My husband and I stayed at the Clausings (or Atlas) Posthotel for 2 nights during the last week of September 2006. I had contacted the hotel directly and made reservations via email which couldn't have been easier. I asked for and received a room with a fantastic view of the mountains - it was beautiful! And the price was extremely reasonable for the large size of the room- we were very comfortable. Our room was very clean and the best things were the little bags of gummi sheep on our pillows- a very cute touch. The hotel was in a nice location amidst all of the shops and many restaurants. One night they even opened up their bar for us. It was a really nice, huge room with big comfy chairs and couches.

There were only a few drawbacks. The shower arm in our bathtub was broken so it made showering a little of a challenge. There was minimal parking at hotel (4-5 spaces in front). This didn't bother me too much as I just parallel parked around the corner but I can see that if someone isn't comfortable parking or if it's a busy weekend, it may be harder to deal with the parking situation. The last thing is that the elevator only went to the second floor which meant we had to lug our bags up the final flight of stairs.

Overall this was a great place to stay. We would definitely stay there again and highly recommend it.

We booked this hotel months in advance primarily due to its central location and as one of our party of seven has a respitory illness and cannot walk too far. The hotel itself is typical of many of the buildings in Garmisch, very pretty and 'alpine' looking, so from the outside it looks charming and inviting. The inside follows the same theme. There is a lift to the floors if you need it.
We booked a double room, a single room and an apartment for four people. The double room was on the first floor and the single was on the second floor in the main building. The apartment was down the side of the hotel and across the road, about a couple of minutes walk. One of the others in my party will be reviewing the apartment.

When you check in you are each given a complimentary public transport pass enabling you to travel on the buses free of charge, which is a good money saver and a great way to explore the surrounding area. The bus stops outside the hotel across the road.

The double room was a good size and had a king size comfortable bed, plenty of storage space and a modern bathroom with a good shower. The room also had a separate lounge area which had the original wide wooden floor boards and beams in the roof plus a lovely stain glass window that opened. There was a huge comfortable sofa, a coffee table and TV. Would have been nice to have an English channel on the TV, but not a problem. A great space to relax.
The breakfast; first of all let me say that the hotel was not that busy at all and as a consequence it might have been that they scaled the breakfast down accordingly, but although it was quite acceptable and adequate, it was average at best. From what I had read on previous reviews, I was expecting a little better than it actually was, but as I've already said, it was okay and I'm not complaining.
Not all the rooms have tea/coffee making facilities and ours didn't. However, I asked for a kettle at reception and was given one.
The reception staff are very helpful and speak English and we were particularly grateful for the information and advice that was given to us about the cheaper version of the Bayern Ticket when we were leaving.

A good solid hotel which is clean, comfortable and in an ideal central location. We very much enjoyed our stay.

Good news first -- breakfast was outstanding. Ambiance too. BUT -- do not plan to stay in their apartment-type units a couple blocks walk from the main hotel. Those rooms were cold -- NO heat until we walked back to the lobby and made a special request. Parking was atrocious . . . . the new kid on the desk showed us where to park (it was raining) and we promptly got a parking ticket. The night desk gal was totally uncooperative, even when we told her they had showed us where to park. Next morning a very sweet manager (she was the blond) refunded us money to pay the fine.

We have been here several times during the last five years and it has really deteriorated. They have built a fast food kiosk adjacent to the front entrance that destroys the beauty of the traditional Bavarian structure. Can't believe the city council give them a permit to construct such an eyesore. We used to open the window for fresh air, but now the commercial kitchen duct blasts fryer oil and kebab smell straight into the rooms. Rooms have become shabby - the couch had a hole with upholstery stuffing coming out, the carpet was worn and faded, the shower control handle was broken and the window curtains didn't fit, they must have been shrunken or reused from another room. We will not be back.

Old school hotel with old school service. Location is perfect and rooms rather comfortable. Bathrooms are updated but hallways could use facelift. Overall we really enjoyed our stay. Front desk service couldn’t have been better.

Just returned and our stay here was wonderful. Granted the elevator was out, however the parking was fine next to the side of the Hotel. We had a superior room which was quirky, but neat and immaculately clean. The front desk was helpful with us and gave us local directions for the restaurant I wanted to try. In addition, additional information on driving times etc. Directly across form the pedestrian area the location could not be more central. For the money I've always found this Hotel to be a good bargain.

Find another location! The location is great however realize there is loud and drunk people throughout the night and early morning! The walls are thin so the people walking above sounds like elephants moving about! WiFi in the apartments is not working.
Some positives: clean and great location. Historical and quaint.

Thank you for your stay in the Atlas Posthotel and for your rating at TripAdvisor. I just wanted to let you know that I have checked the Wi-Fi in our apartments and it was working without any problems. Maybe you got the password wrong or chose the wrong router to connect with. We wish you a great time and would be pleased to welcome you in the Atlas Posthotel again. Best regards, Serkan Uysal - Front Office Manager

Apart from the wifi that didn't work, towels that were suitable as rags, coupled with the warning (see attached photos), a semi-clean room, tired facilities, the main issue we had was with the manager on duty. We had a few run-ins with him, but the main one was when we asked about the wifi outage (the entire 4 days we stayed), he rudely said that if we could check out if we weren't happy. He could've diffused the situation by offering some kind of small compensation, perhaps a complementary coffee or drink.

Although the location couldn't be better, I recommend finding somewhere else, even if the walk to the center of the town is longer.

I have to say that I've stayed a lot of hotels and I have to say the 'Welcome we have just received is as bad as I've ever received. Possibly the rudest reception person ever.

Then the good bit, we get our keys for the apart hotel annex and walk the 150 metres to the room.

See pictures, room not ready....

We rang the hotel and the same reception person, we suspect he hung up.

We came back over, no apologies just excuses that the maid had not done the room and updated the system, the system however when checked said the room was not ready.

Still not his fault, making up for the mix up by way of a free drink. I have never had this before.v

Nice hotel that obviously needs a personality makeover.

It was our first stay at Atlas Posthotel, and fourth in Garmisch. The staff were very welcoming upon our arrival and the hotel had everything you need for a weeks stay. It is set up in a traditional Bavarian building and is lovely inside

The rooms were a good size and the shower was brilliant!

The steakhouse attached is expensive for Garmisch, we had dinner there on our first night. The italian restaurant also attached is very well priced and very good. I would recommend the italian over the steakhouse.

Breakfast was very good, with a selection of hot and cold food.

Overall really good stay at Atlas Posthotel and I would recommend anyone to stay here. We may be back!
