Well located near to Gare St.Jean, on the tram line and very close to the riverfront. Good value for Superior Room with a very comfortable bed and sleep, trams a great feature rather than a disturbance. WiFi fine. The only issues were (1) really tatty, thin paper non-recyclable cups for tea/coffee that could not really take boiling water and those awful plastic beakers for water. Surely, Mercure can stretch to some china mugs and proper glass water glasses and a dishwasher? Also, no real milk just a single tiny creamer. The only other issue was we had to call reception to replace the shower gel as it had run out on arrival. Mercure generally do need to step up on quality.

I had a pleasant stay at Novotel Bordeaux Centre Gare Saint Jean for a weekend-trip to beautiful Bordeaux. The room was clean, although the terrace could have been cleaned a bit better, especially the plastic chairs. Great service from the staff made my stay a pleasant one. The hotel being close to the train station makes this a great location for exploring Bordeaux. Big thanks to the team at Novotel.

We arrived at the Novotel gare saint jean, Bordeaux with realistic expectation of a four stars hotel experience. Comfortable room with excellent costumer service. We were unfortunately in for a surprise.

We were greeted by an intense smell of sewer in the room. A very small toilet where we could barely sit with what looked like an old western saloon door.

Toilet brush missing:

After informing the reception, the stuff brought us a dirty toilet brush at the reception and hand it to us to carry back to our room.

Room cleaning:

We were presented with the option to pick the room cleaning days at our arrival. We picked every other day and for some reason the intermittence was totally misunderstood. The room was not cleaned when agreed. Once again we went to report to the reception. We were promised that someone was at least going to empty our trash can, bring a clean set of fresh towels and two vouchers for free drinks at the hotel bar because the cleaning time was far gone which we accepted. Unfortunately stuff never showed up to pick the trash nor with the set of fresh towels or vouchers that evening.

Bath drainage malfunctioning:

Clearly not functioning properly. Water filling the tiny shower floor which is about 0.80 inc or 2 cm and if not shut immediately to wait for the slow drainage to actually happen, the water will spill over. Beside that, the shower head covered with limestone etc…

At the end the management gifted us a package of their body care product for the inconvenience.
If hotel stars still mean anything I do not believe we had a 4 stars or even a 3 stars hotel experience.

When is a confirmed reservation not a confirmed reservation?

Over 2 weeks ago I made a reservation for this hotel in September 2023. My booking was confirmed and payment was taken. I have now received a telephone call to tell me that there has been some (unexplained) error, the hotel is fully booked and has been for weeks and they will not be honouring the booking. My money will be returned.

I explained that I have a confirmed reservation and that they should find an alternative hotel and meet any difference in cost. That was dismissed.

Fortunately I have managed to find 2 rooms in a nearby hotel for an additional €100. I am waiting to hear from the hotel about whether they will pay me the difference.

Problems will happen. It is how you deal with them that counts.

Negative points : tuna and fries was too fat, there are better fries in Macdonal's or Burger King. That's not a fresh food. I'm very dissapointed from a french restaurant and hotel like Mercure. The table and the dishes were not cleaned during breakfast.

Hotel is great… lobby/breakfast area is modern and well set. They have games for kids (puzzles, books,…). And the tram stop for Lines C & D is next door!
But the best part is the staff! Amazing and kind, always available with a big smile… they offered us drinks because the room was not ready yet (we arrived around 1:30pm for a regular checkin at 3pm!)
They offered advices on where to go and what to do…
We only stayed 1 night but we felt really good and welcome!

We had a pleasant stay in this hotel.
Great location - close to the train station and few steps from the tram stop. Good neighbourhood, walking around the church Sainte Croix is recommended.
The room was very comfortable. Bathroom was of a good size too. It seems to be normal that toilet and bathrooms are separated in France.
The hotel bar offers a good selection of wines.
The receptionists were kind and helpful. They require to block 80 EUR upon arrival but then any drinks from the bar and the city tax are set off from this amount.
Overall a very good hotel. I would recommend it.

Accustomed to Novotel comfort, we were very disappointed with this one; parking 15.50 euros almost obligatory given that the street is dedicated to the tram passing under the windows and an uninviting area, traffic in the parking lot very poorly indicated; very comfortable bedding but hotel is aging and not clean in certain places (elevator, carpet in the hall, maxi teddy bear in the hall which is not very hygienic, etc.) Quality of breakfast to be seriously reviewed: undrinkable fruit juices, tasteless pancakes... vmc on the roof makes a terrible noise that we hear from the dinner terrace; very cheap terrace with plastic seats, plastic roof, menu of a Weekend desk offer without choice and carafe of water planted on the table without any other offer even with supplement We we won't come back! Unworthy of its stars and the Novotel label

We stayed two nights at the start of a cycling tour. Hotel is convenient for Gare St Jean, about 10 minutes walk. It's right next to the Tauzia tram stop. Easy walking distance from the main sites and the trams are fantastically convenient and easy to use.
The staff were most helpful and friendly.
