Interesting, convenient, hostel in the heart of the Montmartre district with friendly staff and many like-minded, Interrailing type people. However no Aircon. Fan was huge and industrial, but still too hot in the 6th (top) floor and couldn't get any sleep til 4am. Free breakfast of croissant, third of a baguette, cereal and juice. Free towel. Good WiFi including on top floor. Computer X2 available at reception for resident use. Cafe type lockers under beds (secure with own padlock), and electronic lockers on ground floor and basement. Coffee machine at reception (not entirely sure where we get coffee pods from) and sale of cold drinks 24hr staffed reception. Lockout during day for cleaning. Electronic keycards. We were in a 6 bed ensuite dorm, good shower and pressure even on top floor. Extra toilets and showers in basement. Basement has kitchen with fridge, hob, microwave (freezer but not for residents). Basements smells a little of mould. Good restaurants/cafes all over the place. We went to 'La Villa Des Abbesses' just round the corner, get for people watching, relaxed, streetside 46.60 Euros for 2 non-alcohilix drinks, burger, pasta and 2 hours of sitting. Never rushed. They did add on 15% without asking food cost 40.60Euros. Still worth it and I would have happily given 15% tip for the time we had.

I stayed here with my grandmother in a private room and had a pleasant experience. The room was small but clean and smartly arranged. Reception was friendly and bag storage was available for free. The elevator and shower were exceptionally small, hardly fit my 5 foot tall self and carry on in it. But it was a new elevator and felt safe. Great location.

My wife and i stayed here for 3 nights as a base for visitng Paris. We have stayed in 3 or 4 hotels around the city before, and found this to be in a great location. It is just round the corner from the Moulin rouge (and therefore has great transport links, but not right by the ---- shops!). On your way from the metro you will pass the cafe des 2 Moulins (made famous in the film Amelie).
The hotel itself is off a main street and so therefore is not too noisy. As mentioned in previous posts the hotel does have a tiny lift, but who cares, if it can fit my wife's suitcase in it, then thats all that matters (as we were on the 6th floor). The room had a good size bed, cupboards and minibar, and also had an en-suite, which as we were on the top floor meant a bit of leaning in the shower!
The staff were all friendly and helpful.
Breakfast was continental style. You are given a basket with fresh croissants and petit pain, and there was a choice of cereals, drinks yoghurts etc. Nothing extravagant, but if you want to use them, there are many eateries and bakeries in this area.

I would definately stay here again, mainly for the location, but if you are on a budget it is excellent!

I stayed in Hotel Utrillo from the 4th of Dec until the 7th with my girlfriend. It was her first stay in Paris. When we arrived I was pleasantly surprised by the look of the Hotel. (just rennovated the outside)The rooms are small but ok. For the amount of money that you spent, you cannot expect alot more. Everything was pretty clean. The only thing that we didn´t like (except from the breakfast which was horrible) was the loudness at night, but I guess that that was due to the area of the Hotel. Mont Martre!!!!

But overall I would stay there again!!!!!

I was here earlier this month with my girlfriend and I have to disagree with most of the reviews on here - For the price, this hotel was excellent!

Our second floor room was smallish, but spotlessly clean! Two thumbs up for the cleaners who kept it that way every day (despite us dropping crisps everywhere) - The rest of the staff were friendly enough too. I don't think we had a problem while we were there.

As everyone else has said, the location is perfect. If you're in Paris for a short stay, you're not going to need a better hotel than this!

My Mother and I visited Paris in September 2005. Having read the reviews about hotel Utrillo on this site I was concerned. We found the hotel to be clean and comfortable, the food to be very nice and the staff were extremely helpful. The location is great (slap bang in the middle of Montmatre), close to the metro (Blanche or Abesses). It is currently undergoing refurbishment so I imagine it will only improve. Yes, the lift is small, as is the breakfast room, but as I didn't come to Paris for either of these it was not a problem. For the money it was a bargain and I would definitely return.

From reading the reviews on this website I didnt expect the Ritz Hotel, however you do expect a certain standard. Our room was on the 5th floor so you had to be very fit to climb 85 steps everytime!! The room was very small, my partner is over 6ft tall and he couldnt fit in the toilet! The carpet was very dirty and the sheets were stained. The bed felt like it would fall apart at any time! Also if anyone flushed the toilet on the floor above it felt like a waterfall was coming into the room! If you want a quiet hotel do not stay here!!
However ........the location was excellent!

The plug-inn hostel is pretty well located in the center of Montmatre, within a few minutes walk from the Metro Station. My wife and I checked in to a private room which was on the 5th floor (in 2 days, we never saw the elevator working, watch out for the amount of luggage you are carrying)
As we were staying in a private room, we decided to leave our important and valuable stuff inside our suitcases, which we pad locked. After a beautiful day walking around Paris, we came back to our hostel around 6pm to find that someone had ripped open the zipper on my suitcase, stealing from us a Mac laptop, an IPhone, and money! The only way to get into the rooms, was with a magnetic card, which of course only my wife, the hostel staff and I had. To our surpise, the hostel was not responsible for anything.. They didn't even refund us the whole amount we paid.. the funny thing is they told us that the room was probably not well closed basically blaming us, but at the same time, they told us that the cleaning service saw the iPhone on the night stand.. So, if nothing was stolen by the time the cleaning service got to our room, is it our fault?? At best, this hostel cannot ensure basic security of anyone's items (even in a private room), and at worst, they conduct inside jobs.. A shame for a hostel in a very good location..

Response from plug-inn, Directeur général at Plug-Inn Hostel
Responded 9 Oct 2012
We are truly sorry this happened to you during your stay. French insurance does not cover theft from rooms which is why French hotels are not responsible for stolen items. There are simply too many people who try to take advange of hotels by declaring stolen items. In your case we really don't have an explanation for this theft but it is certainly not a common occurance. The cleaning staff have been with us for many years and are certainly not going to risk their jobs by stealing things. We do insist (even more so since your incident) that people do not leave valuables in the room rather in the safe provided at the reception free of charge.

Booked this through Airmiles as it was a bit of a bargain deal and budget was key. I didn't read the reviews on here until after booking so I was a little bit concerned once I read some of the early review.

HOWEVER, I am very happy to report that I was more than happy with the hotel. For the price we paid it was an absolute gem. The hotel has obviously gone through some renovation as the appearance is different from the pictures on the website. They seem to have tried to make it cool which looks quite smart.

The room wasn't huge but was the perfect base to start off from and head back to after a hectic day. It's fantastically located by the Rue d'Abesses which has lots of bars and good food establishments (particularly recommend the steak on a chopping board from the restaurant just on the opposite corner to the hotel). Also not the biggest bathroom but it was clean and the shower was better than you get in most household bathrooms so more than adequate.

Breakfast simple but effective and a small way to keep the budget down.

The hotel provides free internet access which is very handy. Although minor weirdness with one of the computers having a weird keyboard.

I wouldn't say this is the hotel if you're looking for a romantic weekend in Paris and plan to spend a lot of your time in the hotel room but if you're looking for a good clean, well located base on a budget then this is just the bloomin' job.
