Detailed Reviews
A group of 10 of us stayed here for a week on one of our annual skiing trips.
The reception is large with a quick check in although we had problems with the keys at first and had to be given a different room.
The rooms were a bit tatty and small and could do with updating but to be honest we were only in our rooms to sleep so it wasn't a bother. There were pegs to hang your ski gear on as you walked through the door with a full mirror and a double wardrobe that had a safe in and shelves one side, hanging rail on the other side. Also in the room was a small wall mounted flat screen TV, a small circular table with a kettle and tea/coffee, a double side cupboard with a chair which I used as a desk for my laptop, a small circular bedside table with a lamp and telephone on and twin beds sharing one duvet.
The bathroom was tiny with only 1 person being able to enter at a time after manoeuvring the small space to enter as the bathroom door was too close to the bed. There was also a hair dryer, large toiletries, a small shower, a large mirror and a pull out hanger to dry clothes. The toilet was separate from the bathroom and near the door as you entered.
The evening entertainment was full on with live bands, musicals, talent shows and dancing creating a full dance floor most nights that even included balloons and fluorescent theme nights. There were big screens and plenty of seating areas in the entertainment area with a theatre area that has a stage for the shows.
There is a main restaurant and a restaurant which has to be booked. The main restaurant is very large with such a vast variety of food that even the fussiest of people should find something they like. The booked restaurant is great as you cook your own food on grills and a big cheese fondue makes a great dip.
At lunchtimes the outside area had a small selection of food & drinks with plenty of seating areas for outside eating whilst being entertained by the entertainment team. Also after skiing the massive lounge area has snacks available. The bar is well stocked and has great cocktails although of a limited selection.
The swimming pool was big with plenty of loungers and soft seating area. It also hosted a daily aqua aerobic programme that was fun.
The hotel is a ski in and out hotel so it's easy to hit the slopes. There's plenty of double lockers to leave your ski gears near to the exit/entrance and the ski lessons are well organised with friendly and patient instructors.
Overall a full on hotel with great skiing facilities, so much food, full on entertainment programme but tatty rooms.

Excellent ski vacation mostly due to great weather and excellent snow conditions.
The reception staff and the housekeeping are totally lost at Club Med. We were given very little information on arrival and some false. We were told the equipment rental is open from 19h30 Sunday when really it was open much earlier (when we saw the line at later on). Since our rooms weren’t ready, we could have used the time to get the equipment we rented in advance.
We waited 3 hours for our rooms to be prepared when we arrived (after the check in time). The man at “information desk” had no clue what customer service is all about and refused to give us a time when the rooms would be ready. What an image on arrival!
When we finally got the rooms, they were are so small, outdated and the room smelt of body odor. One could barely walk around the bed. It felt like the Club Med of the 70s (I’m told). Housekeeping seems to be limited to making the beds. I’m not sure that not cleaning the room one day is part of the plan either.
The new (replacement) Teen GO was there the first night when she was introduced then less and less as the week went by. She stopped getting involved and organizing activities with the kids as time went on. Good thing the kids had good little group and had a lot of fun anyway.
Although most of the GOs made our stay pleasant and made up for some of the negative experiences, the best part of the stay was the ESF instructors. The staff at the ski shop, restaurant, bar and spa are awesome.
This Club Med is way overpriced for what is offered and unfortunately, they appear to have little interest in fixing the things they can control.

Great resort and hotel is in best location. Package is good value as includes ski pass and full 5 days ESF instruction in groups of circa 8 sorted by ability. Hotel food and service is first class and rooms are fine. Hotel decor is a bit dated but quality of food, bars and staff make up for this and create a great atmosphere.

We stayed for a week at CM VDS during NYE and are still there now. The skiing and ski school is excellent, fantastic credit to ESF. A good location for access to the lifts and ski domain.
The hotel is very tired and I wouldn’t recommend this lodging to a friend. It is closing in 2 years time and there is no investment, the food is to a low standard, the room doesn’t look clean, it’s dustily, it smells, the service is ok, not to the standard of other CM such as Pragelato or Samoens. I did speak to the Chef de Village, (Shira), she really didn’t care and I know people complained about the rooms, the smells etc.
I understand the staff can’t do anything and we are enjoying ourselves but I feel short changed by CM. I wouldn’t come back here and may not use CM again even though we have been 6 times in 5 years.
People only have an issue when they spend a lot of money and get sub standard, this is a CM issue, who are milking as much money as possible before they close this down and open a new one in Tignes.
Come on CM, get the basics right, food, service and cleanliness, this CM venue falls short in all the key categories.

We spent a week here over New Years Eve. As previous reviews have stated the hotel is very dated and in desperate need of a makeover - but its not the purple and red striped carpet that was a huge disappointment as I can live with that, its that the beds were terrible and creaked with every movement (every member of our group had this). For the prices we paid I would have thought Club Med could invest in proper beds. In addition, we were very unlucky to be allocated a room that was literally next to both the bar and to a service lift shaft, guaranteeing loud noise almost 24/7.
We spoke to the GO who was understanding and professional, but explained that as the hotel was full she was under pressure from the company to accept a booking for every room, even those they would not usually deem fit for purpose!
For a company who claim that customer service is their top priority this is an interesting decision.
As a Club Med regular, I also feel that I have to comment on the level of service and general attitude of the staff. We had restaurant staff clearing full plates off the tables half an hour before breakfast closed on regular occasions when we left the table briefly to get a coffee refill (leaving coats on the chairs so they knew the table was occupied). You had to watch them like a hawk! and there was none of the Club Med spirit to be seen in terms of interaction with the GM's - all the staff just looked disinterested and like they were deliberately doing the minimum.
On the positive side of things, the location is excellent and the constant supply of snacks during the afternoon is very welcome.
Club Med have subsequently refused to give any compensation and their offer of a very small credit towards our next stay will not be accepted as we will not be returning,

So this is the second year running me and my family stayed at this resort for Christmas along with 6 other friends. We was not off to a good start when all of our bags were lost by the airline. To say the hotel were useless would be an understatement and they could not even provide us a toothbrush! Unfortunately the staff this year are not up to standard at all and in our opinion most had bad attitudes. Most of the guys were only interested in chatting to young ladies and I was horrified to see one taking a guest to his room. The front desk were not very knowledgeable and were not able to answer or solve the most basic of questions. The rooms as mentioned by several guests are below standard with uncomfortable beds and pillows. One positive is the food is good by buffet standards coming from someone who hates buffet food. The entertainment this year was also very amateur and cringe worthy to watch compared to the previous year. for the cost of 10 of us to stay here I wish we had hired our own chalet.

I am a gold member and use club Med for skiing twice every year with big groups and family, so this is in comparison to other great holidays with club Med. Location and atmosphere at club Med Val D,Isère is great, but they have stopped investing so rooms are badly maintained , light fittings hanging by wires and mould on walks. Food in speciality restaurant was inedible, ski school disorganised and short of unstructured, Chef d’ village never seen ( not surprising given the list of complaints) , standard of food in main restaurant not as good as other resorts. Did La Plange earlier this year , better food , better organised ski school and active chef d village.

Arrived to the hotel for Xmas, and unfortunately the reviews are true. Very small rooms that are outdated, smell of cigarettes and have multiple stains on the carpet in the room and hallways. There is a indoor pool which is not warm enough to relax in, 2 saunas, no steam room and the jacuzzi is only available to the most expensive rooms (its outside). Dressing gowns only available for the top rooms, this is not a 4 star hotel at all. The food is 4 stars but the rooms and so called spa are not.
The rooms feel more like a hostel.
Disappointed.
the only good side is the food and the staff!
I have been trying talking to the hotel customer service since my trip but they didn't come back to me.

We have just returned from skiing and staying in The Refuge at Club Med. We have stayed at the club many times but this was our first visit to the Refuge. The whole experience was fantastic. We were greeted by charming staff who accompanied us to the Refuge lounge and quickly and efficiently dealt with formalities. we found the suite to be very spacious, comfortable and welcoming with a lovely view of the slopes. As ever the main bar and restaurant were lively, noisy but always fun. The Refuge was peaceful and restful. The entire staff were always charming, helpful and fun. The snacks throughout the day and the evening canapes were delicious and the champagne a welcome treat at the end of a long day skiing. We thoroughly enjoyed sitting in the hot tub relaxing with a drink and watching the sun set. All in all we had a fantastic time.

Having stayed in Albion and Cefalu, we expected a rich offer of service and remarkable food. Unfortunately this was not the case.
First of all, we must highlight the research into design in the common areas which is successful. On the other hand, for the suites of the old 5T they were entitled to a lick of paint and a refresh of the taps.
The main problem with this village is that it was made for skiing in winter. The interior is often dark due to the size of the windows and especially the low ceiling height. The other problem is that there are two terraces: one in front of the entrance and one in front of the yoga studio, no external outbuildings (multi-sport field). It is not possible to eat outside from the main restaurant unlike what you find in other villages in the Alps. In the end we have a closed building not very suitable for summer.
The village is located in a quiet area (no shop or bar) with a shuttle that goes to the roundabout of the slopes after which you either have to walk or take the yellow train which passes every 20 minutes.
On the other hand, we were bothered every evening by the invasion of flies in our room. The Club offers an insecticide spray to remedy the problem.
Concerning the catering we noticed that the basic products were more noble than in the surrounding 4Ts. However, the seasoning was too strong (salt) and the dishes were often difficult to identify, all accentuated by the fact that the GE at the stands did not speak French and very little or no English at all. It's a shame, more readable dishes could have highlighted the products.
Regarding vintages, it's a beautiful restaurant with an electric pianist. we tested the first tomahawk of the season and also the first fade (after insisting on having one). It was good.
Thanks to Lee for his wine advice.
In terms of entertainment, it's so calm that we meet GMs taking a nap in the theater at 2 p.m.
Apart from hiking and mountain biking there are no non-sporting activities. It's a shame because it doesn't develop the interactions between GMs and GOs.
The downside of this village is the room service:
The mini bar was never refilled nor was new bottle of mineral water provided. You always had to complain to the font desk, without getting the expected result.
Same thing for the breakfast which was a failure or which did not arrive. However, when Jonathan took matters into his own hands, things went better for breakfast.
Generally speaking, GOs are young and this is often their first experience, they do not necessarily know the codes of the hotel industry. Many do not speak French, which is a bit surprising when we see the clientele which is mainly French in summer.
Finally, we did not feel the hyper personalization that we can have in the exclusive Alps collection spaces or the chalets.
We thank Cinzia and Guanluca from the store for their kindness.
In the end, the village's offer needs to evolve, the training of GOs improved on certain areas. Room service must be revised to work whether via the concierge or the CM app.
We wish Barq a good recovery.
