Just a place to crash at night when you been at a rugby league tournament all day
comfy beds, heaters provided and nice and clean.
free parking available, TV and dining table area the only issue is if your a light sleeper then the highway is pretty much at it's doorstep, But it was just a place to come back and crash and sleep didn't do much else but shower and sleep, so it was perfect for us.

We booked on a website the night before staying. We'd stayed there a few years ago & remembered it as adequate but very average. This time we stayed in one of the upstairs rooms (#14) and it was a very pleasant surprise. Very roomy, nice clean looking decor, big bed, no problems with Wifi. We were arriving late so they had put milk into our fridge and there was a selection of tea, coffee & hot chocolate sachets. I think the upstairs room was miles better than the "down below" rooms, and next time I will try to specify this.

Stayed one night while bow-fishing for Koi Carp.
Arrive at 10.30 pm..no problems... they were happy to wait up for us

Nice room for what we paid.

Decor a bit tired.. but not urgent.

I would stay here again

Bottom of the barrel motel. Fleas in the room. Room smelt like dog. Bedding is old and stained. Beds uncomfortable and mattresses need to be changed. Bathroom was moldy. Carpet is dirty. Had too muck around with the key and even had too leave it in the door overnight. Can't drink the water from the tap. Worst place ever.

This is a great little place to stay. I stopped in for the night before having to travel through to Auckland for my flight and it was a welcome rest and clean room that had everything I needed to rest and refresh after a week in the Waikato. The room was well appointed with a small kitchen, with microwave and utensils. Very comfy queen size bed and very clean room. Service was excellent, and I was lucky to be able to check in early, having called to book a room about 20 mins before arriving.
Great rest stop and the airport is only 45 mins up the expressway. Plenty of parking and very quiet rooms to the rear of the property with views of the river out the back.

Very noisy as right on SH1, and thin walls combined with ignorant guests upstairs made for very little sleep and high blood pressure! That stuff is understandable given the age and location of the motel, but the room felt generally grubby with the last guest's hair in the sink.... the room needs some love and a good scrub guys. Comfy bed, and good location

We race our cars at Hampton Downs Motor Racing Circuit - and arriving from New Plymouth on a Friday evening, we have always stayed that night at the North End Motel due to its handy proximity to the track for the early Saturday morning start. Last weekend we arrived to find a new owner in residence, and he has made some additions that are just great!
A super friendly and welcoming attitude - this Japanese gentleman is really going the extra mile to think about what his customers might want. Soup and toast brought with us is our usual meal on Friday night...but we left it on the bench at home. We had resigned ourselves to having to decamp and drive the 10 minutes back into town for an uninspiring choice of fast food when we noticed something new in our immaculately presented studio room. A MENU!! Not only now is there a wonderful choice of cooked and continental breakfasts - but a dinner menu as well. 5 or 6 choices of Japanese food - we selected the Beef Teriyaki and expected that it was probably going to be a microwaved packet meal. Therefore, we were amazed when right on time, what was obviously a fresh cooked meal arrived on the doorstep. A generous and filling portion of genuine Teriyaki with a bowl of white rice went down a treat - and all without having to budge an inch off the property. My "Big Breakfast" the next morning was just as good, and certainly was big!
The most amazing thing is that the new owner is doing everything on his own...running the motel and even doing the cooking! He is full of energy and ideas, and I have to say that what was your standard small-town motel experience has just turned into something a bit special. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - especially the food!!

Room was serviced daily and made to look as first walked into and was extremely quiet even though it was about 50 meters from the main road. Meals were excellently prepared and tasted as if they were delivered straight from a restaurant however are prepared on the premises. The bed and pillows were the best we have slept on. All in all, this was the best place we stayed and seemed far better than any other we have tried. The staff are extremely hospitable and nice to joke with, we will and are going to go back yearly.

We stopped here on the way from Taranaki (with stopover at Waitomo) and had a flight on the next day. We didn't want to pay for an expensive airport hotel, so this turned out a great option. Very clean and good kitchen, showers were slightly falling appart and there were some hard disks on the bed (maybe to adjust mattress not sure, but made the mattress slightly uncomfortbale on the edges). Would recommend to stay here
