Located very near the river, within walking distance of restaurants, bars and small specialist shops in the delightful Chartrons district of Bordeaux, also close enough to the tram stop if you don't want to walk. There is an underground secure car park nearby which is quite expensive but worth it for peace of mind. I was a bit worried by some of the reviews about this hotel but I would definitely stay there again
A modern hotel with some quirky items in the reception area and bedrooms
Our standard King Room was spacious and comfortable - it also had a fridge and safe.
The bathroom had a walk in shower had hot water when we needed it. Good size and quality towels.
Plenty of plugs and charging sockets in our bedroom
Breakfast had a good selection of food and drinks. This was served on the top (7th) floor with a view of the city/river.
A couple of minutes walk to CAPC Tram B stop - c10 minutes ride to/from Hotel de Ville
Pros: the staff is very friendly, the room is in line with the expectations made when booking (I had requested a bright room with large window), the bedding is very comfortable. The room is spacious and beautifully decorated. The tv screen is big, and it’s worth noting! It’s not that common. Washing products (shower gel, milk, shampoo conditioner...) are of good quality.
Also, the location of the hotel is good: possibility to rent bikes on the platforms just in front, lots of good restaurants nearby, 2 steps from the tram and the center of bordeaux.
The Air Conditioner works from the fire of God (almost too much!)
Cons: cleanliness is to be reviewed in the toilet, it is not normal that it is full of pie, it makes a really bad impression ... also, it is regrettable that a bath set is not available (cotton upper / cotton makeup remover) as in most hotels. Too bad the minibar does not offer anything to snack on. Also, since the reservation was made for two people it is surprising that only one bathrobe set was provided in the bathroom. Also, elevators are long to relax .. do not be in a hurry!
Finally the price of breakfast is scandalous! 23€ per PERSON per day? So a couple breakfast costs 46€ even though the neighborhood is full of small cafes that offer delicious pastries. This breakfast package system should not only be revised downwards, but also in its very nature: we are, for example, small eaters and a coffee, croissant and juice is enough for us to start the day. Too bad not to enjoy the hotel because the prices offered are unsuitable.
In conclusion, you can book this property perfectly, but in order not to feel like paying an inadequate price, keep these things in mind.
The breakfast was frankly a disgrace, no food left at 08:30, poor staff, lack of care and very poor service, it was shocking.
On departure I spoke with the manager and shared my thoughts and concerns, they offered me a free breakfast at €23.00.
I'm not a serial reviewer or complainer but honestly, if you have another option please follow it, Bordeaux is one of my favourite cities, vibrant and full of adventures it deserves hotels far better than this one.
Stayed at the Mercure Mondiale Centre-Ville Bordeaux hotel.
We had chosen this hotel for its highly acclaimed; rooftop bar, breakfast area and views across the city. We were extremely disappointed to discover upon arrival that these amenities were temporarily closed for refurbishment and further upset that the hotel failed or let alone attempt to update their website or contact us or any other guests prior to arrival..
Adding to our disappointment was the noticeable strong aroma of fresh paint that spread throughout the hotel. The strong paint smell made it challenging for a restful sleep. Would have been comforting had the hotel taken sufficient measures to mitigate the impact of the paint odor on guests comfort.
The newly renovated rooms were also another letdown. The ambiance was dark, dim and creating an atmosphere reminiscent of a basement rather than a welcoming accommodation. The craftsmanship appeared very poor, with noticeable signs of rushed workmanship. Am not even sure why they missed the toilet roll holder and mirror left on the floor
While I acknowledge that hotel renovations are a necessary part of maintaining quality standards; effective communication and minimizing disruptions are paramount. Unfortunately, the Mercure hotel fell short on all counts in thay regard. I do hope that the management will take this feedback constructively and make improvements to their communication strategies and service quality going forward…
Additionally, we did send an email to HQ on the above, but yet to receive any response or acknowledgement from their end. This lack of communication further compounded the frustration and disappointment…
I must mention that the hotel staff members were polite and helpful throughout our stay, which was a silver lining amidst the overall underwhelming poor experience…
On arrival the air conditioning was not working, I called reception to report the fault and they assured me it would be repaired. I reminded another receptionist as I left the hotel for dinner and again I was assured it would be fixed. On my return the air con had not been repaired. That night I could not sleep as it was unbearably hot and if the window was opened there was the continuous sound of heavy plant running.
At 9.10 am there was a knock at the door and an unannounced air con engineer arrives and changes the a/c filter, for 3 or 4 minutes the a/c worked, but on returning in the afternoon the a/c has stopped again. 2 more assurances were provided that it would be repaired failed and another miserable hot stuffy night with next to no sleep ensued.
I complained about my experience at check out and was introduced to the manager who told me there were no alternative rooms as the hotel was full. Lie!! My friend had arrived that day and had been provided a room with a/c. She also advised me that she could not offer financial compensation as I had booked via Expedia. Which I don't comprehend.
Finally she offered extra points if I joined the Mecure loyalty scheme. I advised her that I certainly was not going to join and in fact after this dreadful experience I would never stay in the Citi Mondail hotel or any other Mercure hotel ever again.
I am 70 years old and have travelled extensively in Europe and the US and in all that time I have never experiences such dreadful sleeping conditions and totally appalling customer service.
Avoid this hotel at all costs.
Quality amenities and very good bathroom.
Breakfast varied and correct, in a super pleasant environment but nothing particularly unforgettable.
It's not super centralized: it's about 900m from the center on foot or, if you have a transport pass, there's a station just a few meters away, meaning it's easy to get around.
"Parking was underneath the hotel €20 per day. It took the stress out of looking for parking close to the hotel."Read full review
