Location and Access – The hotel is very close to the main SNCF St Jean station with fast connections to the whole of France. For example, direct services to Paris, Lille and Marseille. Close by is a modern Tram line affording access to all parts of the city which is useful as the location is a little remote to some attractions. For example it would take over an hour to walk to the Cite du Vin. There are a few restaurants nearby and around the corner an excellent large Carrefour Market store

Google Earth – The hotel can be seen on Street View

Reception – Check in/out formalities were performed quickly but I did not feel particularly welcomed

Public Areas/Decor – Everything here is in a 1970’s 80’s time warp. The external appearance dominated by faded lime green signage. Guests have no problem finding the hotel - it stands out like a sore thumb! All the downstairs windows having obscured glass with faded pattering. All very worn and tired. The reception had an adjacent sitting area which looked unwelcoming and I didn’t see it being used at all. The breakfast room was reasonably bright and cheery

Guest Rooms – Mine was small with a double bed dominating the space. Hanging space for clothes and a table and chair. As a solo traveller it was OK but for a couple it would be a bit of a squeeze

Decor/Maintenance/Cleanliness – At some time in the past an attempt must have been made to upgrade the room. Every surface had been covered with anaglypta wallpaper and painted. Bathroom fittings old and needing updating. This room was now far from pristine and as far as I could see everything needed to be refreshed. On the plus side housekeeping was better than in some 5 star hotels I have stayed in. Room made up and spotlessly cleaned every day

Amenities including Entertainment – Telephone, small flat screen TV with French and English Channels, good Wi-Fi, complimentary bottled water a few awkwardly located sockets capable of charging personal devices

Lighting – Natural and artificial lighting was very good

Heating/Air Conditioning – No issues

Noise – no noise disturbance whatsoever

Food & Beverage – There is a small bar and breakfast room but no restaurant as such. The staff in the restaurant were excellent at keeping tables cleared and ensuring that the buffet was topped up. The choice, quantity and quality of the continental style breakfast I thought to be very good

Value for Money – A budget price for a very budget hotel

X Factor – Convenient for rail travellers looking to be near the station but other than the superb house keeping there is no X Factor here

The Ibis Styles Gare is a very good hotel, near the train station where I arrived. The hotel is reasonably priced, reasonably modern, reasonably accommodating, and reasonably close to the tram lines. To review more particularly, first of all there were three Hotel Ibis signs that one can see from the train station; so it is very difficult to determine which one is the right one. When facing away from the station, one must walk to the hard right for the Ibis Styles on Tauzia Street.

The breakfast (included) was ample and tasty. However, no one greeted me when I entered the empty breakfast room, but it seems that several ladies should have been there because they looked at me sternly when they discovered me. When I tried to take a cafe Cappuccino, the glass or cup next to the machine was much too small. The coffee overflowed the glass. I threw my hands up in exasperation. The clerk at the front desk who could see me from the desk came and showed me that they were big cups already on the table. C O I K. Of course, if I had seen the cups on the table as I walked in or if I had been greeted as I walked in, I would have known that I could get a cup from my then yet undesignated place.

The room is well furnished and well provided, although the lighting leaves something to be improved.

Because I needed to leave at 4 a.m., I was glad for a 24-hour front desk. However, the desk agent was often doing something in the area near the breakfast room. The staff was, nevertheless, polite and professional.

We spent 7 nights here, found staff friendly enough, breakfast is ok, sleep was ok in room, we did have a couple of hiccups, a few times the room card did not work, and we had to change rooms after a couple of nights, but this was sorted very quickly, by the young lad on reception, the second room (305) was very roomy. The location is good, a few yards from the main Railway station, trams and buses. One thing is being British , I do like a nice cup of tea, alas the rooms do not have tea/coffee making facilities, and no bottled water. Although you can get bottled water at reception for 1 euro.

We booked this hotel a month in advance for our upcoming trip to Bordeaux. The reason that we booked this hotel was its central location and the reasonable pricing for the bookings that included breakfast. Our trust in the Accor hotel group was an important factor that shortlisted the hotel on our choices. The hotel photos promised a nicely decorated clean room and our expectation levels were minimal levels of comfort with reasonably comfortable and very clean rooms (which is how I would define Ibis brand).

When we arrived at the hotel, it looked really derelict and the area didn't seem to be nice with lots of buildings around it under construction or semi demolished. We went inside hoping that it is not as bad as it looks from outside. The reception staff welcomed us in an efficient manner. They didn't mention anything about the welcome drink that I was supposed to be offered due to Accor All Silver status – there was no mention of the status but the staff offered something immediately when we mentioned this.

As soon as we got into the room, we realised that we don't want to be in this hotel anymore. The room was tiny, a double bed and no place to even put your luggage or stand. The cleanliness was questionable; the windows and curtain full of dust, four flies dancing around, black spots on the walls and mould in bathroom surfaces. We tried to convince ourselves that we can stay here for "just" three days for 20 minutes but it became clear that we were hoping for a nice comfortable stay, not some room where we would be on the edge worrying about cleanliness and health.

For this reason, for the first time in our lives, we packed our stuff, went back to the reception and said we are checking out no matter what but we would appreciate some refund at least for the nights that we didn't stay. The receptionist was kind enough to listen to our concern and agreed to pass our complaint to the hotel manager.

A few hours later, the hotel manager emailed us saying that since we have a non-refundable booking, the hotel is not obligated to pay anything but as a token of goodwill they will refund half of the cost if I can send my credit card details. Stupidly enough, I sent my card details and still have not received any of the promised refund. The manager doesn't respond to the emails for a confirmation of the refund anymore and I changed my credit card details since the hotel completely lost my trust.

Considering this experience, I cannot say anything good about this hotel apart from friendly and understanding reception staff. Avoid it if you can.

It’s hard to write a review for a budget hotel you don’t have high expectations for as it’s just what it says it is - a budget hotel. However this place was bad. The location is ok, it’s near the station and close to down town. The neighbourhood is a bit rough but we didn’t mind that too much as we only stayed two nights. It’s the hotel itself which is just awful. First of all there is zero atmosphere in the place. They couldn’t have chosen more soulless decor if they tried. The landings outside the rooms are dark and miserable and the rooms themselves are so small it was like sleeping in a tiny cell. The twin beds in our room took up the entire space. I had no bedside table. Then there was the tiny window, like a porthole. I felt so claustrophobic, I could hardly sleep. Then there was the totally over familiar, cheeky receptionist. She checked us in, all fine. Soon after check in we went back down to reception to say the tv wasn’t working. She said she would come to have a look. However when she came it was to verify that the tv actually wasn’t working! She disappeared and then came back a few minutes later, marching in without knocking. She said we would have to move rooms as she couldn’t fix the tv. I said we wouldn’t bother. The following day the same girl made such a big deal trying to reactive my key. She did so at reception but when I tried the key, it still wouldn’t work so I had to go down again. I was made to feel stupid! She came up with me, carrying a little machine and she reactivated the key somehow and at the same time behaved in a very offhand manner, like she went out of her way. The following morning though, her behaviour took the biscuit. I was exiting the building while she was dealing with a customer but she saw me and beckoned me with her index finger! I asked her what she wanted and she said she needed my Covid vaccination certificate. I showed it to her of course. It was peculiar as my husband had passed her a few minutes before but she didn’t ask for his. It was most odd. I could not wait to leave this place. It is uncomfortable and gloomy.

This hotel is excellent for a short stay in Bordeaux. The hotel was clean and well kept. The room was adequate for a 4 nights. Breakfast was plentiful and the hotel offers gluten-free bread. The staff were friendly and helpful. The hotel is 150m from the main station which also serves as a transport hub for 2 tram lines and several bus routes.

Check in/reception/breakfast was fine.
Room 125 was horrible. Poor condition, air conditioning not working, Bathroom door doesn't close, damaged door, black mould on bathroom walls ceiling and tiles. Shower flooded bathroom floor. Not a healthy environment to stay in. No matter how old a room or building is there is NO excuse for black mould to this extent. So far the Accor group have given very poor customer service regarding my complaint. I do not recommend using them.

The location was good, but the interior was neglected. The room was nothing like the photos. The bathroom was dirty, hair in the shower, the toilet had horrible brown markings at bottom. The wall in bathroom had a bottom piece missing. The description of the room mentioned air conditioning but set on heating for the whole building and could not be adjusted according to front desk. It was 18-22 degrees outside during my stay. Asked for a fan, none available. Tried to change the room could not do that either. Dirty outside at the entrance of the hotel. Windows dirty as well, just look neglected. The floor was dirty and even with daily cleaning of the room, it did not improve. Breakfast was good, although the quality of coffee was shocking. The staff was friendly and helpful. Not a good experience during a four day stay over. After this experience I doubt I would book with Ibis again. The cleanliness and maintenance are serious lacking.

We booked an ibis hotel and didn’t know that there were 3 with almost the same name by the train station. We thought we arrived at the right one at 9:30 at night with kids but obviously we were wrong.

Let me just say that the receptionist was beyond rude. I can just tell she wanted to be rude. I’m pretty open minded but I just sensed she was being racist.

She absolutely refused to help us. She just said that we weren’t at her ibis and there are other hotels. That’s it. We kept asking her to look at our phone and see the ibis email so maybe she can figure is. Nope! She just stood there. We had to drag our bags around to the other one until we found the right one.

I just can’t believe how an employee can represent a brand and just refuse to help. She even knew we were at one of the other ibis hotels.

They really need to do some diversity training at these locations. We did find our correct ibis hotel and the receptionist there was very welcoming! I guess you will always have a few bad apples in the bunch.

My partner and me stayed 3 nights at the Ibis Styles Bordeaux Gare St Jean.
It is a good hotel with lovely staff.
The room was clean and well air-conditioned.
Breakfast was excellent. I would definitely recommend this hotel, use the tram to go into the City Centre as it is a long walk.
