Welcome to Munich's oldest hotel! The 4-star Hotel Torbräu welcomed its first guests in 1490, a fact which can be traced in official documents from the time. Today our guests can expect a modern, family-run establishment that offers an excellent setting: situated directly by the historic Isartor, right by the entrance to the Old Town and just a short walk away from Marienplatz.

We loved this hotel. The location is absolutely perfect as it is a short walk to Marienplatz, the sights, and the S-bahn. The hotel was quiet and clean and the breakfast was very good. The staff was helpful and would recommend restaurants and things to do. They went above and beyond patiently explaining directions and answering questions for us. I look forward to staying here again the next time we are in Munich.

All staff are phenomenal here and willing to assist in any way. Front desk staff have gone above and beyond in assisting with finding locations for covid-19 testing prior to the next leg of our journey. Hall lights are motion detectors saving on electricity. Our room has a/c. The shower is tight, especially for tall people. The location is great for all the shops, Glockenspiel, markets, and trains. Masks are required and hand sanitizer is readily available on every floor (taking elevator or stairs). Torbrau is the oldest hotel in Munich and we love the creak of the stairs. Very clean and highly recommend.

This hotel is wonderfully located in easy walking distance to many historic parts of the city of interest to tourists. In addition it is just a few steps away from the excellent subway system. All personnel that I engaged with from the front desk to the housekeeping staff were helpful and pleasant and genuinely seemed invested in providing you with the best service possible. The included breakfast buffet was excellent and there were nibbles offered late in the afternoon. I also liked that they are proud of their history and embrace it. However this came at a high price tag during Oktoberfest

Stayed here for 5 nights. The location is only a few minutes walk from Marienplatz, the pedestrian area and many bars and restaurants. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. The rooms were very clean and you could see guests were spaced between rooms in current climate. Would definitely recommend

Perfectly located in the Old Town next to the “Tor” or city gates, this well appointed hotel is an excellent choice for visiting Munich. We were warmly and graciously greeted on our day of arrival. I had notified the hotel that we would be arriving before noon from the US and we were delighted to find our executive suite available on arrival.
Room 201 was alongside a small courtyard. Upon entering the room, there was a living area with sofa, coffee table, work desk, and closet. A convenience area had glassware, Krupa coffee maker, fridge stocked with soft drinks, beer and water (included in the price), a small TV, and ample lighting. The large window afforded a view of the courtyard and could be opened if needed.
The bedroom featured a double bed (European style which translates to two twins together), a work area, safe, double closet, bench seating, good reading lights, and ample space.
The bathroom had a large shower, toilet, double sinks, and attractive step in tub. Again, the large frosted window opened if needed.
We found the room to be excellent for comfort and amenities. It was amazingly quiet.
The hotel is within an easy (less than 10 minute) walking distance for the Hofbrauhous for Octoberfest and also the Marienplatz for Christmas markets.
Highly recommend!

Hotel Tornraeu is an excellent hotel overall. It is a very good location on the S2 line for convenient access to the airport and central station (no transfers need) and it is also located just within the old city center. It is an old hotel, so there is everything that goes with that (I see some people with complaints about the lift - they are justified if the lift is important to you).

For the size of the room, the amenities within the hotel and it’s location, it is great value in a charming hotel.

Excellent center location. Five minute walk to Merion Square and 15 minute walk to Deutsches museum. This boutique hotel has modern rooms that are well equipped including free soft drinks in the bar refrigerator the rooms are not large but not tiny like you would find in Paris or London. The staff was very accommodating and answered many questions that we had regarding our stay we had it included breakfast buffet that was of excellent quality.
The beds were very comfortable, however I found the pillows lacking in quality. One point of caution, to get to the elevator requires seven steps as well as when you get off on your floor you might encounter several more steps. Although this was absolutely no problem for us, you may want to have the staff deliver your luggage to your room if you have a large suitcase.
My wife and I are definitely going to return to this hotel and would highly recommend it to anyone that is visiting Munich

My partner and I recently stayed at the Torbraeu Hotel, the intention was to stay for 2 nights, however due to a strike at Munich airport our stay was extended to 5 nights. This could have been a problem, however because the hotel and its staff were so wonderful the extended stay turned out to be a blessing. The hotel itself is in what could be described as the best location in Munich, a short straight walk to Marienplatz and right beside the Isator underground where you can get the S8 directly to the airport. The hotel was very clean and the beds very comfortable, the only downside was the coffee in the rooms was a little strong for our tastes. There was a free minibar with some chocolates, soft drinks and beer, a nice little touch was the little pack of Haribo sweets on the pillow each day. The continental breakfast was tasty and plentiful. However the best were the staff, starting with Maggie (Meisechild) apologies I’m sure I’ve spelt it incorrectly! What a lovely lady, she was friendly and welcoming and her English is perfect (really puts us to shame) . Knowing we were out for the day Maggie went to the trouble of phoning us when she discovered that our flight would be cancelled, such a thoughtful thing to do, she helped arrange our extra nights in the hotel giving us the best available rate. She did other thoughtful things, like sharing her chocolates with us when we were waiting in the lounge to go to the airport. It is unbelievable that Maggie had only been working in the hotel industry for 5 weeks! She is a credit to the hotel. I would also like to mention the lovely bar staff, Isobel and Macee who served our drinks with a smile and a friendly chat. Not forgetting the dining room staff Imelda and the other ladies (sorry I don’t know their names). Munich is a fabulous city, the Torbraeu and its staff are fantastic, we hope to return soon. Thank you to everyone who made our stay so special. Richard and Pearl Lee

We are currently staying at this hotel. First the positives: The Hotel is in a fantastic location for visiting central Munich and the very lively nightlife the city offers. It offers a good breakfast at which the service is impeccable. On arrival we were upgraded from a small to a standard double room. The bathroom had a good shower and the room was clean.
However, one of the main reasons we chose this hotel was that Booking.com advertise it as having “a restaurant offering fine cuisine made with regional products” and also states that meals at this hotel were highly recommended. A further comment reported that guests were able to relax in the hotel bar.
Sadly, on arrival ( after a very long day travelling), we asked to book a table in the restaurant for that evening, only to be informed that the restaurant was not open for meals, only small snacks. The restaurant and bar were both in darkness with no staff and no tables laid so it would be fairer to say both were closed and had not been open for some time. We were forced to go out and find a restaurant at very short notice for our evening meal. The staff were apologetic about the situation, but it was clear that this was not a new situation.
The next morning we noticed that the electronic advert in the hotel lift was advertising a cocktail happy hour in the hotel bar between 6-8pm, so we organised our evening around starting with drinks in the hotel bar. When we went to the bar at 6:30 it was in darkness and when we asked at reception we were told that the bar was not open this week…..So why are they still advertising it in their own premises???
This was very disappointing as at weekends the area is extremely busy and getting into any bar in the evening for a relaxed drink is impossible.
When we returned to the hotel later in the evening ( approx 10pm) we were told that we couldn’t even get a simple hot drink, other than the limited nespresso machine in the room.
So basically this is a hotel proclaiming itself to be 4 star standard, but which has no restaurant, no bar and no room service! This would be a 2 star standard or even just a bed and breakfast everywhere else in the world and the dishonest misrepresentation has really spoiled our long weekend holiday. We would definitely not have booked this hotel had we known the real situation.

We were very disappointed with the accommodations at this hotel. I was willing to give a lot of weight to the history here, but it doesn’t honor that aspect at all. Instead it just looks very rundown and shabby. The rooms are small and dirty, shag carpet, scuffs and marks all over and the decor is dated to say the least, but not historical unless 1875 I considered history. We booked a deluxe room through an agency so I’m not sure what the rate was, but the room booked off the street would have been over 350 euros. Astounding! We were booked 5 nights and left for a more suitable place, not knowing if anything will be refunded.

There is a parking lot at the hotel for hotel guests which we used for our rental car. Be sure to ask when making the booking for car parking as it is limited but is very convient as street parking is hard to find in Munich.
