InterContinental Lyon - Hotel Dieu is at the heart of the Peninsula of Lyon, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Located in a landmark building originally dating back to the 18th century, our hotel offers magical views on the Rhône river, the basilica of Notre-Dame de Fourviere, our historical courtyards, and the city of Lyon. Hotel's Favourite
This hotel is architecturally stunning. The way they have used the huge outdoor space in the centre to house restaurants, bars and gardens makes for a wonderfully vibrant area.
The hotel is converted from a hospital and, unfortunately, our first room reminded me vey much of a hospital room I had recently been in. Tiny with dark grey walls and a utilitarian bathroom. A very nice lady at reception looked for alternatives for us and, for a small extra charge, we were moved to a lovely suit. Very spacious with seperate large sitting room and wonderful bathroom. No river views but we enjoyed the views of the terracotta tiled roofs. Still grey colour palette everywhere though - carpets, sofas, walls - at least light grey this time.
Breakfast service was perfunctory but adequate. The hotel is perfectly situated for walking to most sights and eating in the central courtyard is a delight.

Dear Madam, We would like to thank you for taking the time to leave us this very nice note and your comment following your stay in Lyon. Our hotel is located in the Grand Hôtel-Dieu, a former hospital that has been transformed into a place where the people of Lyon and travellers from all over the world can come and enjoy the beauty of its surroundings. In order to pay homage to the past of the site, the interior designer created a monacal and precious decoration. We are delighted that the second room proposed by our team met your expectations. The view over Lyon's rooftops is charming. We look forward to welcoming you back to the heart of the city. Sincerely yours, Madelijn Vervoord, General Manager

Same fabulous Intercontinental service as we are used to in Hong Kong. Remarkable, because the hotel opened only last year. Staff at check in provided a very professional service in multiple languages, concierge booked our restaurant table -perfect recommendation and advised on our sight seeing tour. The GM looked after her guests personally and this rounded off or fantastic experience -in difficult Covid times-. We will return for sure and can sincerely recommened this Intercontinental in Lyon, definitely worth a visit because the building is authentic and location superb for visiting Lyon! Thanks Gerwin.

We stayed for one night on our way to the Alps for a well-deserved ski vacation. It was certainly not a hardship to stay at the IHG. It was our first time at this hotel. Since we haven't built up any status, we usually stay at Marriott or Hilton properties. If there isn't a good Hilton or Marriott at the location we're heading to, we'll definitely book IHG more often.
Regarding the hotel, the rooms are beautifully decorated with extremely high ceilings. The staff is attentive and goes the extra mile. We stayed here with our 6-month-old baby, and they boil special mineral water for the baby. That's what I call attentive and excellent service! The breakfast may not be very extensive, but the choices available are of very high quality. So, you'll definitely find something you like. The location is fantastic, with everything nearby, and taking a walk across the river in the evening is definitely worth it as the hotel is beautifully lit. We know for sure that we'll be back next year when we go skiing.

We stayed in this hotel twice - once before our river cruise and once after. Before the cruise, as the hotel was less crowded, we were allowed to check in very early around 11 and they kindly 'upgraded' us to a room facing the river. After the cruise, we could not check in so early but still had a room by 1 odd, although the check in time was officially 3 pm, so that was good. However, this time, as the hotel was crowded, we had a room facing the courtyard. The view of course was not so great but the main issue was the noise from a very popular nearby restaurant (it was a Friday night/weekend). Fortunately, it was a background noise but be forewarned if you are a light sleeper. Also, the second time, our room was just next to the security door and so we could hear it shutting till at least midnight. And the air conditioning was a bit strange in that we had difficulty figuring out how it worked. Concierge was very helpful - we were served by two gentlemen. One helped us to book a Bouchon while another recommended where we could buy good quality but reasonably priced macarons.

As we drove into town for the first time, we noted an imposing building along the river and wondered who would be living in what seemed like a palace. It turned out that was our hotel! The InterContinental Lyon.
Most magnificent of all InterContinental Hotels. Grand in the best sense of the word. It is very modern, but it holds on to its heritage. It is beautiful. The attention to detail in the rooms is like something I have never seen. Wait until you look out at the river through the tremendously tall windows.
The front desk staff are excellent. They walked us to our rooms and gave us the history of the building. Their pride in the property was strong. They love the history and it shows. We particularly remember Alexi for his personal service. He was very attentive and sought to make our experience special. The concierge made sure we had items at the bar that were not usually available. They made it happen. The bar--Le Dome! Exquisite. Whether you stay at this hotel or not, you should go see it.
Breakfast at Epona was the best buffet we have ever had. From the honeycomb straight from the beehives (wow!) to grilled tomatoes along side the hash browns to the spread of pastries, eggs, pancakes, etc..
We stayed at the hotel twice within a week. We had to come back for the encore.

After considering other luxury hotel options in Lyon we were very glad we chose the Hotel Intercontinental. The location is truly central (hotels in Fourviere would have involved lots of taxis or long, steep walks). While Intercontinental is part of a large chain (IHG), the hotel is in a sensitively renovated building with a long and fascinating history (download and take the tour of the building). The staff were efficient and helpful, especially Justine the concierge. Breakfasts were generous and our upgraded room, with view of the Rhône River, was very well designed with a spacious bathroom. And, in these times, I have to note that mask compliance among the staff was notable.

The Intercontinental Lyon is a recently renovated historical military hospital on the river Rhone. The refurbishment is spectacular and the facility is amazing.
For a 5 star property with 5 star pricing, the service is seriously lacking. During our 2 night stay we had a series of disappointments. Our room was insufferably hot when we arrived, we called reception and they assured us a technician would be dispatched, when nothing happened for hours we went to the front desk on our way to dinner to ask again…again we were reassured. We returned after dinner to find nothing had been done and we slept in a sweltering room. It was finally addressed the next day. Nobody apologized or ever checked to see if it was rectified.
Our room service breakfast arrived stone cold, we waited almost and hour for a bellman to collect our luggage, etc.
The pandemic has caused staffing challenges for businesses around the globe, I am empathetic.
However, when you promise 5 star service, and charge accordingly…you need to deliver!

Fabulous location on the Rhone River with easy walking distance to most restaurants, sights, and shopping. Though on a busier street, hotel was very quiet, no noise and we felt very safe. Check-in was efficient, informative, and friendly. We used American Express and received a room upgrade with $85 hotel credit. Our suite was two levels facing the river with great views. The top level had a couch, desk, closet, fridge with drinks, Nespresso and complimentary still and sparkling water. Lower level was the bedroom and well-equipped bathroom. Wi-fi was very good and there were USB ports at bedside. Breakfast, included in our rate, was an excellent buffet with a wide selectin of hot and cold dishes, excellent pastries and great coffee. Overall service throughout the hotel was professional, helpful and friendly. Would absolutely stay here when we return to Lyon.

We only stayed one night, but it will in no way be the last stay, and next time we will stay longer for sure.
We were driving back from Southern France and as we had an appointment at a Chateau to buy wine for a party next day, we decided to have a night in Lyon which is one of our favorite cities in the world.
At our last stay we stayed for a week at the Boscolo, but found it underwhelming, especially the breakfast was really bad, like serving cold pancakes directly from a box, – not like lukewarm – like frozen cold, so we were looking for something more luxurious.
I have had my eyes on the hotel, but the lack of pool had made us choose other hotels in the past, but the beauty and the excellent and professional service made up for that 10-fold.
We had booked a deluxe room but due to availability we were gracefully upgraded to a duplex suite. And what a room. We were blown away – especially by the 6 meters high window looking out at the river.
The bathroom was huge with double sinks, and there was a large tub, we unfortunately did not have the chance to use.
The breakfast was excellent, with the sweetest and professional chef to serve you. and it was magnificent to sit in the Café Dome and have cocktails while looking up at the Dome.
The only downside at the hotel was the food at the Café Dome, where processed chicken that tasted really bad was used in both their Cesar-salad and sandwich, but beside that everything was perfect.
When we left, the valet had left cold water bottles in our car, which was a nice touch

This is a new hotel in converted space in central Lyon. For Amex users it has FHR benefits. It’s new and there were a few minor issues with service (laundry brought back wet, waited a long time to be able to have a drink in hotel bar). The concierge Marion was very helpful and came up with some great restaurant choices. The location is walkable to the nice shopping area and the main sightseeing activities. We stayed in a spacious 2 level suite (230). The rooms was clean and felt like it qualified as 5 star but didn’t stand out as particularly luxurious. Breakfast buffet was ok. My main takeaway was that it was hard to get coffee. This is almost a 5 out of 5 for me in the category of entry-level 5 star. I think we’d likely stay again if back in Lyon.
