Cozy, comfortable, beautiful rooms! beautiful courtyard and surrounding area. Modern clean bathroom. Next door to an adorable bakery, across the street from a fabulous grocery and the vegetables! Walking distance to Eiffel, Seine, Louvre, Rodin Museums, many charming restaurants, and sites. But most of all, the staff!! Warm and friendly and helpful. It could not have been more perfect!!! I will stay there again, and hope to soon!

Nice stay, helpful staff, beautiful property.

A few quick suggestions for improvement:
1. Lots of water pours onto the floor of the bathroom after pooling on the edge of the bathtub (I think it then leaks to the floor at the hinge where the clear glass plate is mounted to the wall). I don't think this would happen if the shower mount was at the head of the tub rather than at the end (pointing at the toilet).

2. Probably should have a handle to hold onto when exiting the tub, because the tub is at a higher elevation than the bathroom floor. I almost slipped a couple of times when getting out of the shower (partly due to the water on the floor though).

3. A good amount of light from the lights in the courtyard splashes onto the ceiling of the room despite having the heavy blinds drawn. (This might be harder to correct easily; also maybe some people aren't as sensitive to light when they sleep.)

4. I felt wasteful when not finishing the large basket of bread when ordering the continental breakfast, but it was too much for one person. (Probably ~2 pieces per person is sufficient, with the option to ask for more if desired.)

Hotel de Varenne has all the things I want when I am staying in a hotel in Paris: a great location, that is both central and calm, a classically furnished room that was completely quiet even though it faced the street, big French windows, a bathtub, a coffeemaker, a mini-fridge, an extremely comfortable bed, and a beautiful little breakfast room that overlooks a little courtyard. It is a small hotel; the service and care feels personal rather than conveyor belt. We had a deluxe room with a king size bed and it felt spacious for two people with luggage, as did the very nice bathroom. My partner and I stayed 8 nights at the Varenne and were very happy returning to our room each night or for a rest in the afternoon. Nice touches like free Wifi, newspapers in the lobby, umbrellas to borrow. We will definitely return.

A small quiet hotel with a discrete entrance tucked in a porte cochere, elegantly furnished with antiques. While slightly aged, it is utterly pleasant and impeccably clean. TV should be changed for bigger size, but everything else is well thought for the comfort of the guests. The Included continental breakfast with freshly squeezed orange juice and some of the best baguettes you ever ate (even better than the excellent croissants and pains au chocolat!) makes it wonderful. In short, you get an amazing deal in the ideal location in Paris, if you're OK with smaller but very comfortable quiet rooms.

Unfriendly and arrogant reception lady.

My family stayed here for 3 nights. WiFi was only working for one day. Weird stench from rooms. I don’t believe they ever clean the carpet.

After the first day, I asked the reception lady for toilet paper because the housekeeping forgot to put some more. I told the reception lady, but she insisted that there was enough in the room. Reception Lady, why would I lie to you that I don’t have toilet paper? She made it a point to try and prove that there was enough toilet paper. I don’t understand her arrogance in this matter. Also, she gave me a roll of toilet paper that was half used. Who the hell does this at a “four star” hotel? This also happened to my brother’s room. He had to ask the front desk for more toilet paper as well (multiple times). The arrogant front desk lady never apologized.

Another incident - the bathroom clearly has a sign that says to hang your bath towels if you do not need to change them. So, we hanged our bath towels. Housekeeping proceeded to take all of our towels and only left us with the floor towel. Weird. We had to ask the front desk for new towels and the front desk lady looked at us like we were crazy for asking for towels.

Unbelievable lack of awareness and arrogance from the front desk lady. This is not a Parisian characteristic because the bakery next door was so friendly to us every morning we went to get bread.

My parents’ room had plumbing issues from the first day and had to constantly ask for help to get the toilet to flush. All of our rooms had visible paint chipping, which goes to show how the hotel fails to maintain the property.

Don’t bother booking your stay here. You’ll find better value for your money and probably nicer staff.

Another note: you are lying by stating in the review below from tinapjoek that you gave us 6 rolls per day. Why the hell do I need to ask for more if we had two new rolls every day? You are full of lies, dishonest, and arrogant. You should be ashamed of yourselves as hospitality professionals. Maybe professionals is too honorable of a label. Might I suggest labeling you as hospitality novices? Fix your staff and your arrogant attitude.

Our room was nice, had enough space for two and it was calm.
The location is perfect - metro and bus are in walking distance, you can rent bikes at the metro station nearby and you can even walk to the Eiffel-Tower.
The breakfast was surprisingly french, which means no buffet with cheese, fruit or eggs but fresh bread, croissants, pain au chocolate, honey and jam. All in all a house, which is worth a second trip.

Wonderful stay! All employees we interacted with were genuinely friendly, professional and helpful. Hotel: very, very clean, safe, quiet, well appointed, great location... You are allowed to store your luggage if needed prior to check-in. Our 'classic small double bed room' was perfect. Not too small, had stall shower, toilet, hair dryer and towel warmer/heater in generous sized bathroom. Most rooms, I believe, face the court yard. Sometimes, we slept w/our window open (very quiet), others, we used AC on low, worked very well and very cold). Hotel has small elevator. Had breakfast twice (basket of baguette/croissants, butter, jam, orange juice, and pot of coffee - $15 euro pp). Rarely saw other ppl coming or going. I would absolutely stay there at this little gem again!

This hotel was recommended by our friends and we were not disappointed. The room had everything that we needed and was well serviced each day. The breakfast area is relatively small, but the server kept an eye out and promptly cleared the tables as soon as people were finished without making us feel rushed.

My recent stay at Hotel de Varenne was faultless. The staff who were in the reception around the clock were friendly and welcoming and their English was fantastic. The hotel was stunning and our lovely room had all the amenities anyone could ask for. To add to this, we didn’t hear a single noise coming from any of the other rooms which made our stay especially relaxing. The hotel is in a great location, with plenty of bars and restaurants in walking distance and fantastic train links to get to other parts of the city. I would recommend this hotel to anyone!

Hotel de Varenne staff were friendly and helpful throughout a week-long mixed work and leisure visit to Paris. Thoughtful management meets your needs with a clean room, all marble contemporary bathroom, coffee maker and electric kettle, and large TV with plenty of channels. Many of the central Paris sites are an easy walk from the front door and Metro stations are also nearby. Importantly, at least for my room facing the courtyard, it was quiet.

Bonjour! Is there a laundry facility nearby?
Answer from Frances G

Great question. We were going on a river cruise after spending time in Paris at the hotel d’ Varenne. So we needed laundry done before checking out. We thought we’d go to a laundromat near by and spend a morning there but the hotel does the laundry, wash, dry and folds , by the weight. We had plenty of laundry. We gave it to them 2 days before leaving, on a Friday. Got it back the same day. We left on Sunday. Didn’t want to take a chance on Saturday. It cost us about 42 euros. Well worth it. They did a good job.
