The hostel is the quietest I’ve ever stayed in, however the intimate three bed rooms make a great starting place for making friends. So it’s not too isolating.
It’s also well serviced by the 12 metro line so it’s really easy to get to and from attractions quickly (thank you google maps for your route planner).
However, it’s very much a surface clean hostel. Once you look properly you start to see problems and can tell why it’s not won any awards since Covid.
I’m Not convinced our floor was properly cleaned when I arrived or since though bins were emptied. There was a thick layer of dust and grime on the window sills and tiles in the bathrooms - nothing a wipe down or scrub would sort but this was never done.
On the plus side - there didn’t seem to be any bed bugs as they have special mattresses for that.
The staff were polite and helpful and housekeeping & breakfast staff very hard-working. Reception staff spoke good English. They coordinated to quickly return a lost GHIC card to me that had fallen out of my phone case before I even realised it was lost on the last morning, saving me some hassle.
There's a self-service continental breakfast and a small kitchen, a supermarket just across the street, a boulangerie right opposite an excellent restaurant nearby.
The corners of the showers needed attention but I was pleased to have one in my room.
I think all the rooms are a bit noisy (my aunt, daughters and I had rooms in totally different areas of the hostal) because the door is open until 2am and people were coming back that late at night and the doors close with a very loud click.
All of our rooms had very small showers and sinks in them, which I thought for this price was really good.

Location and Service: 5* service and top notch location.
The bed is very comfortable and the rooms are very clean.
I would certainly give 5* if breakfast and internet is better.

I had a bed in a three bed female dorm with bath and toilet. Small and simple, but clean and so pretty.
The hole hostel is just pretty and cool boheme and just like the pictures on booking sites.
Staff is very nice, down to earth, relaxed and make you feel at home. All speaks a little or very good English.
Nice, safe nabourhood, also after dark as a solo female traveler. A mix between quite nabourhood, local shops like boulangeries, pharmacies ect and cafés, where you can sit and have the last glass of wine.
Breakfast is simple, but the room it's served in is worth it and really, you just want coffee, juice and a piece of bread, before you go taste the rest of Paris.

It is a good location with some nice views. Small room and bathroom.
Also wasn't very social as there wasn't a bar or something similar.
All the hotel room/hallway/bathroom doors swing shut automatically -- and kind of loudly - so if you need quiet, ask to be put on a floor where there's likely to be less people.
I've seen a lot of reviews on here from North American visitors who complain about the French hotel they stayed in. I'm Canadian and have lived in France for 3 years, and I can tell you, it's the same everywhere!! Don't expect the same standards here for the same price. If you want the same spaciousness, style and service as in a 100 dollar a night amercian hotel, you need to spend 5 times that in Paris (and you STILL might not get friendly service!)
Hotel Caulaincourt is a great choice for the prices--and it's in a nice neighbourhood not too far from a subway stop. There's a grocery store just down the street and a cool café just beside it.
Enjoy!
Really helpful English speaking reception staff, who couldn't do enough to help us.Cant remember our room number but the room was spacious with a clean and fully working shower and basin (toilet was a shared one out in the corridor).
No A/C in the rooms but this wasn't a problem as the is a great old Parisian window to open and look out of over the roof tops of Paris (not suitable for young kids as there is no guard to stop them leaning out and its a long way down).Table, chair, TV and comfy bed all made for a pleasant stay. Breakfast was more than adequate with helpful waitress's, and a nice continental breakfast (great coffee). For a hostel I was very impressed, and would highly recommend it if your on a budget.
