Buckatree Hall Hotel is nestled in a tranquil location that hikers find ideal, although the rooms often disappoint due to maintenance and cleanliness issues. While some guests consider the rooms spacious, others are let down by problems such as heating and untidy conditions. The staff's friendliness is frequently praised, but inconsistent service and housekeeping shortcomings have marred the experience for many. The hotel's value is a point of contention, with several travelers questioning the quality received for the price paid. Amenities like breakfast receive applause, but erratic provisions and dated decor leave much to be desired.

For those who say this Hotel is like Fawlty Towers, this is unfair of you and unjust to Buckatree Hall Hotel they like many others are doing their best to get back to normal after the pandemic.

How much did you pay for Bed and Breakfast yet you expect a 4 or 5 star hotel.

One person states the staff are rude that has not been our experience we are just back from staying three nights and found the front of house staff very polite and friendly as well as being very helpful. Only one person was rude and that was dealt with.

On the first night we had dinner it was excellent I just had fish and chips and peas with mint. The Cod was excellent the chips fresh home cooked chips. Let down one inexperienced server who did her best however she needs more training and support not left to sink or swim.

Breakfast is buffet this could be improved by putting less out and replenishing as required. I asked for two fresh fried eggs as I did not want the ones on the hot plate under the lights it was not a problem I got my eggs fresh and my wife asked for poached eggs again not a problem. Two days the breakfast was table service which was very good. The bacon is exceptional.

There is an issue with housekeeping we had to ask for a toilet tissue
The hotel knows housekeeping is an issue. The rooms outdoor furniture goodness knows when it was last cleaned. The railing are dirty and in need of painting. We had no toilet soap also no toilet brush as house keeping do not clean the bathroom daily their needs to be a toilet brush

The bar ran out of snacks crisps and nuts I would have nipped to get some for stock from local store before have nothing for guests.

There is a new Operational manager I hope he turns the hotel around.

Outside the front entrance the disabled parking has not been redone on the new drive and a walking group took up all what was the blue badge parking spaces with no thought to the disabled. There is a parking issue and folks fall out due to no parking bay markings.

Our room was clean and yet needs work it is tiered as are many hotel rooms as they try and recover from the pandemic.

This is an independent Hotel not part of a large chain of hotels.

Ring direct and ask about offers and or deals.

A return trip to this small independent hotel. The rooms were well equipped with iron ironing board and hair dryer as well as a kettle and tea and coffee. The breakfast was self service with cereal, yoghurt, fruit salad offered before a great full English. The staff were very helpful and friendly. Sitting on the balcony overlooking a lovely pond with the wrekin as a back drop and watching the night sky proves a lovely way to unwind.

Don’t book this hotel
There seemed to be an issue with the booking upon arrival, so this delayed our check in.
We booked a room with a scenic view and got a room over looking a car park and a field, went to ask the receptionist if this was classed as a room with a scenic view to which she responded no it wasn’t… gave us another room, to which the view this time was the main carpark and the road and a bit of the garden, and because we can kinda see the garden it’s classed as scenic.
How this hotel is rated 8/10 I really don’t know.
It’s dated and smells musky.. the shower curtain is a cheap flimsy thing from pound shop.
After a day of travelling we wanted to have a meal,
Well the sea bass was a tiny thing and was a bit crispy and the fish and chips was a very small portion for £18.95.. had to go and find someone to ask for napkins and table water.
We wouldn’t stay here again.

My mother and father had their 20 years vow renewal at the Buckatree, and I have to say we were all extremely impressed. The renewal took place outside, where once finished, drinks were served to the guests. Once inside the room was set up beautifully and just liked they had requested. They also had a grazing board which was absolutely fabulous! Nothing was too much for the staff and an amazing time was had by everyone. A special thank you to Lauren who helped arranged this special day. It couldn’t have gone better. Certainly a day to remember!

Booked a friday evening via the buckatree website and after looking at the extensive menu phoned to reserve a table for 7pm. We arrived at the hotel around 4pm got our key went to the room, ok firstly the room very shady wires coming from the ceiling, half the lights didnt work, coffee tea ect very limited, booked a kingsize bed well we must of grown because it was more a double sized bed, went down to the bar waited a good 10mins before we were served, sat outside with our drinks to notice a lot more shady wireing all over the building, the senic pool well i would use that term lightly there were bottles in it looked dirty and sadly no seating provided, the tables that are outside have very uncomfortable seats and a glass was smashed while we were there and the glass was still there in the morning ready for another wedding to take place, went into resturant at 7.10 after being told it isnt ready yet another 5mins, looked at the menu had 4 options of starters and mains priced at £18 per main we decided not to eat there and ordered a delivery the driver told us when he arrived i come here all the time no suprise there for us, some staff rude others trying to do to much to keep the place running. Its a great shame that the place is so run down and all we could hear around us was the same complaints, breakfast in the morning starts at 8am we got down at 8.20 no mushrooms left sorry then to be told sorry we have run out of BREAD with a hotel full and more people coming down. Will look for somewhere else next time.

We stayed for 2 nights, the communal areas are clean and nicely decorated, we avoided using the lift as on our arrival other guests were struggling to call it, a member of staff offered to run up the stairs to send it down then instructed guests to “keep pressing the button, the doors will open eventually”. We chose to avoid using the lift and saw several guests giving up on it when they couldn’t call it, in fact I did not see anyone use it and noticed elderly guests struggling with their luggage down the stairs so clearly they were also avoiding using it.

We had a scenic view room with a balcony which over looked the hotel pond and adjacent farm land it was very pleasant just a shame that the pond and outside areas in general require some TLC the pond has a water feature but it didn’t work, the glass, privacy panels in between balconies was cracked on both sides, we could not lock the balcony doors, we were not concerned that anyone would scale the balcony and intrude but felt guests should be able to lock them, we informed reception on our first morning and was assured maintenance would take a look whilst we were out for the day, that evening we discovered we still couldn’t lock them.

The rooms are a nice size and have everything you need (bar plugs on the wall by beds) but they are tired, both headboards were extremely stained, wallpaper pealing off the wall, bathroom door handle loose, loo handle & flush temperamental, paintwork in need of a fresh coat of paint, cobwebs on lampshades above the beds and on ceilings throughout the room/bathroom, bathroom floor mopped (we presumed for our arrival) but looked like it needed a good clean, kettle had rust stains on internal bottom plate. Linen and bedding immaculate.

Breakfast - You have to pre-book a slot, our first morning a young man seated us he asked what hot drink we would like but failed to tell us what the service was, he’s shirt was stained with food he was not well presented, he disappeared and we were left waiting not knowing if breakfast was table or self service 10 minutes later our hot drinks arrived. We asked about service and discovered it is self service. Good selection of hot food items, cereals limited choice, second morning croissants were also available.

A small point but something Iv never seen in a hotel a DIY tip box at reception which I found odd.

Excellent parking available & great location for walkers, no more then 30 mins car ride to local attractions the Ironbridge museums.

Overall the hotel has potential. it felt a little neglected, it would not take a lot to get it where it needs to be just a little TLC and attention to detail, we felt there was not enough staff available whether that was due to Covid pinging or not we don’t know.

Photos of room and concerns raised available but unable to upload

I’d give 0 stars if I could.

This is the worst hotel I have ever stayed in. I was booked in by work for a week And we were treated like they wasn’t getting paid for our stay. We booked in for dinner at 6 every night, they would take our order then it would take until 8:30/9 to be finished. People would come and go, eating 3 courses while we were left there for hours just waiting. The same happened at breakfast there was a buffet style breakfast that other customers were aloud to help themselves to, but we had to tell them what we wanted and they would get it (usually after 40 minutes). The tea and coffe was usually cold and the tea came from a dirty pot

The food was terrible, most of it came out the deep fat frier or the microwave and most of my group had bad bellies at some point through the week. The general hygiene of the restaurant was atrocious, knives and forks were dirty Most of the tea cups were filthy and the little jugs the milk was in had old milk around the top of the jug and smelt off.

My room had just a tiny roof window, it didn’t shut or lock and outside was the extractor from the kitchen so between about 0600 and 2200 the noise was bad and the smell of grease coming in through the window made the room and all my clothes stink. the paper was peeling off the walls with black mould underneath it. light fittings were hanging off the wall exposing the wires behind and the Spot lights above the shower had fell down. and the shower doesn’t look like it’s ever been cleaned

I went to reception to ask to move rooms but was told no. Then through the week I witnessed other guests ask to move for reasons like “the tv doesn’t work” and we’re moved instantly without issue.

I will never go to this hotel again, if it’s booked by work again I won’t go. And my recommendation would be to avoid at all cost.

From the moment you step into this hotel you will be met with problems. We were given a different room to the one we had booked, we were then given a room where the heating didn’t work. We were then offered a room that had not been cleaned from the last guest, they just changed the sheets on the bed. When we were finally given a clean room with heating we discovered another couple had also been given this room. The man was incredibly embarrassed when he let himself in to what he thought was his room only to find my 16 year old daughter inside. Rooms are in desperate need of maintenance and televisions cannot get a reception, that is if you are lucky enough to find a remote to turn the television on in the first place!
The night we stayed the fire alarm went off repeatedly at 4am, there were no fire evacuation procedures or staff around to advise guests what to do. Guests were left in reception to wait for the owner to drive from home. The man who arrived was rude and aggressive. My daughter and I packed our things and drove home at 4.30am, we had had enough. I phoned the hotel later that morning to speak to the manager but was told he had left for a meeting and they would ask him to call me back, never happened.
This could be a lovely hotel but it is being destroyed by poor management. Guest experience is unimportant to them once they have your money, you’re never going to see it again! If you decide to visit, I doubt you will return.

Perfect location, we came away feeling recharged, only real problem with this hotel, housekeeping as you could see the dust on the chairs and balcony was full of cobwebs and floor hadn't been cleaned, maintenance work is required in the room toilet roll holder hanging off, some lights not working in the room we stayed, ladies toilet sink are all cracked and really do let the hotel down, housekeeping in the dining room also chairs and table legs have a build up of dust.
Overall our stay was lovely with a spacious room, the hotel is old and in some areas dated but that adds to its character, staff were very friendly and nothing was to much trouble for them. Would we return yes we would
