A hotel of 2 parts I think. Very quiet at weekends so loved getting a free upgrade to a junior suite ( downstairs bedroom from an entry level mezzanine). During the week this is a busy business hotel I gather.

As it was quite quiet it was possible to talk to the (always, it seemed) on duty manager Laure who was so friendly & helpful in recommendations in the city

The room was comfortable, quiet & well equipped. Breakfast was good. Good experience because I had recently had a couple of less good Mercure experiences in the UK recently. Mercure clearly better on their home turf

The hotel is quite easy to find but the area has bad traffic in Friday evening rush hour (where doesn't). If you have a car you have to go to outside parking- underneath the main rail station opposite. This is quite a cramped car park with a tricky to find entrance (best check on arrival with reception) that cost 29 euros per day

The area of the hotel, because its by a station, felt a bit shabby & I didn't find the nice areas until later but the station is excellent for city public transport so quite a good choice overall

A chain hotel where the staff made it seem more like an independent over the weekend. Excellent choice if you arrive by train, maybe less good if by car

My wife and I stayed here for one night at the beginning of September 2022. Hotel is newly renovated - we could smell the fresh paint. Hotel was clean and modern and out ensuite bedroom was spotless. Hotel is almost directly opposite the railway station but we were not affected by noise. The better parts of Bordeaux are within walking distance but the city centre is probably a mile or so away. Buffet Breakfast at the hotel is ridiculously expensive (€18) when you can just cross the street to a number of cafes and get a coffee, orange juice and croissant for a fraction of the price.

Dear Daisysnicks, Thank you very much for your comment following your stay at Mercure Bordeaux Gare Atlantic I'm in love to read you've appreciate the position of the hotel and the modern decoration. About the price of the breackfast, 18€ is the price of the all you can eat buffet, with a lot of different items. We have a second breckfast menu with only hot drink, orange juice, croissants, bread, jams and butter for 8€. Hope to see you soon, Kind regards, Guilhem, Votre contact privilégié au Mercure Bordeaux Gare Atlantic

We stayed here for seven nights and really liked everything about this relatively newly built hotel. The location is excellent for tram and train connections and whilst the area is a little bit ‘rough around the edges’ this hotel is the best option in the area. The area around Gare St Jean is not like Gotham City pre-Batman, it just has a few people who linger in the area who it is best avoiding, which is easily done.
Our room was spacious, had great air conditioning and sound proofing. The bed was lovely and comfortable and the room was furnished nicely. The shower was amazing.
We had breakfast each morning and the quality and selection of the food was good. The lady who looked after the breakfast buffet most mornings was always friendly and helpful.
The trams in Bordeaux are very good and as this hotel is next to a tram stop we found getting into the city centre took about ten minutes. Another big bonus if you choose this hotel.
We enjoyed our stay and loved Bordeaux!!!

The hotel staff (short and curly haired lady) in the reception wasn’t helpful and always gave us a blank stare when we were talking to her. She didn’t seem to understand English and made no attempts to provide any further help when asked. Firstly, when we told her that the phone in our room is not working, she just gave us a blank stare and said all phones are not working, is ok. She kept giving us a blank stare, so we gave up and had to live with needing to come down for every single thing we need because the phone wasn’t working. Secondly, for breakfast, they make you fry your own eggs, which is ok. But they serve breakfast until 11am during the weekends, and when we came down at 10.15am and there was barely anything left. There was only 1 egg left, and when we asked for more, she said that there’s no more and walked away. How could there be no raw eggs?! That’s the most basic thing. They need eggs for every dish and it’s highly impossible to not have any raw eggs left! The eggs are the only thing we can eat for breakfast as the rest are just bread. She insisted we eat the pre-mixed scrambled eggs instead, which of course we had no choice but didn’t really like. Next, when we asked her for help to get a taxi, we told her this one hour in advance. But when the time came for us to leave, she dismissively said to wait for 1-2mins. We waited for 5 mins, and when we asked her again, she said just wait for 10 mins and the cab is coming. We waited for 15 mins and still no cab! All she said to us was that they’re having a circulation problem. And all the time she was speaking to us in French, when she already knew we couldn’t speak French! I tried to use google translate but whatever she was saying, even after translation, still doesn’t make sense (logically). In the end, we just booked an Uber ourselves and we got the car in 2 minutes!! She could have just informed us to get a Uber instead of just muttering things in French which we didn’t understand. Really ruined our 3 days there and our impression of Bordeaux! Thankfully we moved to a different hotel and the difference in service level was stark! Our new hotel and experience with their staff made whatever time we had left in Bordeaux more enjoyable.

Never stay in this hotel if you don’t speak French. And if you want to have a good time in Bordeaux, stay away from this hotel!

Dear GlobeTrotting427400, Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback about your stay at Mercure Bordeaux Gare Atlantic. We are sorry to hear that your stay with us was not up to your expectations. At Mercure Bordeaux Gare Atlantic, we pride ourselves on providing exceptional customer service and it is disheartening to hear that a member of our team has not met the high standards of service our guests have come to expect from us. We strive to be warm and welcoming in all guest interactions, and we apologize if that was not your experience. We understand that language barriers can make it difficult for our guests to get the best out of their visit, so we take care of ensuring our reception staff is adequately trained in both English and French languages. Unfortunately, it appears as though this did not meet your expectations during your visit this time around. Thank you again for bringing this situation to our attention; we take all feedback seriously and will use it as an opportunity to improve the quality of services offered in order to ensure a better experience for all future guests. Stayed 2 nights here either side of a flight from the airport and both stays were lees than good. The second stay was in a classic double room which resembled a cell with no window just a very small skylight window, the bed was a basic double, the furniture dark and flat pack, there were 2 electric sockets in the room---one just inside the door near to the ground and another containing the kettle, there were no toiletries other than soap so no shampoo or conditioner, shower cap or a small bottle of body lotion and since we had just come off a flight we had none of our own.
The worst problem was the lack of choice at breakfast as the hot food consisted of scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon and since we do not eat meat we were left with scrambled eggs and lots of bread and pastries etc., when I asked about fruit I was directed to a small fruit basket containing a few apples, a BLACK banana and a tired whole pineapple which I would have had to attack myself. When I tried to speak to the staff about the poor choice for breakfast I got nowhere , I even suggested we were not charged for breakfast but got nowhere hence this review.

Level of service more appropriate for a two stars hotel than a four stars;

The room hasn’t been cleaned in the last 48 hours nor towels were replaced.

Yesterday (end of the year’s eve) we came back at 03.45 am and the persone in charge of the night shift was asleep;

nobody answered the bell and we had to call by phone SEVEN TIMES to have someone answer and let us in;

he did non even care showing up to apologize for letting us wait 20 minutes freezing outside, just opened the door and that’s it.

Rooms are cold, AC is self-limited to 21 degrees but I do not even think that is the actual temperature in the room; when we told to the receptionist that room was cold he just did not care and told us that he had no solution to our problem.

Not a positive experience at all, only positive points are the breakfast and the position of the hotel.

The Mercure Bordeaux Centre Gare Atlantic is an ideal location to stay at if you have a lot of luggage and / or want to stay close to the Gare St Jean station for convenience. It is right across the station within a 2 minute walk and offers express check in and check out services. Rooms are well appointed and spacious, and apart from good air conditioning (which is a must in summer here in Bordeaux with temp reaching over 40 Deg C!), the hotel also has an elevator which is a welcome feature for those traveling with luggage.

In addition, the staff are very friendly and helpful and went out of their way to ensure that we had a great stay (special shout out to Vicky for all her help - you are truly an asset to the hotel) and will even help you make reservations and guide you with detailed instructions and maps. All in all, a great place to stay right at the station and well connected with both bus and tram to the rest of the city.

The location of the hotel was very good - it was opposite the station. The trams to the main tourist area were very close. Check in was fairly simple. The room was clean and a good size with air-con. Cold drinking water was provided. The shower room was clean with shower gel and hand soap provided. Good quality towels. The self-serve breakfast was good however there was nobody available to help with the coffee machine so we had to go to an office to ask. The person who came to help was rather brusque unlike the friendly receptionist.

Very pleasant brand new hotel opposite Bordeaux Saint-Jean station with a chic and relaxing ambiance. The rooms are comfortable and well designed. The bathroom is modern and the oversized shower offers a relaxing experience. The breakfast is high quality. The amount of hot items is a bit limited but everything is carefully prepared. The buffet has many gluten-free items. The Saint-Jean restaurant has very good dishes and wines. The staff was very helpful and made everyone feel welcome. I will definitely visit this hotel again when I come to Bordeaux.

This was a very nice hotel conveniently located just across from doors into the main train station in Bordeaux. The room was extremely comfortable and had everything we needed. The staff was very efficient and friendly. Finally, given its location across from a very busy transportation hub, it was fairly quiet.
