Detailed Reviews
I came here with a group of 7 friends. Initially, we booked to attend the Cannstatter Volksfest 2020, which was subsequently cancelled but we went ahead with the trip anyway.
We booked two rooms of 4, initially at around £450 per room, but I later price-matched via ebookers down to £135 per room, presumably due to massively decreased demand after the festival cancellation. For this reason, i'd strongly recommend either booking a refundable room or book through a third party site with a good price match policy!
The room was clean and modern, no complaints. Shower and toilet were separated, which is good.
Location of the hostel is great. I'd strongly recommend using the electric scooters to get around the town, which can be hired via various apps (eg lime scooter is €10 for 24 hours unlimited up to 30 minutes per ride). There always seems to be a good number of them outside the hostel and all over the town.
The front desk staff were incompetent. We had a lot of problems checking in (we checked in at separate times), lots of confusion, many of the key cards did not work. One of our party was charged for the room despite them both being pre-paid, and later managed to sort out a refund. I was also separately asked to pay, although I did not as I had made the initial booking!
The people in the room next door were very noisy one night - very loud music after midnight, sounded like they were having a wrestling match.
Breakfast is not great value. You can get a better breakfast for a similar price at a nearby bakery, or one of the cafes in the town centre.

The reception is by the main entrance where the lounge area is. After 10pm is quiet time, the pool table close also at 10pm, even it is completely separated to the rooms. The rooms are clean and the beds are in average good (bunker bed), some rooms have a double or two beds next to each other, what it could be convenient for when you travel as a couple and both are free. The hostel should think of this before because I noticed that sometimes one single person takes both beds. In my room the toilet is separated from the bathroom (thumbs up), the down side is the design of the bathroom, there is no hangers or shelves for when you go to shower, also in the bathroom the space is quiet small (I'm a short and slim) it was difficult to change there.

It was the most reasonable accommodation in Stuttgart with a family of eight. There is an U-Bahn across the street, a couple of grocery stores in the neighborhood, and some restaurants. It’s also close to the city center. It was clean and frankly very spacious, although the furnishing is sparse as would be expected of a hostel. All the beds have their own light and either electric/USB outlet. The TV was advertised as “large screen” but it definitely was not…but it was okay since we weren’t there for that (it worked just fine though).
Only criticisms are that it needed more light and the WC was at times REALLY stinky (cigarette smoke and stinky toilet).

My €50 private family room had 4 beds and a baby bed amd an ensuite bathroom with great hot water shower and was better than a lot of hotels. The evening staff were international and friendly and I was able to reserve a parking space. Great!

Very good service, clean and neat rooms, excellent location. Employees are very friendly and ready to assist you to find best solution for your needs. Excellent price-quality ratio. Very good measures to prevent spread of COVID-19 through disinfection, no mask-no service policy etc. Overall, very good experience and I will choose a&o hostels in the future as well.

Maybe for the better:
The location is very good in Stuttgart and you are only one tram stop away from the HBF (good connections). The room was clean despite full occupancy and also the sanitary facilities. The check-in was very fast and even the late Check-out was possible for only 13€. The bed mattress was also very comfortable.
Now for the negative:
At the beginning, when I arrived in front of the hostel building, I was a bit shocked when I saw a lot of Roma groups at the entrance, who stayed there often as well as in the lobby. At the same time, there were isolated drinkers in front of the building, which was initially very dissuasive. At first I really got the feeling due to the fat housing window that it was a temporary accommodation rather than a typical Hostel, as if people were living here permanently due to the expensive rents of the city. Also in my room were sometimes very strange people accommodated, who in my opinion saw the Hostel only as a purpose-built sleeping place, but did not even really feel like communicating (which is fine in itself). In the lobby there is partly the Hostel vibe that you would otherwise know from international hostels, but I personally just lacked the personal touch or authenticity of the visitors. One thing I also don't understand is why double beds are offered in dormitories. They are usually very unpopular because strangers do not want to sleep directly next to each other, even often couples among strangers. This may be a hint to the Hostel management itself.
Overall, the price-performance ratio was nevertheless very suitable for Stuttgart standards!

Close to city center; public transportation next door; strong beds with descent matras; bathroom in the room; storing food/drinks in fridge was no problem
BUT
Staff is not familiar with procedures and way of working:
* Booked breakfast at reception on arrival; didn’t receive the necessary QR-code and/or our name/room number was not on the list of the staff
* Made reservation for parking; reply form hostel was, that this is available and we just have to ring the bell to enter the parking and at the reception we’ll pay during our check-in; when we rang the bell, the staff member told me to check in fiets; at the check-in the other staff member, who checked us in, told us that we can ring the bell next time :-s

I recently stayed at A&O Hostel and had a fantastic experience. The hostel's clean and modern facilities, coupled with friendly staff, made my stay enjoyable. The central location was convenient for exploring the city, and the affordable pricing added great value to my trip. I highly recommend A&O Hostel for budget travelers seeking comfort and a welcoming atmosphere.

It's brilliant that you can stay overnight in a big city so cheaply! Absolutely OK for the price, even if not perfect.
When selecting ratings, I would like it if there was also the option "good". Some things are worse than "very good" but better than "satisfactory"
The 6-bed room I was in would have been much more comfortable if there had been a third bunk bed in the room instead of the double bed. I had the top bunk of the bunk bed by the window and it was probably only 50 cm to the foot of the double bed. The reception told me that the double bed was for families. Makes sense, but I'm sure there are plenty of solo travelers and they could use the room with 3 bunk beds much more comfortably. Both options could be possible.....
The shower and toilet in the room were clean. The beds are very solidly built, so there are no creaking noises. OK, I'm hard of hearing too. The shower would probably need much stronger ventilation to avoid mold. The men in my room slept at very different times and it was nice to see how considerate everyone was.
The atmosphere in the hotel was friendly and relaxed and it was nice how mixed the crowd was.
I can and will recommend A&O.

Hi, please leave a note of your preferences on the reservation and we will try to organise everything.
Breakfast for adults is 7€, for kids 3,50€. We offer a continental breakfast buffet, drinks included
Hi, towels are already included when you reserve a single or double room. In a more bedded room we give the guests the decision to decide. You can buy towels for 1,50€ at the reception.
The luggage storage is for free.
Hi. Yes there were clean towels provided in the room. The room was huge and the building very modern. It seems one half is a hotel and the other half a hostel and was very well equipped. There is a luggage storage room which is free. Staff provide access or you can pay a small amount to use a luggage locker. Just like you find at railway stations. Some are big enough to fit a large rucksack. Stuttgart Railway Station has lots of luggage lockers as well.
First you take the train S2/S3 to the main station and after that you switch to the underground train U12, direction Remseck, and get out at "Milchhof". Just a few more steps and you're directly in front of our hotel
Hallo, da unser Hotel mitten in der Stadt ist, ist es, wie überall in Deutschland, schwierig günstig parken zu können. Seitenstraßen sind weiter vom Hotel entfernt, aber vielleicht hat man Glück.
