Detailed Reviews
When booking a £39 room, it is best to think that you will not receive a 5 star luxury hotel then you will not be disappointed.
We stayed overnight on our return from Somerset and were quickly checked in at reception.
Please ask for tea and coffee as there are none in the rooms.
Reception infomed us that if any extras were required they were available at reception.
Our room was extremely basic but fairly clean and tidy.
The hotel is on an industrial estate and the nearby main road seems to attract the " Saturday night boy racers " so we were woken up several times.
What do you expect for small money paid?
Not bad.

Okay, so overall, this is a good hotel. It is very inviting, with a clean and modern reception area and restaurant.
The staff really made it for us though as they were REALLY friendly, from the moment we checked in and were really good with my 6 year old son....especially the lady at breakfast time, I wish I got her name (Portuguese lady).
The rooms were nice and clean and were a decent size too. It was nice and quiet, no traffic noise and we didn't hear noise from the other rooms, so can't complain there.
There are just a few things that prevent me from rating this hotel higher:
Our room was like a sauna as there was no air con... Which, is fine, and I didn't expect air con but there wasn't even a fan which would have been adequate, which other hotels tend to provide.
I think because it was so hot and stuffy, the room did have a stuffy/musty smell.
Lastly, my advice is, if you have children, do not pay in advance for breakfast! I paid extra for a breakfast included rate only to find out when I got there that children eat free so in effect, I had paid for my sons breakfast when I didn't need to.
That said, the breakfast was very good. You let them know in advance what cooked items you want and they bring it out to you (though, as a vegetarian, I wanted both fried and scrambled egg but was told I could only choose 1). Then, there is a continental buffet with a huge range on offer.
All in all, good hotel with EXCELLENT staff. I just think if they spent some money on upgrading the mattresses, this would make this an excellent hotel.

I needed a cheap hotel to stay in at Swindon and that's exactly what I got. The hotel vibes are quite dingy and outdated. The rooms are tiny, mattresses are very uncomfortable, hair dryer worked the equivalent to an old man blowing on my head and there's not really anything about the actual place that I thought was wow. Coffee isn't included in breakfast, despite being an open access vending machine. Staff were lovely though, very professional still and were kind to let us have the coffee anyway. Can't expect too much at such a cheap stay though- we paid £38 for a Saturday night.

We visited with our small dogs due to work. We booked for two nights.
When booking online, I entered all bank details and chose to pay ‘now’. When arriving at the hotel, they stated I had not paid- even after entering all this information online.
The room was EXTREMELY small. There is a tiny walk-way around the bed. For two small females, And two tiny dogs, even this was a real struggle. Photos of the rooms online really make the room look much bigger.
It was the small things that were missed:
The did not place the right amount of towels in the room prior. There were no cups/glasses/coffee/sugar. We understand this could be due to COVID. However, we had to go and request these at reception. The amount given was poor. Not enough sugar for one drink let alone two. There were two pillow in the room, and these were so flat, you didn’t know you had a pillow.
The food menu looked decent and reasonably priced. When we ordered food, the portion of nachos consisted of 8 crisps. The restaurant had also run out of sour cream so was just salsa with a few stale jalapeños.
With the the food, we ordered lattes as Hotel sachet coffee is never great. The lattes tasted exactly the same as the sachet coffee and nothing close to a fresh latte.
When flushing the toilet or running taps, gave an awful sewage smell would appear. This just filled the whole room. the room is very cold, even after a hot day. We switched the heating on which, filled the room with an awful burning smell that we were worried we would set off an alarm. The room overall was extremely dusty.
We decided to leave the following day rather than stay another night.
It’s great that this is a dog friendly hotel at an affordable price. However, we would not book here again due to the poor food quality and dated facilities.

This is a review of The Swindon Campanile’s ability to provide an afternoon private function following a baptism. It is not a review of the bedrooms or breakfast as we did not stay overnight at this hotel.
We arrived at approximately 1445hrs and had a private function room which was very nicely decorated. We ate a hot and cold buffet meal starting at around 1530hrs. The cold table was what we would describe as somewhat ‘upmarket’ as it was not all your usual buffet food, some were definitely canapés which were prepared personally by the hotel’s lady chef. There were even small individual prawn cocktails in glass dishes which we’ve never seen at similar events. She certainly knows what she’s doing as it was all very tasty, fresh and there was something to suit everybody.
The hot table consisted of hot lasagne, chips, fluffy rice and a beautiful curry which was perfect. These were accompanied by naan breads and a large bowl of sweet chutney. The curry was not bland but certainly not ‘hot’. To follow there was a selection of gateaux, all beautifully presented.
The staff were attentive and very helpful, always clearing the tables and asking if we wanted anything else. If the breakfasts matched the buffet, you would be very pleased if you stayed at this hotel.
We would recommend this hotel for it’s ability to provide a great experience for an after funeral wake, after baptism celebration, possible business meeting or other similar daytime event. Well done guys, we had a great afternoon.

+1
I and my wife checked in this beautiful and convenient hotel for one night on Saturday 15 February as I was hosting a charity Valentine’s Nite event in Swindon organised by the Hospital’s Goan Staff, Swindon. We had travelled from Southampton and there were enough road signs directing us to the hotel location. There was plenty of free parking in the hotel premises. We could see our car from our room. The receptionist on duty was very friendly and helpful. There are lifts to go to the upper floors. There’s breakfast available for a little fee and there’s a restaurant as well. The room was very clean and tidy and had excellent heating capacity. The staff even helped us to get an ironing board. Definitely will return again. Very reasonably priced. Good value for money spent.

We have used this hotel a few times prior to this stay. The hotel is clean and tidy but basic and starting to look worn in areas. The rooms themselves could do with a good carpet clean and a paint to freshen them up and the beds were super uncomfortable so didn’t have a great nights sleep.

Being a well travelled businessman, I have been in many many different hotels
Location wise, the Campanile is £10-15 cab ride from the station, so easily found. The location itself however is on an industrial estate with not much around.
The hotel in the evening unfortunately did not have a chef so food was limited, dinner options were even more limited so I opted with a colleague to go to the M&S across the road.
The room I was put in was the wheelchair accessible room. There was a dead moth in the bathroom and the shower area was quite mouldy.
Surprisingly I slept relatively well, given the doors and walls were paper thin and my head was next to the entrance area.
Also worth mentioning are the lights, which were all cold bright blue bulbs, not warm white, which doesn't necessarily bother me, but I know many others struggle with lighting before bed.
Breakfast was warm not hot (full English) but relatively quiet.
I would say the staff are warm and helpful given the challenges faced.
If you need a cheap place to stop over one night, then choose this, otherwise, it's well worth putting slightly more to stay in a more comfortable hotel.

Review
I don’t often write reviews but I felt compelled to do so after the disrespectful way I and other customers were treated.
Well, where to start, great welcome at reception and a nice enough room for an ultra budget hotel no bells or whistles but clean.
When I came to eat this is where the problems started. I waited until after about 5 minutes I was acknowledged by a member of staff, I could see there was a group in so understood the wait and asked are you serving food? (bear in mind this group was about 12 people)
I was advised that they would not be able to serve any other guests with food until after about 8pm
I wasn’t best pleased after having been up since the crack of dawn and driving over 350 miles today, I just wanted to eat, have a beer and go to bed.
I asked if I could order from outside and eat in the restaurant, I was told yes then some other people had ordered food and were refused permission to eat in the restaurant and asked to eat it in their room, then the staff members advised they could “sit in a corner” out of sight of anyone as they could not eat anything purchased off the premises.
Finally and to rub salt in the wound what annoyed me more was the fact that the staff that were manning the restaurant were just sitting in the office chatting whilst the group ate. they could have been serving other customers that were willing to order food. And the fact that there was no apology forthcoming all I heard was just “no we can’t serve you until after 8”, I complained to reception and the same thing no apology clearly lacking any for of direction from anyone in charge.
Begrudgingly I left to eat elsewhere, and would highly recommend a pub called “The Runner” excellent service and food!

I walk with crutches and cannot speak too highly of all the staff at this hotel. Nothing was too much trouble and they anticipated my every need. The reception staff, restaurant staff and even the cleaners were always smiling and helpful. Thank you.
Additionally, the whole place was immaculately clean. It was a pleasure to stay.
