"A secret garden in Aix-en-Provence" The Hotel Le Pigonnet is an enchanting escape in the heart of Aix-en-Provence. This elegant Provence bastide combines the 18th century warmth with a contemporary style in order to offer guests a pure delight of charm and peacefulness, where the heaven’s doors are always opened. And imagine admiring the majestic Sainte-Victoire Mountain as through the eyes of the renowned painter Paul Cézanne. The beautiful garden remains a real place to live where regular guests, guests on holidays or people from the city, play the traditional “pétanque”, enjoy the swimming pool or savor southern cuisine dishes, at the restaurant La Table du Pigonnet. Take a stroll around this marvelous garden. The magic and peaceful atmosphere makes you believe you are not in the heart of the city. This haven of peace is lined up with century chestnut trees, a blooming arcade with roses of a thousand colors. Le Pigonnet currently brings Aix locals and tourists from around the globe together via fine dining and music. Traditions and modern art de vivre are rolled into one, making the hotel an ideal base for touring the south. It is also a destination in itself. Relax to the sound of the water features and walk in Paul Cézanne's footsteps. No need to go far to escape as you explore the delightful sections one after another.

Hôtel Le Pigonnet captivates many of its guests with its enchanting garden and inviting pool, though the charm is sometimes overshadowed by concerns over renovations and AC issues. The staff's attentive service receives accolades, despite occasional hiccups during refurbishments. While the outdoor bar's ambiance is praised, critiques are aimed at the rooms' outdated decor and inadequate soundproofing. Cleanliness is a strong suit, particularly regarding bedding and the option for private pools. However, some guests question the hotel's value, pointing to overpricing and less-than-stellar services amidst renovations.

Very nice hotel, a little outside the city center (you have to take your car to go to the city center) but in a very beautiful garden with swimming pool.
On arrival we were upgraded to the most beautiful, huge and ultra comfortable suite with an ultra luxurious bathroom (large jacuzzi bath and large walk-in shower, bathrobes and ultra soft towels)!
special mention for the kindness of the staff: we arrived around 6:30 p.m., time to settle in and it was a bit "just" to be able to take advantage of the swimming pool which closed at 7 p.m.....But the young man responsible for the closure immediately told me not to hurry and that it would only close after we had passed...
Likewise we had to leave very early. When we got off, breakfast was being set up and there were no scrambled eggs yet, the manager immediately went to ask the kitchen to prepare some for me!
Attentive service, excellent bedding and delicious, varied and fresh breakfast taken in the lovely garden

What a perfect place to begin our first return trip to France, “post” pandemic! From our initial emails all the way to our departure, the service and hospitality were top-notch.

On our arrival, our health pass was scanned and we noticed their strict compliance to COVID protocols. Masks were worn in general areas but we were able to remove them once seated at the dining table. Our superior room (#30) over-looked the stunning gardens. It was quiet and very comfortable. The bed, linens and pillows are an important part of our travel enjoyment and these were perfection. The large walk in shower with a rain shower head, the lovely toiletries and the magnifying mirror are nice extras. The towels were soft and fluffy and the bathrobes were appreciated. There is a room safe, pod coffee maker, tea kettle and plenty of shelves also a full length mirror.

Dinner in the restaurant is a must, with reservations in advance recommended. (See separate review) The food was amazing and the service was warm, friendly and professional. We appreciated the wine paired suggestions and the view of the gardens. Breakfast is a menu with a large selection of eggs cooked to your favor, coffee drinks, pastries, etc. I believe it is usually a buffet but with the pandemic it is now delivered to the table. The beautiful garden is quite large and has several seating areas, fountains, statues and a full bar. It is near the heated pool, which due to some rain we were unable to enjoy. We visited Aix 7 years ago and stayed in the Renaissance in town. This location is a short walk to town but worlds away in the sense of its beauty and serenity. We can’t recommend this hotel highly enough! Our deepest thanks to the entire staff, especially in the handling of a slight discomfort that was remedied quickly and to our complete satisfaction.

This was the best place we stayed in Provence. We were upgraded to a junior suite which was beautiful and had a bath and a private terrace. The staff were so friendly and professional. Nothing was a problem. Some reviews said it was too far from the town centre but we found the location excellent and it was very quiet at night. We are used to walking.

We regularly come to your Pension during the Festival with great pleasure. However this time well the elements did not work at all. Even if you indicate that you are in the process of doing work, the packer of it has no connection to your ad. Your staff, who are usually so pleasant, are totally unfamiliar with this situation and a manager seems to be absent. If you take the risk of doing work while keeping the Pension open (a false decision in my review) it is all the more necessary to take care of the guests. A 15% discount (from a very high Award for a small room) is a gesture but it is not enough. No one apologized at any time for the noise and significant nuisance. The pool and its toilets, the only accessibpes outside the room, were not cleaned or the linens replaced once for 3 hours. For a 5* is unacceptable. Breakfast service was deplorable and slow. In my review, this Pension lacks a capable management. Sorry to be so direct.

We were traveling with a baby, and asked for a room that suited us. We were told it will be in the main building, with no stairs. We checked into room 52, and there were several steps and an elevator that accommodated a stroller with difficulty.
Arrival in the room and no mini bar, so no option to refrigerate baby things. We asked to cancel the room directly, and we were canceled except for the first night.
We were not contacted by a manager, but fortunately because we transferred to another hotel, a real 5 hotel a few minutes away, which is much better than the 500-600 euros paid per day.

We just returned from an overnight stay at the hotel and were very glad it was only one night. The August review below is not reality as we experienced it. Rather the July review was basically our experience. This hotel should not be open and the staff all know it. As described, this is a construction site.
The emails we received in advance in no way accurately conveyed the extent of the situation.
When we checked in along with a friend, the AC in her room wasn’t working. She called to complain and someone showed up with a fan. She finally got them to give her a different room.
Our room was in the building adjacent to the pool. When we returned at 8:30PM after dinner out (our booked dinner at the hotel was canceled as a result of thunderstorms since it had to be outdoors), there were no lights from the driveway around the pool to the entrance to our building. The paved area around the pool was flooded.
Breakfast was delivered to our room but there was not any comfortable or reasonable place to put the food for two of us to eat. One positive note - it was delivered on time and was fine.
Bottom line: the staff is doing the best they can but clearly the corporation who owns and manages this hotel only wants the money and isn’t concerned about their reputation.

I booked the hotel in early September booking a superior room with garden view and breakfast. After about 10 days I received an email warning me that the hotel was being renovated, that there would be works that would not create problems. Arrived I was given an upper room with yard view and pool, not garden. The room in my opinion was obsolete and the elevator full of dust. At night I was disturbed by someone snoring and noises from the other rooms, ie soundproofing not at best. Breakfast, paid for separately, was not at 5-star level. Finally, I had trouble making myself understood because my English was in deficit and nobody spoke Italian. The renovations, if one remained in the room after nine in the morning, felt very .The positive notes were the kindness of the staff, really helpful, but above all the hotel restaurant in my opinion outstanding both for the skill of the chefs and for the kindness and professionalism of the staff, with a final bill just right for the quality / price ratio. Overall a living room with more shadows than lights, we should perhaps return after all the renovations are finished.

GO ELSEWHERE.

My wife and I stayed at Le Pigonnet for part of our honeymoon this August. A few months ago, the hotel reached out to let us know that they were undergoing renovations but assured us (twice via email) that the renovations would be completed by our arrival with the exception of the fitness center and spa. They were adamant this would be the case, so we decided to not make any changes to our plans.

Well, it was clear upon arrival that the hotel renovations were far from complete. The hotel lobby, hallway walls and floors were all very obviously TEMPORARY. The hallway walls in particular were either a flexible tarp-like material or white painted plywood, a sorry attempt at passing off as actual solid/completed walls. Hallway floors were concrete with a carpet rolled down the middle.

Our room was average-to-crappy at best. The toilet hadn't been cleaned when we arrived (there was a poop smudge), one of the lights above the bed was perpetually flickering, and the shower didn't drain which created a complete bathroom flood in less than 3 minutes of shower time. The night we arrived, I emailed the hotel reception and asked to speak with the manager ASAP, to which they never replied. And there was rarely someone sitting at the temporary hotel lobby desk who could help, so we never had a chance to vocalize our issues directly. (Maybe now they'll reply to me).

We feel totally deceived given the promises the hotel made about the renovations (in writing), and the fact that they tout a 5-Star rating non-stop. It was such a complete misrepresentation that we'll likely go to our credit card company and file a claim to charge back the hotel. The truth is this hotel should not be open right now and it's a far cry away from 5-Stars.

Make other plans and go somewhere else in town, this place isn't worth it at least for another year or two. Shame on Le Pigonnet.

This property is horrible. This is the worst property I have ever been to. When we arrived at the make shift dirty reception area we were nervous. After a long flight we wanted to shower. There was no hot water to take a shower and it took them three hours to resolve. We had to ask them to clean the shower after the workers were in the shower with their work boots. We walked out the patio door and realized the lock was not working. They could not fix the lock until the next day. The rooms are horribly decorated, dirty, and all furnishings need to be replaced. Our sofa had stains on it and mold in the shower floor. We woke up to a lizard in our room along with ants. I couldn’t wait to leave. It was a real bummer as we were looking forward to this vacation for quite some time. Don’t stay here!

The hotel does not live up to its 5 star rating. Upon arrival, after an overnight flight, we had no hot water (took 3 hours to fix with multiple workers in the shower with their boots on), we had a lizard (yes a lizard) in our bathroom the first night, the patio door did not lock and was not fixed until the next morning and we had ants in our room and all over the deck and outside walls. The staff is doing the best they can, but the construction is very disruptive. Management should have shut down the property for a year to do the construction properly and not try to have guests during the renovation. cost was well in excess of the value. The garden area was nice but you had to walk through a construction zone to get to it.
