On arrival we were fortunate enough to be able to use a parking permit to park on the street and hotel parking is also available for a small cost. From the outside the hotel is beautiful, like most of the buildings in this Quarter. We stayed in the "Reblaus" Building, which is part of the hotel complex. On enetring ths building you take a step back in time and upon entering the room we were left open mouthed (in a pleasant way) with how it looked. Although the views out of the windows weren't great the room itself more than made up for this, however....
We opened the door to the small balcony to be greeted by an ashtray full of used cigarettes (the hotel prides itself on being a no smoking hotel and guests are made aware (on signs) that they can only smoke at the front entrance (why do they provide an ashtray on the balcony?).
Once we settled down we realised than the room was in some urgent need of some love and attention with broken tiles in the bathroom, sockets hanging off the walls, handles on the shower not correctly fitted and most of all the sofa is looking really shabby (see photos)
One other negative was the lack of hand sanatizer in Haus Reblaus
Allthough on close inspection the room needs a bit of attention this doesn't outweigh the positives which this hotel has to offer and we will definately spend our next visit to Ulm in this well priced hotel.
The breakfast room has a coffee machine for guests to use during breakfast. I went to use the machine and the staff member in the breakfast room began loudly and aggressively yelling at me, telling me off for “playing” with the machine. She then turned around to address the other guests in the room to speak about my actions as an example of what not to do. This was complete with arm movements to point me out to everyone in the room.
It was really embarrassing. I slunk back to my table with the whole room of people staring at me.
I speak basic German I didn’t understand what she was shouting, since it was all in German. My partner is more fluent than I am in German and recognised more words than I did during her angry rant, so he let me know what she was accusing me of and what she said to other guests. She said that I was being careless and playing with the machine to break it.
I was not playing with the machine. I swiped on the menu screen to see the coffee options available.
I cannot recommend anyone stay here due to this. The rest of the staff were very friendly but this experience completely ruined our stay here.
The main reason for this satisfaction was the noticeably great working atmosphere among the hotel team, which of course also had an effect on the guests. The boss herself played a significant role in this, as she not only waved the baton but also actively pitched in - respect...
As we were also able to celebrate our wedding anniversary in the middle of it all and I had already contacted her in advance about a bouquet of flowers, we were then surprised with a very impressive result. This was only made possible by the personal commitment of the boss, which was certainly not to be expected on this scale.
Let's leave emotions aside:
The room was big enough and equipped with a functional bathroom. Of course, this hotel is in the city center and there are still people there after 10 p.m. It didn't bother us and we slept very well anyway. If you have problems with this, you should book a room with windows facing the inner courtyard.
Conclusion:
The Zauner family - we will see each other again.
Breakfast very good, everything fresh, fruits, cheese, meat, eggs, juices etc. Also the coffee from the vending machine was top. Staff very friendly and helpful.
We parked in the parking garage by the town hall, not by the hotel because it was too narrow.
Walking distance from Hbf station, and straight into the centre of Ulm from the front door of the hotel.
Pleasant atmosphere; nice clean room and simple facilities; nicely run by the ladies and made to feel welcome. Quiet night. Feels like a German hotel and not a chain.
We liked it and thank you.
don't choose the Hotel zum Rathaus. It is in the party zone of Ulm.
Extremely loud until the early morning. The staff was nice and the hotel room was also OK.
When I complained to the manager I was treated abysmally
Were it not for this I would gladly come again - good location and breakfast although the rooms were not quite dark enough for me at night
