Ruby Lotti with 290 rooms lies directly at Stadthausbrücke in the heart of Hamburg. Located right next to some of Hamburg’s most prestigious 5-star-hotels and restaurant and bar hotspots, the hotel is only a couple of minutes away from Jungfernstieg as well as the city’s town hall and other main attractions. Most rooms are facing the Fleet and offer a wide view over the waterways. Based on the story of the building, a former publishing house, as well as the neighbouring press district, Ruby Lotti’s theme is dedicated to report journalism in the 60s and 70s.

Good hotel with a good location.
Unfortunately the bread in the breakfast box was not good and definately not worth the price.
The toilet is only seperatet with a glas wall with frosted glass. You could se and hear nearly everything what was going on in there. The handwash was situated in the hotel room outside the toilet. I don't think it will be a place for young newly in love couples :-(

I've stayed in Hamburg many times but wanted to experience something different, so decided to book this hotel. The rooms are unique but very well laid out to maximize space. I loved everything about the room (except for the rock hard pillows) and the hotel. It is also located within steps of the S-Bahn (the S1 is only 2 stops from the Haupbahnhof (Main Train Station) and only 30 minutes direct to the airport. The area is also within steps of the main shopping district yet only a few minutes walk to the harbour/river. With everything within walking distance, there was no need for using transit. The hotel also has a really neat "vibe" and the staff are all fluent in English and very helpful.
The rooms are very comfortable except for the rock hard pillows (I purchased an airline pillow after the first night). While the breakfast is adequate, the bread selection was very limited and portions extremely small (bread rolls). These were the only minor issues I found otherwise I enjoyed my stay.

I've stayed in several different hotels in Hamburg on business but this was my first trip as a tourist and I have to say this is now my favourite hotel in Hamburg. It is very close to the S-bahn so moving around is easy, and the main shopping street for wealthy people (Alter Wall). Check in was much easier than I'd expected from reading other reviews and the bar staff were super helpful and friendly, although I did notice a crush when there were quite a few guests who arrived at the same time (just like any other check in). The room was modern and overlooked the canal. The bed was VERY comfortable with plenty of pillow options. I guess the only aspect of the room which could put some people off was the glass walled shower and a separate, semi-frosted glass toilet, although both these had modesty curtains in case you are shy or dont know the person you ae staying with very well (in a double bed!!). My wife and I didn't eat in the hotel because it was Christmas market time and we had loads of German sausage but we did drink there a couple of nights and really enjoyed ourselves. The only (minor) gripe would be that the direction to the rooms from the bar area could be improved. However, we both loved the quirky sayings everywhere and the fact that the hotel has a very different decor to anywhere else we've stayed. We will definitely seek to stay here again when I return to Hamburg.

My second visit to this lovely hotel in the centre of Hamburg. Perfect location near shops and restaurants. I stayed in January with my daughter for 5 nights she was starting her internship in the city. Our room on the second floor was small but very comfortable, this time my partner and I got a really nice room on the 4th floor, I feel we got an upgrade, it was larger than the last time and I loved the heated toilet seat, nice and bright overlooking the canal, we had no problem checking in a really helpful lady called Florentine assisted us and was there each morning managing the breakfasts and was always cheerful and professional. Thanks Florentine 👍
The breakfasts at The Ruby Lotti are delicious the food is fresh, mostly organic and very satisfying. Try the Danish pastries with cinnamon and honey. 😋superb! Also there is a snack menu and we had the pizza with mozzarella salami and rocket see 1st picture below, tasty and reasonably priced.
The bar is nice in the evenings for a cocktail or a nice quiet drink. All staff are very friendly and will make you feel at home.

I don't understand all the good reviews I've read.
1. I've arrived late around 22.45 and the bar/reception (yes that's the one place and it's more the bar than the reception), and no one explain to me the self-check-in thing, and the automatic machine give you ONE room key (but you need it for electricity in the room and using the elevator), and them no one tells you where to go, cause they are too busy making cocktails for the bar clients.
I truly don't understand who came up with the idea of having the receptionist = bartender.
2. Room is ok, I got non canal view, but windows are high an the room have a lot of light. BUT it's empty, all the general stuff you usually have in the hotel, here you don't have. So you understand, there is no phone to call the reception, there is not even the “do not disturb” card and no water. Speaking of that. To get water you'll need to go all the way downstairs to the bar, wait in the queue with people waiting for their bar drinks and then pay €7.15 for a bottle (750ml) of still water.
3. Breakfast - I would not call it breakfast, they don't even have scrambled eggs or the option for egg dishes, there is a little buffet, with bread, boiled eggs, yoghurt and ham and cheese. And it's 100% self service, to the level, that you will need to find yourself a tray, a table, and wait in the queue for the coffee. I got COLD cappuccino. I've never even imagined this is possible.
4. Location is nice, but everytime you come back to the hotel, you need to go through the bar, which is not very comfortable after a long day, when you are tired.
5. No one cares, it doesn't seems like receptionists/bartenders cares about you. I would not blame them for this, cause its hard to do a good job, when you have 2 of them at the same time.
In general, I would not recommend this hotel, cause you can find the better option for the same price.

Hi Daria A, Thank you for taking the time to rate your stay with us. In line with our Lean Luxury philosophy, we are streamlining processes, which is why our bar is also the place to check-in/out. Our self-check-in should not be taken as insufficient service. However, if you have any questions or problems, our hosts are always there for you and will be happy to help you. In addition to this, that’s also why we don't offer a phone or a mini bar in the room, but instead a 24/7 bar with a great variety of delicious drinks. Furthermore you will also find our Galley on each of our floors, where you can take water or prepare your own fresh tea. That our breakfast selection was insufficient for you is a pity to hear. Following our concept, we offer our guests only high-quality, regional products. This means that we focus on quality rather than quantity. Hot dishes don't really fit with that, since they quickly lose their quality sitting on the buffet. We're always trying to make our guests feel welcome and give them the feeling of having arrived, why we do our best every day. We're sorry you got a different impression. That really shouldn't happen. We'll forward your feedback to our team and try even harder to further improve the quality of our service in the future. We would be happy if you gave us a second chance and we could welcome you in one of our ruby hotels again soon. Your Ruby Lotti Team

We made a booking for our family of four, two adults and two teens in two rooms.
In my reservation I have asked for two rooms adjoining or next door. Hotel reservations answered, they can not promise but do their best.
What we got was miles away from that, we got one room on 2nd floor and the second on the 4th floor, each room in a different corner, hundreds of meters apart. The rooms were No. 216 and 448. Couldn’t have been more apart from each other.
If this was their best I do not want to know what is their worst. Frankly this was very dissatisfying and nobody cared, nobody offered any solution.
On top of that when checking in we got one key-card per room, that means if one person leaves the room, the other stays in darkness because you need the key card for the elevator.

This hotel is form over function. From the awkward access down to the bar to check in,
to the Vegas (think Aria) 1/8 mile corridors from the elevator if you have room 2039.
The room design allows a nice view of the toilet from the bed and a sink in room vs separate bathroom.
IF you are there for business, good luck, there literally is not enough room to balance a laptop on the
Over designed “desk’ placed directly under a screen. If I had my wife here there is nowhere to put on make up
Without standing in front of the circus mirror over the sink.
The bed side tables allow half a book. No water in room, no facilities.
I asked ‘reception’ which doubles a bar or vice versa to please provide face cloth so I could shave without soaking the floor. Never turned up.
The bed had two separate duvets which was odd and not as comfortable as one large one if you turn in the night
The breakfast was in the bar area on very low seats or tables and all about looking cool. When I was there
Awful rap or hip hop was playing.
Basically this hotel reminds me of all the Brooklyn experiments to create boutique hip hotels.
My issue is that, boring though my Munich Hilton may seem, and Hamburg I’m sure is the same. It works.
You can work, sit at tables, have lots of space. Very efficient wifi etc.
So I’m old school. You may not be.
The Ruby Lotte hotel I hated, and I’ll leave it to the cool crowd. Hope my pictures as evidence help.

Hey Sunshine, Thank you for your feedback. As part of our Lean Luxury philosophy, we do things differently from other hotels. For example, our rooms are carefully designed to make the best use of space, and we put a lot of emphasis on the quality of the materials we use. Our bar area has an eclectic range of vintage chairs and tables to offer a cosy nook for everyone at any time of day. We do have standard tables and chairs for those who prefer to sit at a higher level, so just keep an eye out during busy periods. You're also welcome to use our library or bar area if you need more workspace. We're sorry to hear that you didn't fully enjoy your stay, especially since the things you mentioned are important to us. We aim to offer our guests a location with character and soul, a place where they feel right at home. Rest assured, we'll share your review with the appropriate team members and we hope you'll give us another chance in the future. Your Ruby Lotti Team

I really wanted to love this hotel, but in the end I didn't.
The self service checkin procedure sucks especially for business travellers - I had booked three rooms through a portal and ended up spending the first 20 mins with not too helpful staff annoyed trying to find my reservations in a process, where I had to manually enter a reservation number, that the staff was reading out to me, that was never sent to me... I generally like optional self service in the service industry but this was ridiculous.
The rooms (best type) were nice, but on the non-canal-side, you end up with the curtains closed all the time. The general design in the hotel is quite amiable as well.
The breakfast was great, simple but nice quality.
It is on the edge of the center, but most places are easily within walking distance.

This was my 3rd visit to this hotel and really enjoy the "vibe" at this hotel. It is located on the canal and is easily reached by S-Bahn from both the Airport and Hauptbahnhof (Stadthausbrücke is the stop).
The rooms are small but very nicely laid out and spotlessly clean. The lobby or bar area gives the feel of a living room with areas to meet, work and/or have a drink. It also serves as the breakfast area.
I would give this hotel a 5 Star review if not for two items. The pillows are the hardest I have ever experienced and I had to go out and purchase one of my own as I woke up with a stiff neck after the first night. I asked at the desk if they had any "softer" pillows available and it was obvious that they didn't by the reaction. However I noticed in the survey they send after the visit that you are given the opportunity to rate the pillows as one of many items.
The other issue are the doors that slam. They are all very heavy and are spring loaded so that they slam when they close. If you are trying to rest during the day (due to jet lag) or working in your room, it is very distracting particularly when the staff are cleaning the rooms as there are several bangs every few minutes. And it echoes down the hallways. I am not certain that they couldn't reduce the tension but these were the loudest doors that I have experienced at any hote.

The set-up is fun and worlds away from traditional hotels, rooms are ok with comfy beds and ok showers, better for single use as the there is only glass diving toilets from sleeping area. Overall it is fine for business trips and when you do not want to spend too much time in a hotel. It is a combination of hostel hotel as you have shared kitchen facility on each floor where you can do your ironing as well. There is no restaurant attached to the hotel and it is easy to walk to dining.
