We were visiting Galway with family and chose the Clayton hotel as we have stayed at other sister hotels before. We checked in online the day before but had to check in again on arrival. Staff were friendly and welcoming. We had our evening meals in the hotel bar and found it quite enjoyable. Our room was comfortable and clean and the floor we were staying on was very quiet despite a wedding going on during the first evening. Breakfast was good but perhaps a little over priced. There was an issue at billing which I raised with the hotel once we had eturned home but this was quickly rectified by Stephanie, who was extremely helpful.

Over the last 16 months I’ve been a guest on business in Galway on several occasions. Loved this hotel and staff are fantastic, however on the last two occasions I’ve been here, three months ago I’ve found vomit all over the side of a bed and a bath full of hair. Got a room change and complementary drink. Didn’t make a big deal out of it. Back again tonight and the same thing a filthy bathroom and bath tub with pubic hair and urine stains on the toilet. At 10pm the hallways were scattered with dirty dishes and laundry, a scene you would expect to see in the morning while rooms are being cleaned. Update Really disappointed to have breakfast the next morning to find a big hair in my fried eggs, don’t expect to book here again.

Booked an executive king suite for one night for a break away with my fiancé. Checked in online before arrival and received an email to say the room would be ready for 3pm, we arrived at 3:35pm to give them some extra time to make sure the room was ready, but no, we were told the room wasn’t ready and we had to wait 30mins for our room. I was not one bit impressed as we had dinner reservations made in Salthill and needed time to freshen up. When we entered the room you could immediately tell it was cleaned in a rush, I had to re-dress the bed as the mattress topper and duvet were bunched up under the cover. I went to make a cup of coffee in the coffee machine and all that came out was dirty water, when looking to see was there any sugar I found empty used packets of sugar, no new packets replenished. Other than these issues the room was lovely, bed comfy and bathroom was fabulous. We used the pool facilities which were ok, clean and warm. Breakfast is not worth the money, we booked breakfast for 9:45, I expected a wait as it was rush hour. I ordered a hot breakfast when it came out I asked for some ketchup and apple juice, I waited 10mins before having to ask a second server, I waited a further 5 mins and when it arrived the food on my plate had gone cold. Overall I wouldn’t recommend staying here if you want prompt check-in, a well cleaned room and a hot breakfast!

My daughter and I stayed for a night last week and couldnt have been more surprised at the wonderful service we received from the minute we arrived to the minute we left. Top marks to all staff. We had a great room which was spotless, spacious warm and comfortable. We had dinner in the bistro bar and were looked after by two wonderful girls who had great enthusiasm and went beyond. Food was terrific and cocktails were really good. well recommend this hotel for fabulous service and with an amazing smile. Will definitely be back. Gina & Roberta

Paid an exorbitant price for the a room that most youth hostels would be ashamed to rent to the public. But before that I tried to check in at reception, which incidentally I had also done online. Took nearly 30 mins to get the key to my room. Waiting 15 mins in a queue and another 15 minutes for the process despite checking in already online. I was told the Leisure Centre was closed and use of a neighbouring hotels facilities was available. In Oranmore a 15 minute drive. Anyhow after the reception experience I was assigned a "Delux Double Room" which I actually paid more for on a booking website. All rooms are standard, buyer beware!!!!! Reception fiasco managed now to the room. I walked down a dank, smelly and filthy corridor. Arrived at the so called "delux" room. DELUX!!!!. Chipped furniture with a Soviet era design. If this hotel was in the Caucasus it would still be 2 stars not 4 stars. Who? And I mean who mislead the public in grading this hotel 4 stars. I spoke with the hotel management about the state of the hotel room I was provided with for the night. I was told they couldn't change my room and definitely couldn't issue a refund, that would allow me book a different hotel. I was stuck for the night or lose my money. I went to the restaurant steaming, and had a nice meal to be honest. The meal was surprisingly good and the waiting Staff were very nice. I got two complimentary drinks because of this issue I had raised with management. This was a nice gesture but didn't compensate for the accommodation standard. On return to the bedroom it was absolutely freezing and there was no hot water in the bath/shower. The air conditioning/heating system didnt work. The hot water did actually return in the morning for a quick shower before I left. The moral of the story is that if you are reading this review and you have seen others rating their experiences in this hotel as excellent. They must be people that really don't get out a lot.
