I had an very disappointing start of our stay in the Hotel. Unfriendly check-in by a person who does not speak properly neither German, nor English, lack of substantial amenities in both rooms, no automatic upgrade, no minibar. The staff was trying to help and especially the Navigators did great job. Location is great, rooms are big and well decorated, sleep quality was excellent. Breakfast, however, is a fight to get a place and sit for some minutes. This huge hotel has such a small breakfast restaurant, that enjoying the breakfast is impossible, You just have to take it as it is and go fast away. Check-out was OK

The hotel's location is unbeatable, a minute walk to the Alster lake and several U and S stations around. The hotel staff is very friendly and extremely helpful, happy to recommend things to do and places to visit. The room itself is very nice, albeit nothing fancy. I do have to note that for a 5* hotel, it does feel a bit on the simpler side. we had breakfast at the hotel one morning. Service was on the slow side, with not the most attentive waiters. As for the food offering, while all the immediate suspects were there, there was nothing special, and definitely not worth 28 Euro per person.

We stayed at Hotel Renaissance for one night as a stopover. We have stayed at this Hotel +15 times and we keep returning because of the location in the center of Hamburg and because dogs are allowed.

But it feels like something has changed…
Late night I got a soda from the self-service minibar next to the reception and asked them to put the 2,5€ drink on the room. This wasn’t possible since he couldn’t see my credit card in the system. I told him that the room was payed and booked through my Marriot Membership. I suggested to pay with my iPhone, this was not possible! I asked if he really wanted me to go up to the fifth floor for a credit card instead of just trusting a loyal Marriot Member. Finally, he accepted putting the 2,5€ on the room – never tried anything like this before!

It’s a 5-star hotel and you end up in a room with a defect blinking lamp – I ended up un-plugging it. We did bring a small dog and it’s great that dogs are allowed. You pay a quite expensive fee for the dog, I assume it’s for extra cleaning, but it’s disappointing that you get a room that’s not properly cleaned since dust was
hanging from the ceiling.

Dear What2KnowBe4, Thank you for taking the time to write such a detailed review about our hotel. We really appreciate it and welcome any feedback as this helps us to constantly monitor and improve our service. We really appreciate the positive words about our staff, I will also be happy to pass this on to the teams at the hotel. It is a shame that other aspects of your stay left something to be desired. I have taken your feedback on board and passed it on to the relevant department heads to ensure that this will be handled differently in the future. Thank you again for your time. We hope that you will still keep us in mind for future stays in Hamburg. Kind regards, Dominik Stracar Guest Services Supervisor

First time in Hamburg and I had high expectations of a stay at an international hotel brand that I have used frequently. I had a small double that was adequate for my purposes as I was travelling alone. The room was decorated in a warehouse/industrial theme that was not to my taste but it was clean and well appointed. Unusually it had a window that could be opened for fresh air which was appreciated. Housekeeping was of a good standard, the room was cleaned well daily and amenities replenished. There is a vibrant bar/cafe on the ground floor open until late which is convenient for a drink.

The TV was not a smart TV and with all the channels other than a few news channels being in German, entertainment was via my laptop. The rooms are poorly sound proofed and the sounds of housekeeping staff hoovering in adjacent rooms sounded as though someone was drilling on the walls. The air conditioning did not work very well and even on the lowest setting with the fan on full blast the room still felt stuffy and hot. I find the Marriott beds quite hard and this hotel was no exception with the discomfort increased by a bed that squeaked each time I turned over.

Would I stay here again? Unlikely, there are hotels with better facilities in this amazing city.

We staid here for two nights in the summer 2022. Picked the hotel because of the room options with two queen size beds which was perfect for a weekend trip with two kids (2 and 6). The rooms were spacious with a small additional couch and a nice bathroom. The hotel is super centrally located, very well maintained with the facilities you'd expect from a Marriott hotel. Breakfast is very nice (yet pricey) and the service was exceptional for us - we were able to do an early check-in and late check-out which was very much appreciated. The weather was great too so overall, it was a perfect weekend in a very nice city.

Stayed there three nights earlier this week. Nice central location, clean and spacious room, good food, friendly reception people, but.....

In short, when reserving online, I wrote just one thing in the 'special requests' section, and that was "As quiet a room as possible please." I suppose the best and most truthful possible answer to this would have been, "Sorry, that just won't be possible at the moment because there is loud construction noise all day long, starting at 7 a.m.. We have reserved a room for you at the nearby Marriott instead." That is of course not what happened.

This situation may of course not be entirely the case for every single room. A receptionist told us there were three separate construction projects happening and each affected a different part of the hotel. (None are in the hotel itself.) We had room 524, which is next to a fire escape stairway. I suspect the construction in question was below the bottom of the stairway as the noise seemed to come mainly from there. On Monday morning the jackhammers started at 8 a.m., On Tuesday they started at 7:30 and on Wednesday at 7 a.m.

Yesterday (Wednesday), we came back in the middle of the day, hoping for a short nap as the workers took their lunch break, which they did at 12:15. No luck. The hotel ran a pre-announced test of the fire alarm on our floor at 12:35. It rang 8 times. The construction work restarted just after 1 p.m. I measured it at a constant 50 dB using an app on my phone.

I feel quite strongly that the rooms in the areas most affected by the construction noise should not be on sale at all. If not, there should be a warning on the website that it will be noisy, advising prospective guests that they should really choose somewhere else for the time being. Yes, I realize that would be a tough decision, but you are putting your reputation on the line at the moment, and the current message seems to be that you don't care.

Dear 854mauricef, Thank you for taking the time giving us feedback on your stay. First of all, we are very pleased that you were satisfied with the room, the food and our staff. However, we are very sorry that your expectations were not met to your full satisfaction and that you did not receive prior information about the construction site. As this is an external construction site of the city of Hamburg, we are unfortunately mostly not informed in advance about the beginning as well as the times of the construction site and cannot inform our guests in time. Of course, we would otherwise try to communicate this to you in some other way. Of course, this is not our standard and we will forward your feedback to the Executive Hotel Team so that appropriate arrangements can be made in the future. Nevertheless, we hope to welcome you again in the future. With kind regards Sina Moormann Guest Services Supervisor

This was our first stay at Marriott’s Renaissance Hotel in Hamburg. Turns out, it’s in a great part of town with easy walking distance to most of the museums, piers, etc. The S & U bahns have stops close by, along with the main train station being about a 15-minute walk.

The hotel was nice inside. The front desk staff was very friendly at check-in and throughout our stay. The room was good size and had a good size bathroom and small fridge. The bed was comfortable and the room was very quiet when you closed the windows. The air conditioning worked great as well. Finally, the breakfast (which came with our room) was good, and included your standard European meat & cheese tray, rolls/danishes, eggs to order, fruit and coffee/juice/tea. All of it was delicious and the wait staff friendly.

All in all, we had a great stay at the Renaissance. It’s exactly what you’d expect for Marriott and is ideally located in the city. Highly recommend you try it.

The hotel's location is excellent, being located right in the center and close to all means of transportation. The design of the entire hotel is very modern and nice and had a very warm feeling. The staff was lovely and our experience was definitely topped by the service we received from the breakfast staff, all extremely attentive.
The room we stayed in was beautiful and the housekeeping department always checked with us when they could clean the room, so they would not bother us.
We will definitely come back!

It's a lovely hotel in the center of Hamburg located on the famous shopping street Große Bleichen. There are plenty of excellent restaurants within walking distance. I arrived by car, and there was immediately someone ready to park my car without any extra charge. The Check-In employee was spontaneous, friendly, and very welcoming. Due to my status within the Mariott Bonvoy program, I received a nice upgrade to a larger room. The room was clean, nicely maintained, and very spacious. Nice big bathroom, just a pity there was no separate shower. The bed was lovely, very comfortable. The bar on the first floor is cozy, with plenty of seating and friendly staff—the perfect place to start your evening. Breakfast is well taken care of, and tasteful only the area where the budget is is a bit crabby. Overall I am a fan of this hotel and have already booked my next stay.

This was my second stay at this wonderful hotel in Hamburg. I have stayed some years ago at the hotel, loved it , so this summer I decided to spend a full week there, in order to explore Hamburg and the lovely hanseatic cities that are not far away, like Bremen and Lubeck. It was an excellent choice, as my week was splendid. Due to my Marriott Bonvoy membership, I was upgraded towards a very nice and spacious Superior Room, on the 6th floor. The room itself was indeed large, bright and very comfortable. There was an armchair, a sofa and a separate desk. The decoration of the room was very nice and inspired, with Hamburg themes, soft materials, wood, just loved it (in fact, this is the reason that I have choosen the Renaissance and not the Marriott that is close ; this hotel has certainly more personality than the classic M.). Bathroom was large and well equipped, with quality toiletteries. I very much enjoyed the full breakfast every morning (early in the morning, when all was calmer). A great selection of food and beverages, fresh fruits, good coffee at the Bricks restaurant. I recommend the Eggs Benedict, they are simply delicious. Very nice moments in the evening, at the hotel bar, some days there is live music and the cocktails are amazing. All the hotel and restaurant personnel were supremely nice and attentive, so I appreciated this every day. I would like to express my warm thanks to Ms. Alina D., at the Front Office, who contributed to my wonderful stay. I will certainly be back! [ Concerning the recent remarks of other guest, I have noticed too some construction works nearby but, during my entire stay, I was not at all disturbed by any noise. I slept very well, nights and some naps in the afternoon. This was also due to the quality of the bed, of course ]
