Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The staff is incredibly friendly and the rooms are as clean as in good hotels. Their breakfast buffet doesn‘t have a big variety, yet the things that are served are tasty.

Some of the pricing has changed.
The buffet costs 7€ instead of 5€ and a coffee costs 1€ instead of being free. It isn‘t that dramatic, but interesting to know.

Clean, smooth, excellent experience! The building is beautiful, and the surrounding neighborhood is so much fun and easy to navigate. I stayed in a private room and it was large, sunny, and clean with a good shower with hot water. The wifi is fast and the courtyard/porch area is very cute. I didn't eat the breakfast but it looked good. Check in and check out was easy, and the free luggage storage was a plus. As a solo female traveler I never once felt unsafe, which is the number one most important thing.

The only way this was differentiated from a hotel stay was the mattress, but it is a hostel after all, so I wasn't expecting luxury. Far exceeded my expectations and I will absolutely return.

Tip - Google maps took me the long way around but you can go up the stairs right by the Senefelderplatz U-bahn station.

The hostel was super clean, cheap, good breakfast, soap in the bathroom, well located. The waitress was quite unfriendly and there was a dark-haired girl at the reception who was stubborn and wouldn't let you talk. How little skill Germans have in customer service. If it hadn't been for these two people, perfect.

Stayed in a room for 4 people with their own bathtub. The room was clean and light enough. There aren't many people. The beds are comfortable. Having lockers was a big advantage. The Internet worked well. While everyone was sleeping in the room, you could go downstairs and play pool. I've come across some very nice neighbors.

Slept in a 6-bed dorm with my son (11) and daughter (17). Room rather small but was fine for 2 nights. Quiet enough (thanks to my mates), away from the street, nice view into the gardens. Superb breakfast for vegetarians and vegans with a lot of homemade bread spreads, dips and mueslis. Fresh fruits, bit of fresh veggies.
Location super. Atmosphere in the hostel super friendly and humurous. Will definitely return.

I stayed 3 nights at the Pfefferbett Hostel in Berlin in December 2021. Check-in and check-out were smooth and the staff friendly. My dormitory was spotless with a locker to store my belongings. The lobby is great to meet people and play pool. They also have a bar with a good selection of drinks. I also appreciated the fireplace after a long day in the cold! Overall, superb value, I would definitely come back again!

There were 9 of us and we stayed for one night.
The hostel and rooms were clean and tidy, reception was friendly, helpful and open 24/7. Breakfast was extensive and good. Free WiFi and room cards that work for the lockers.

Nice clean hostel in an ideal location but this review is dedicated to the Pfefferbett staff member Lisa. Her kindness and generosity made my trip. All staff are so welcoming but Lisa went the extra mile. Thank you. Will be recommending this hostel to fellow travellers.

One receptionist woman is very rude, we couldn't believe she is receptionist in hostel. We were so disappointed and angry.

Before check in, we didn't know where is entrance. Because the hostel looks like BAR or CAFE from outside, and the hostel bear character seems to point different door, and the door is closed. So we used buzzer twice(because no one come outside only once buzzer), and then we finally noticed the receptionist woman is looking us, and she did a gesture to come inside. After we go inside, she said to us "Hostel door is open!! Why did you ring the bell many times!!" It may our problem and mistake, but we were first time to stay in this hostel. After her comment, we are still ok and start check in.

We booked here via "Agoda". We said "we booked via Agoda". She said "Hostel price has changed recently, and we may overcharge to you, so please let me check your voucher". We showed her the voucher which was paid already all amount. We ask the price now, and it was cheaper than our total amount, so we expected refund. But surprisingly she said "You haven't all amount, you need to pay **€ more. We tried explaining many times but nothing changed, she continue asking payment. She was angry and us as well. Later she happeningly noticed that we booked via Agoda, not booking.com or Hostel World etc.(Despite we said at first and show her voucher many times!) And she said "If you booked via Agoda, everygthing no problem" She never said sorry to us her rudeness and mistake.

Next day, when we check out, another receptionist asked us to send voucher to hostel because she asked him to do it despite she said "it's all finished about this". She should have told us directly when she is in hostel, not asking another person.

That receptionist is polite and respectful and he tried to understand our feelings and apporogised about her correspondence. He tried to give us Bag with hostel logo, but we don't wanna that bag with hostel name which made us angry. He also tried to give us free coffee, but we couldn't drink coffee with that feelings.

He said "Not so many people use Agoda to book our hostel" "Everytime there are troubles about Agoda." If that's true, we think why don't you stop using Agoda?

Response from C R, Manager at Pfefferbett Hostel Berlin
Responded 24 Apr 2014
Dear Lovetrip77, Thank you very much for your constructive criticism. Let us express our sincere apologies for what you had to experience at Pfefferbett hostel. Your comment about the behavior of our front office staff was put to the attention of the according manager. Please be assured that we will put all our effort in improving our staff to avoid these kind of shortcomings as it is our primary concern to make our guests feel welcome and appreciated. Besides that we honestly regret that dealing with reservations made via Agoda was obviously not sufficiently trained. We would like to thank you for making us aware of the difficulties you experienced. We understand how inconvenient this may have been to you and therefore we hope to be able to welcome you back to our hostel in order to prove our services to you. Sincerely, Your Pfefferbett Team

Hi Melissa! I booked all the tours before I left Spain (because I travelled alone), so I don’t know if they can be booked there. Btw, there are a lot of free tours in Berlin, you don’t need to spend money in booking any kind of activities, Keep it in mind. Hope it helps!
