Grand is the best description of this guesthouse (in the Irish meaning of the word). Centrally located within walking range of everything, pleasant staff, satisfactory breakfast, good WiFi and a separate lounge, all at a reasonable price (€90 for 2 people sharing). Social distancing was challenging given the physical design of the entrance lobby which was also the approach to the breakfast room.

Nice and clean, large room and good breakfast. Very nice dining room, staff very helpful. We arrived on motorbikes so was great to be able to park out the back and gates shut at night. Easy stroll into the town and visit Matt Malloy’s.

I stayed 5 nights at Clooneen House, Castlebar Road, Westport at the end of the summer season.

It is a really lovely warm and cosy traditional-style guesthouse. The room was traditional hotel standard with large comfortable beds with quality white bedlinen, trouser press, wardrobe and dressing table, hairdryer, large flatscreen TV mounted on the wall, ensuite bathroom with excellent power shower and hot water at all times, and a welcome folder with 4 different tourist routes advised for the scenic surrounding areas.

The breakfast room is on the ground floor to the right of reception and there is also a relaxing sitting room available to help yourself to tea and coffee with a balcony leading off it overlooking Castlebar Road.

Breakfast was wholesome, nutritious and delicious and piping hot. To start, you were offered juice and cereal, toast - a big plate of white bread, and traditional brown soda bread, was brought to the table, and then a full Irish breakfast of sausages, rashers, black pudding, white pudding, egg and fried tomates.

Tea and coffee was available and I opted for the big pot of freshly brewed filter coffee was excellent.

The breakfast waiting team are young, cheerful, hard workers and so obliging - they couldn't do enough for you and nothing was too much trouble.

I do not know the names of all the staff, but Hannah and Oisin stood out in particular. They work really hard to make sure all guests are satisfied and ensuring everything is of the high standard of service that guests expect. They're a great asset to the business.

Everything was spotlessly clean throughout the whole guesthouse.

I would recommend to solo travellers and couples and families as you will get a great place to stay at a reasonable price and you are 2 minutes walk from the Mall.

What more could you ask for.

The hospitality offered at Clooneen House cannot be faulted, in my opinion.

No complaints at all about our stay here. All facilities were very clean and rooms were spacious. A tiny bit dated but no different to the majority of other bnbs I’ve stayed in in Ireland. Accommodation is in a great location, and has plenty of parking outside for free (just get a pass from reception). I found this to be great value for a last minute Saturday night booking compared to other prices in central Westport.

I was locked out of my room and the owner told me to sleep in the hallway.

A physical key is needed to unlock the doors and there is also a keyhole on the inside of the door, so I used my key to lock the door whenever leaving orfrom the inside as needed. There was no sign or indication that this was unnecessary or that the door the door in essence auto-locked.

On the second night of my stay I left the room to get water as a staff member had advised against drinking from the tap in the bathroom. As I wasn't locking the door behind me I didn't take my key. Big mistake. I was locked out and the master key wouldn't work due to my own key being in the inner keyhole.

Nobody was working at that hour but there was a number for the owner and he came out not hiding his frustration at being woken at that hour. I get the frustration but it's not the guests fault you don't have a night porter and it set the tone for the conversation. The long and the short of it was that he couldn't get me in to my room and he told me to sleep in the hallway. Having worked in multiple hotels I'm still in shock at the smirks and lack of empathy from him and offering that as a solution. I had to sleep in the hallway and wake up to other guests walking past commenting on me at if I was a bum passed out in the stairwell.

I was let into another room in the morning to use the bathroom and noted that that room had a nob on the inside of the door instead of a key. A simple solution to stop these things happening but at the minimum a sign should be on the door and a solution kept on site. The owner took no responsibility for any of this situation not even offering an apology for having made a guest sleep in the stairwell/hallway.

Other staff were lovely throughout my stay and the above is not a reflection of them.

Very easy to find.
possible parking outside on the road if you're lucky, alternatively just up the road in the car parks belonging to other hotels.
The Clooneen Guest House was very clean although quite old & in need of updating.
I stayed two nights & my room was adequate but the bathroom was extremely small with no-where to put anything like makeup etc.
Room 10 was on the front, noise from the road could have been a problem but I was so tired it didn't matter to me.
The bed was really nice & comfortable.
The full Irish Breakfast looked really nice, I'm vegan so the only option they had was beans on (1 slice of) toast.

When we arrived, there was no warm greetings. An old lady from one of tour group had difficulties in walking and nobody from the staff even offered to help her carry her luggage up to the first floor. We had 2 huge backpacks on our back and we had to carry her bag up for her which is in my opnion bad service from the staff. On top of that the hairdryer was in smoke when turned on for the 1st time which was very dangerous so I had to ask for another one and after 15mins nobody was bringing it so i had to go down to remind since the hotels rules was not to make noise and i wanted to wash my hair before 11pm. The walls were very thin as we could hear the other person on the other room using the lavatory. The bed was extremely too small for 2 person and very uncomfortable, the pillow was not better either. I think the floor was not properly clean as well since I've noticed a splinter on my toe. The breakfast wasn't too good either..quite dry, bacon was extra salty and had no spreads of fruits and joghurt. Had to ask for it. The price of the room is more expensive than the other ones we've stayed which has a better service and breakfast.

We three friends booked into the Clooneen for the night of Ralph McTell's concert in Westport. We couldn't be happier with the experience, at Clooneen, from the greeting at reception, the very comfortable beds (and pillows!) and the hearty cooked breakfast. Clean and comfortable! The guest tea lounge was lovely, too. Easy nice walk into Westport town centre. Highly recommended!
