The Bonnington Dublin offers a stay that has guests divided, with its praised cleanliness and convenient location being overshadowed by service and noise issues. While some travelers find the beds comfortable and the rooms spotless, others are put off by temperature problems and dated decor. The lively bar is a highlight, although the breakfast room's ambiance receives mixed reviews. Opinions on value vary, with some guests deeming it reasonable and others questioning the quality for the price.

The second we stepped into the hotel, the staff was friendly and went out of their way to make our stay the best. You have to put your card into a slot to make the lights work as you enter the room. There was an open closet for the clothes with an iron and ironing board. The room had a comfortable bed with plenty of pillows. There was a table with a kettle to make coffee or tea . In the corner there was a chair. The room was clean. They had a radiator, and we didn't figure out how to work it till the second night, so it was hot the first night. The bathroom was a decent size with a bathtub/shower combo. The towel rack was heated. They had body wash and shampoo. No conditioner. There was a shower cap, hand soap, and lotion . There is a pub / restaurant. The food was really good. The staff was always friendly and the customers were always friendly too. There was a tea room but it wasn't open. There was another restaurant with a bar, but it was also closed since it was January. There is a breakfast room. We opted to eat breakfast there. The breakfast is a buffet style irish breakfast. The food was delicious, and there were plenty of choices. Toast, croissants, bakery items, hashbrowns, poached eggs, mushrooms, and fruits, cheese, and Deli meats, ham (bacon), sausage, pancakes, tomatoes, cerals, baked beans and black pudding. They had water and three other juices plus coffee and tea. They were doing renovation on the first floor, but we didn't hear the construction and slept well. There is a corner store (Central) right next to the hotel. You can buy a bus pass there you can get one day or three days pass. Half a block is the bus stop that will take you to downtown(line 16 or 41). The hotel is 10 minutes from the airport and 20 minutes from downtown. If anyone knows where I can buy the pillows, let me know. The hotel is well price and we definitely would stay there again.

We visited here in a large group. Some of the rooms were not available when we arrived so we had a bit of a wait quite a while after check in time. I was accommodated on level one where I was met with a sign apologising for any inconvenience as there was renovation work ongoing. This perhaps accounted for the stench in the corridor. The room where I was staying had a constant noise outside the window which I could only assume was coming from the central heating.

The food was the biggest disappointment. We had the pre-theatre menu which was lukewarm at best. Some of our group said that after a long wait their food was presented stone cold. We ordered the 'warm' chocolate brownie with ice cream for dessert. It seemed it had been lifted directly from the fridge so was really cold and no ice cream on it. We had to send it back and the next time it was marginally warmer.

On a positive note the bed was clean and comfortable and my room was quite big. We booked the theatre package so there was a bus laid on to take us to the theatre which was very convenient.

Overall a mediocre hotel with less than acceptable food. Definitely needs a lot more work to be considered a 4* hotel.

Brilliant hotel, excellent staff!

My friend and I stayed at the Bonnington 22nd April-24th, and it was almost faultlesst! The room was a good size with a huge comfortable bed and large TV! A fridge was available on request but remember to ask for this as soon as possible as they are very limited. An iron and ironing board was also provided in the room. The shower was very good too.
The location was perfect, there is a bus stop just down the road where you can catch any of the buses and pay €3.30 to get into the city centre.
The leisure facility was also beautiful, clean and relaxing. I thought it could have done with some calming music playing in the background and possibly a side window where you could buy a hot beverage because there were loungers you could lay on.
The bar/bistro downstairs was excellent, the staff were so lovely and friendly, a lady called Katie and two other guys served us and were particularly very helpful with recommendations.
The steak restaurant just next door which I believe is part of the hotel was incredible. The food was lovely and they had a great selection of drinks including non alcohol which I appreciated due to not being able to drink on my stay due to medical reasons.

Faults:
The bath was not cleaned properly on arrival but as soon as I let reception know, the cleaner came back up in good time to resolve the issue.
Our view out of the window was facing a building site. The look of the view did not bother us but the noise did when we were in the room. It was noisy all day on the Friday which was expected as it is a usual work day, I was hoping it would stop over the weekend which it did apart from a bit on the Saturday.
If this would bother you, maybe requesting a room towards the front of the hotel would be wise.
We could also hear people talking from another room, every word of the conversation quite loud and clear.

All in all, amazing stay and friendly staff! Would definitely stay again.

First impressions of this hotel were good, although there is building work going on that I didn't find any mention of when booking.
The problem was that, on a day when temperature outside was 7 degrees, we had no heating in the room. It was freezing. When I raised this at reception, I was told heating was timed to come on at 6pm (in Dublin? In mid-November?), but they would send up a heater. When it hadn't arrived an hour and a half later, I raised it again with reception. On the way back upstairs, I met a guest in a nearby room, who advised his heating had been on since arrival and his room was warm. I went back down to reception, to relay this, and, with no explanation for advising me wrongly of 6pm turn on, I was told someone from maintenance would come to the room. After a further delay, someone arrived with the heater - which had extremely minimal impact in the expanse of the room - and advised radiator wasn't working, and likely this would affect hot water too. Someone else would come in ten minutes. No-one arrived. Another trip to reception.
Eventually, a young guy, who appeared to be from housekeeping, arrived at the door. He felt the radiator and said it wasn't working. I said I knew - I was waiting for someone from maintenance. He said he wasn't from maintenance, but would get someone to come. Thinking someone would arrive any moment, we delayed going to bed, despite being exhausted following a very early start travelling from London. No-one arrived, and eventually we gave up, sleeping fitfully in our coats, to be woken at 7am by noise from the building work.
My husband managed a shower in just above cold water - I couldn't face it. On departure I advised the receptionist I would be putting in a complaint. She agreed it was unacceptable, and would advise her manager, but no effort to get him there and then to resolve the situation.
We stayed for one night prior to attending a funeral. The day we faced was made more difficult by this level of service. I contacted the hotel manager, four days ago, to request a refund of the 133.85 Euros I had to pay on arrival, but have to date received no acknowledgment.
It may be that we were very unlucky to get the room with no heating, but I would suggest our experience indicates guest comfort and satisfaction is not a priority, and this would be true no matter what went wrong. A very dismal stay.

Visited the hotel for afternoon tea & it was probably the most disappointing experience I’ve ever had in a hotel. Afternoon tea is served just off the reception area - it was freezing cold. We asked about heating but nothing was done. There was zero atmosphere - no background music - just noise from reception. The staff were pleasant but very inexperienced, we had to send back the cups as they were all stained & some had chips on them. So that wasn’t a great start. It went considerably downhill after that - 1 teabag in a pot of tea for 3 people. We asked for another teabag but that never came. There were no scones either. We had to constantly go into the bar area to find staff & at one point I became so frustrated that I had to go to the receptionist to ask her to get a staff member to come out to us. I expressed my disappointment to one of the staff members but he just looked at me blankly with no explanation. We just then asked for boxes to take away the food but again were left waiting so I just went up to the reception to pay so that we could leave. The receptionist knew that we had a bad experience but said nothing - not even an apology, oh & to top it off he tried to charge us €35 per person when in actual fact the menu stated it was €27 - we ended up paying €30 per person - no idea how he came to that price but we just paid as I wanted to leave the hotel asap. I was so disappointed as this was meant to be a special family occasion. I had initial thought that we were just unlucky but there were 2 ladies sitting opposite our table & they too had experienced bad service. Lots of staff around but they were all congregated in an empty bar so hardly run off their feet.

We enjoyed the hotel, we have stayed here before, this time we used it as a base to explore Dublin city centre, & its the perfect location. Bus route is literally 3-4 mins away on the adjoining road brining you into O'Connell St & further if needed.
The food in the bar was lovely, we would have liked a few more choices. The room thermostat was fixed on 25 degrees & was very hot, we asked to reduce this temp, the staff were very pleasant & someone came, but problem wasn't fixed. An empty shopping bag was removed from my room, it wasn't in the bin, unfortunately a receipt was in it, and I cannot return the items we bought without the receipt. The attached restaurant was not open during our stay, Mon-Weds in mid Feb. we have eaten there before & it was lovey, so we missed that addition to the choice of foods on offer. The breakfasts were fabulous, as always, with great choices on offer.
we love the hotel & will return in the future & would recommend it to anyone.

I have no idea how this place got four stars. Definitely don’t waste your money here there are better hotels. They open the pool to the public and make you wear swim caps just to swim. I was surprised to see a swim class going on when I wanted to go for a swim. The doors to the rooms don’t close all the way, I had found out a few times when I thought the door was closed that it wasn’t and you have to push hard just to make sure it does in fact close. Some staff was nice. The ones in the restaurants were nice but the ones at the front desk were very rude and made me and my friend felt judged. (Laughed at us quietly while me and my friend went to check in) just silly girl stuff but worth mentioning because it was upsetting. The Wi-Fi was absolutely terrible I had to disconnect and reconnect several times just to figure stuff out which was very frustrating the TV also would go in and out from how bad the connection was. Overall just a bad stay and I wouldn’t recommend it at all

Staff on site were friendly and helpful. Rooms were comfortable. Bar was unattended at 10pm when we went in despite several people in and at the bar. I had to go to Reception to ask where the bar staff were and could they find them Bar and restaurant prices were reasonable. Unfortunately I left my Kindle behind in the room. I emailed and phoned but was told to ring back later. I did this and didn't get the same options as before. This time I was asked to enter the extension number I required. Bit difficult when I do not know the extn. When I first rang they told me they could not send it to me so I said I would arrange for somebody to pick it up for me. Why they couldn't ring me back or email me I do not know. They let themselves down as well as me as I visit Ireland a couple of times a year and the relative I normally stay with has died which is why I am now using hotels.

First time staying at the hotel, previously have always stopped to eat here. Had a 3 night family package break that included tickets to Tayto park, breakfast, use of pool, family pizza night. We had an interconnecting room with 2 adults 4 children.
Pros: rooms were clean and comfortable for us all, bathrooms cleaned each day etc.
Tea/coffee availability in room
Family pizza night was great, food was delicious.
Halloween treat bags for kids was a hit on arrival.
Swimming pool was great.

Cons:
Towels for guests to use at swimming pool should be made available at leisure centre desk not at main reception.
Wi fi is non existent in rooms, really poor connection!
No phone in room to contact reception if needed to and no information on the hotel, its restaurants, times they opened etc
No air conditioning which on a hot day wld be uncomfortable

My main concern for this hotel is that anyone from outside can gain access day or night and walk through all the hotel corridors. This is due to the emergency exit between the main reception and thr leisure pool entrance. This door was never locked, no key card access needed. This really worried me and should be addressed and access only via key card for additonal security.

My concerns are minor other than security but overall this is a great family hotel, close to dublin and m50, food was delicious throughout the stay and would stay in future and highly recommend to others.

I don’t know where to start only word I can use to describe this places is shocking from start to finish. It started when we walked in I booked a room with a city view and we got a view of the people staying across from us my partner then went to the bar and when he came back up his key wouldn’t work in the door We decided to book a table for dinner and as we were heading down we seen elderly man having the same problem with his key. As we went to the restaurant for dinner we were left standing they sent us between the 2 bars because they didn’t have a table for us the service was terrible and the staff were rude. We finally got served and the food was horrendous we could hear other people around us complaining too I had the burger and it was as tough as leather it was burned and difficult to eat my partner had the fish and he couldn’t eat half for it. For the price we were paying the food was not what it should have been we finished off our night with a drink in the other bar the only word i could use to describe the bar man is incompetent. Over all not a great stay the pool was okay but the hall between the pool and steam room wouldn’t entice anyone to stay. They could definitely improve I’m many ways starting with getting a better staff. Other guests we talked to had the same experience and said the same thing

hello, I'm sure you'll enjoy every moment of Dublin. There is a bus station with a few lines over the city, a few steps from the hotel. it's easy, you can buy tickets at the supermarket next to the hotel. for the whole stay. u can also order taxis, certainly more expensive but worth especially at night. have a wonderful stay. A super place to visit is called little Dublin, special museum. don't miss it.
