usual with these water goes over the floor.
The service in the bar is ok, trying to get taxis is not easy and even when ordered don’t show due to shortage.
I think I will be staying somewhere else next time

- The following rating is purely subjective and takes into account the price-performance ratio for the comfort room booked -
The Hotel Crowne Plaza Hamburg (GPS position completely non-binding: latitude 53.562807° longitude 10.019596°) welcomes guests with a slightly modernist reception area.
Check-in was problem-free.
There was a lobby with plenty of seating.
We were given a well-equipped, large, clean room with a large double bed and a large rooftop balcony terrace.
There was a small folding coffee bar with a Nespresso capsule machine. Equipment:
Two sets of two capsules each of coffee with and without caffeine plus two capsules for tea. Two coffee cups showed signs of wear.
In the entrance area next to the bathroom/toilet there was a large full-length mirror.
Unfortunately, we only found a bathrobe with just one pair of slippers, even though we had booked for two people.
There was also a large, easy-to-use safe with a numeric keypad that even has enough room for a laptop.
Other interior features:
- Small refrigerator,
- Flat screen TV,
- Telephone,
- Padded L-shaped seating area
- Barely audible air conditioning, whose operation/functioning was not clear to us. Somehow the room did not get properly warm.
- Free WiFi with good connectivity.
Breakfast:
No free choice of seats.
In our opinion, there is still room for improvement in terms of quality.

Yes, them have a private parking
Hi
No shuttle to or from airport. We used taxi. You can download mytaxi appThis is a great app.Similar to Uber however Uber pulled out of Hamburg in 2015 due to some regulations in the taxi industry
I was dropped to the hotel and took a taxi to airport (30 Euro) so do not have first hand info. But I did ask about the public transport at the reception. There are frequent trains from airport to Hamburg HBF. The route is called S1 and the station nearest is called Hamburg Landwehr. From there she said there are frequent buses to the hotel. The station is 1.5 km or a 15 minute walk from the hotel. At that distance taxi and bus fares are probably the same, taxi might be even cheaper if you have company. Carry cash in euros, none of the taxis take credit cards.
No, only a Kiosk and a Pizza Restaurant.
