Detailed Reviews
Our favorite aspect of the Normandie Hotel in Bordeaux has to be its location - right on the wonderful Tram route and directly across the street from the Bordeaux Tourism office where the staff happily shared information on train/bus schedules to Arcachon and the famous Dune du Pilat. The hotel is also located within easy walking distance to the Cite du Vin, the Bourse (and the stunning Miroir d'Eau) and shopping on St. Catherine Street.
The staff at the hotel is friendly, the beds are comfortable and the rooms are clean. Highly recommend this affordable hotel!

The location and staff at the Normandie were excellent but I'm afraid I couldn't really say that my experience lived up to the four stars on the wall by the entrance. My room was not a four-star room. We all know that hotels only display the best aspects of the property, but on this occasion the difference between what was offered in the pictures when booking, to the reality, was rather misleading. It was cramped; the wardrobe was a kind of battleship grey, the door was a bluer shade of grey and the door to the bathroom (which itself was modern and stylish) was a sort of sickly cream that nevertheless went well with the tired wallpaper (the colour of which was a sort of off-nicotine). The floor sloped. I wouldn't put the breakfast at much more than adequate and I've certainly had better at lower-rated hotels. One of the reasons I chose this place was because of its high rating. I caught a glimpse of the room next door and it was indeed light, modern and airy as promised. So maybe I had bad luck. But the hotel didn't appear to be full so I'm disappointed they ended up giving me such a poor room. If I stayed again (and I wouldn't rule it out), I'd certainly enter into some kind of negotiation to make sure I wasn't allocated room 309 and wasn't going to end up feeling, frankly, a bit ripped off.

I was given a very small room which was like a box. Although the bathroom was OK. It's very noisy as it gives onto trams and busy streets, with a lot of people chatting. Even if the windows are double glazed. I was unfortunately woken up at two and four in the morning by drunken people coming back into their rooms, this was a Friday night. The breakfast is ordinary, the staff is perfectly welcoming, the decoration is not very pretty, but it is very clean. The bed is comfortable. There wasn't enough toilet paper in the loo but I managed! It's perfectly OK for a business trip, but I wouldn't recommend it for a romantic holiday.

Perfect location. Right in the center of the city. Walk to almost anywhere or you can use the city Trams. Major Tram junction right outside front door. Very easy to buy tram tickets at the kiosk located at every tram stop. Hotel was clean, had good breakfast, and staff was very helpful.

Great service from helpful staff. Amazing views and clean and comfortable bed and furnishings. We were looking for a place near the center of Bordeaux and thus exceeded our expectations. Full breakfast with great service. Staff were helpful and the room had quality amenities.

Great location for exploring. There are many wonderful cafes, Cathedrals and transportation near by. Convenient for cruises. Can be a bit loud at night if you face the street. Fun vibe. Friendly staff. Plentiful breakfast buffet. The room was spacious and clean and the bathroom is large and modern.

The first room we stayed at was a disgrace! Very very small and low ceiling (1st floor), commercial neon lights over the bed board and the writing desk. Old carpets and blankets, but clean. The bathroom again, spotless claen, but no toilet! After a very short search we found it in the wardrobe!
The location is fantastic with one flaw - there is a night club right opposite and the entire night we were woken up by nasty alcohol fueled arguments and fights.
Next day we complained, but nobody apart from us had heard a noise. Sure. But nevertheless we moved on to a nice normal sized room which was absolutely ok for what we paid for. (And a toilet where it belongs!)
Upon check out we mentioned, that we have not been very happy, but nobody seemed to care. An American gentleman, who had overheard our conversation, waited for us by the door and said, that the hotel is so well booked, that nobody cares anyway.
We will be back to Bordeaux - beautiful city, great shopping, wine, food. Enjoyed the dinner at "La belle Epoque", a brasserie close by. We will not return to this hotel.

This will be my third night in the hotel. The first morning I woke up and thought I had a mosquito bite on my face as the room has quite a few. The next morning, I noticed bites on my legs. I was pretty annoyed. Now this morning, there was a bed bug on my pillow. I put it in a ziplock. As I was getting dressed, I saw two more on the bed. I added those to the ziplock.
I went downstairs and reported my findings. The people at the front desk were very apologetic, offering to clean my clothes and change rooms. Ok, good.
I am here on business. Shortly after arriving at the business location this morning, the hotel called saying it was urgent they speak to me. The manager informed the front desk that he would not change my room nor clean my clothes as I was the one who brought them in. Are you kidding me?
So I had to shop today for all new things because I have to throw my belongings away. . I tallied up my loss, over $1,000. They don't care. All they have to do is put my things in the dryer for a half hour. Nope.
The bed is not comfortable either. The Internet connection is terrible
So tonight, my last night, I will be sleeping in the bathtub

My wife and I stay regularly at this hotel and most recently were there in May of 2011. You can certainly find hotels with a three star rating for less money in Bordeaux, but they won’t be as centrally located so it depends what you’re looking for. The hotel is in the center of town and thus close to several good restaurants, rue St. Catherine (shopping), the Office de Tourisme where you can book a variety of tours, including those of the wine country. We usually book one of the “grand confort” rooms which puts us on one of the upper floors and find that choice works well for us. The staff couldn’t be more helpful, the breakfasts are very good, and the wi-fi works fine (even on the top floor - someone else said it didn’t work well - that was not our experience)

We stayed for 3 nights in the Normandie in Sept 2003. No complaints at all about the hotel, nice room, good staff. I can't remember exactly how much we paid but it was a good price. We booked through the Bordeaux tourist office we have really good weekend packages with a choice of hotels, and include a city tour, free bottle of wine and tour of vinyards and tasting. Well worth the money for the package, and I would stay in the Normandie again.

I didn't used . I think they have ,because hotel is big
I think about 26 euros.
Take the tram towards Cite du Vin, (buy a day ticket) and walk back along the river. The bus tour was also good for giving an insight into the history of Bordeaux - tickets on sale at the tourist office. Commentary was in excellent English. Brasserie Orleans, close to hotel offered good value menu, great service as well, spoke good English.
