Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Service was great. Money spent for one night in a Triple/Family room was good value for money.

Room was clean and comfortable. Enough space for 3 adults and 2 teenagers, though we didn't have luggage (it was a last minute stay on the fly). It could sleep up to 7 people, with luggage it could be quite a squeeze.

Great location, off the main highway and a 5 minute walk to town. We had Nik's Pizza for dinner which was ok. Peppers Cafe is nice for breakfast was nice.

Stayed a night in route. Nicely appointed unit that was very comfortable with good quality fittings. Very cosy and modern inside. Would easily stay multiple nights. Proprietor very helpful. Wet floor shower in modern bathroom.

Stayed a night to break the journey from Hokianga to Hamilton. The room was clean, quiet and comfortable with good cooking facilities and bathroom. It is a short walk from the Wellsford shops and was very good value for money.

We stayed on Wellsford as we needed a place to stay on the way back from Pahia to our stay on Auckland. The Sun Valley Motel was the only place with a vacancy and fitted our price range.
The hosts were wonderful and the room was spacious and comfortable. One bedroom had a queen bed, the other had a queen and a single. There were two singles in the living room.
The kitchen was tiny, but we managed to cook a meal for three adults in it. On the other hand, the bathroom was huge and has obviously been updated recently.
The motel is within walking distance of the town centre and several restaurants.
The biggest downside was that there was nowhere to sit in the living room other than on the two single beds, unless you used the dining chairs! I suggest that the owners replace one of the beds in the living room with a futon/sofa bed which gives another seating option.

My husband and I stayed here for one night as we were passing through but really did not want to leave. The Service was impeccable, Friendly, welcoming. The room was magnificent. Will try to upload new pictures as it has been refurbished. A stone throw to eateries. Totally recommend this place to everyone!!

Having driven across fro the west coast vai the Kauri Museum at Matahope we didn't want to drive back up to Whagarei to spend the night before flying out the next day. There really isn't too much in the way of accommodation and the prices at Waipu and Mangawai were quite expensive when we didn't need a beach and the weather was overcast and grim. So the Sun Valley Motel offered a pleasant last minute alternative. In fact we got the last room available, seven beds for two people! But we were offered a discount and happily took the room. In fact it didn't feel that big and suited out need for repacking our bags etc perfectly. The motel is run by a very friendly couple and a very large and sleepy cat. Although it is only a short walk to the main road and the shops there is very little traffic noise. The beds were very comfortable, nice tight sheets and fluffy towels for the shower. The cooking facilities are a bit minimal, you have to pull out the hot plate, but as there really is nothing to eat in the town other than fried food or a rather expensive restaurant attached to a pub, we bought some stuff at the supermarket and cooked up dinner. Internet is free and no download limits.

Good, clean and comfortable accommodation to break the trip North to the Cape. Staff are friendly and eager to help you enjoy your stay. Please note the supermarkets close in Wellsford at 8pm for on the road supplies.

This is a most comfortable motel to stay at. The Owner's are hospitable and friendly. The units are clean and comfortable with the motel a short walking distance to the towns cafe's and shops. My wife and I stayed one night on our way up to the far north and again on our way back. We would thoroughly recommend this motel to anyone. The motel is studio units with a family unit No 8. We stayed in both on our separate visits.

This is an unpretentious motel, with a good location away from main highway but close to town. Quiet, clean and comfortable, excellent welcome from the manager. A good place to stay on the road north from Auckland. Lovely grounds and friendly cat!
