The Mayson hotel is celebrated for its stylish and chic atmosphere, with guests often lauding the modern decor and comfortable furnishings. While the hotel's location is a hit for its proximity to the city center and local attractions, opinions on value for money are mixed, with some travelers criticizing the overpriced amenities and small rooms. Room cleanliness receives accolades, but noise and maintenance issues are concerns for some. Service quality varies; despite praise for attentive staff, instances of slow service have been noted. The hotel's amenities, including the gym and pool, are generally well-received.

The hotel is brand new and decorated beautifully. The double rooms are tiny however and there’s no sound proofing between rooms, we could hear people talking all night. Also we were woken the next morning (New Year’s Day) by an extremely loud jet power washer working on the front of the hotel. No chance of a lie in here! Didn’t feel very relaxing.
Also the previous night, having arrived we asked about food in the bar. The lady told us that their kitchen was not open until later in January. We were a little annoyed as we didn’t have loads of time to spare before getting to an event. What she failed to do was direct us to their rooftop restaurant, which WAS serving food (as I just found out when I read a review on this site!). The staff need to give more information to the guests rather than leaving them to figure it out when they’ve travelled and just want to eat. Nevermind we went and spent our dinner money in Ruby’s opposite the 3 Arena instead. Trendy and modern hotel but not overly welcoming.

Thanks for taking the time to review our hotel. Our small double rooms are set within a steel beam framework and featuring large glass facades, flooding the rooms with natural light. The corten steel frame compliments and celebrates the industrial heritage and architectural character of the Docklands, while the glass surround floods the building. However, I note from your review that you did not like this room - perhaps on your next visit you might try one of our stunning SuperRooms which are located within the original facade of the warehouse, the interiors are inspired by this building’s industrial beginnings. With exposed brick and large windows, the rooms are filled with natural light. I greatly appreciate your feedback, as it will assist my team in becoming better at what we do. It is my desire to retain you as a satisfied customer and I look forward to hopefully welcoming you back again in the future. Please contact me personally before your next visit to The Mayson as I would be delighted to personally extend some of our renowned hospitality. Kind Regards Russell Hadley General Manager gm@themayson.ie

I chose to stay here for a 2 night stay as it is literally a 3 minute walk to my office in Dublin and was not disappointed. The layout of the hotel was fluent and classy.

The rooms:
If you want storage space for your belognings then this isnt the place for you. The rooms can appear small but are built to function as much as possible. Nice touches with Marshall Speak , Dyson Hairdryer and Smeg Fridge.
The bath towels are lovely and fluffy, the showers large enough but it does lack the basics like a bigger bin in the room and sink toiletries you would expect when paying at this end of the scale.
The bars on Thursday night were heaving with a DJ providing great vibes.
The gym in the basement level was extremely competent with the kit provided along with state of the art screen assisted cardio machines and a spin studio too. Also a Steam and Sauna available to residents of the hotel.

I did have some problems with my first room on night 1. When I spoke to Concierge they were quick to rectify in a very professional and courteous manner.

In the words of Arnie..."I'll be back"

Myself and my boyfriend stayed at The Mayson from Thursday 10th to Tuesday 15th September. Oh my gosh it was amazing. We have stayed in so many hotels in lots of different places but we both agreed this was probably our favourite holiday to date. They thought of everything - the bathroom mirrors are done so the the inner section never steams up, they have smeg fridges, nespresso machines, dyson hairdryers and Marshall speakers in the rooms. The tv was a smart tv so had all apps including Netflix, prime video and all 4. The only negatives were that our view overlooked construction that started at 7am on weekdays and was very loud, but if you stay here over the weekend this will not bother you. Also if you book the small double room there isn’t a wardrobe or any storage for clothes but they do provide hangers and coat hangers next to the TV so can’t complain as ‘small’ double means ‘small’! They used the space well. The shower was a lovely waterfall one and the room had beautiful decor. In fact the entire hotel had amazing modern but retro decor. Perfect for instagram!! The hotel has a rooftop restaurant, a ground floor restaurant, a pub and a coffee shop. The only place we didn’t eat at was the pub as we couldn’t get a table and it is only open on Fridays and Saturdays. The view from the rooftop is amazing and the ground floor restaurant elephant and castle has lovely decor. The staff are lovely and helpful, and the gym staff were especially nice, giving us a tour of the gym and showing us how to turn the bubbles on at the pool. The blonde man who checked us in also checked us out and he was lovely, I didn’t catch his name but I’m sure the hotel can pass on our thanks :) The pool area is beautiful, it is heated and has jets so it is basically a massive jacuzzi! The town centre is about a 15 minute walk away along the river but you will need to get taxi’s to places like the Guinness store house and Dublin zoo (both a must see!!) as they are about an hour walk but 20 minute taxi. Overall we would 100% stay here again.

Hey Irina, Thank you for taking the time to share such a great detailed review from your recent stay with us. I'm delighted to read that both yourself and Max enjoyed your time with us and got to experience all aspects of The Mayson. Your review sums up a lot about the hotel, from the small details in the bedrooms to the retro decor throughout, our different bar and restaurant options and of course our extremely popular relaxation pool and gym space. Our hotel is ideally located for those looking to rediscover Dublin. We are a just a leisurely stroll from the City centre or with bike rental available nearby, Dublin and all its attractions are at your fingertips. We look forward to welcoming you both back again in the near future. Warm regards, Matthew matthew@themayson.ie

Hard to know how to rate this hotel. We stayed one night and the location is great. The staff were lovely and the room clean and the bed comfortable (as it's a brand new hotel, this what you would expect). The common spaces like the bar and restaurant are pleasantly designed. On the downside, the room was so small that the bed is against the window so one of a couple will have trouble getting in and out of bed. There is no place to put your suitcase and you can't unpack because there is NO storage space, full stop. No drawers, no shelves, no desk. There are just a few hooks on the wall. It is curious with so little room that there is a tray full of overpriced alcoholic drinks on the small space next to the bed. So you can mix yourself a cocktail (with no ingredients besides the spirits) and sit on your bed? I also hated facing a shelf full of snacks while in bed. The bathroom is a decent size but you won't be able to put on your makeup there as the lighting is so bad. Rooms are only somewhat soundproof. There is a lack of signage or instructions. We had to disturb the cleaning staff (who were very helpful) to show us how to put the card in the slot for lights and how to open the window. No idea how to operate the famous Marshall radio. No instructions for making coffee with the Netspresso machine or that the coffee is complimentary. Power plugs are few and in awkward places. You couldn't plug in the hair dryer without dragging the cord across the blessed drinks tray. Should be plugs by the bedside and under the TV. One of us is a coeliac and both the bar and the restaurant had poor choices and the staff had to keep checking to find out what was gf. They will need to address this. We won't be coming back unless we can afford one of the larger rooms.

I greatly appreciate your feedback as it assists us in becoming better at what we do and what we can offer our guests. My husband booked a weekend at The Mayson as a treat for my 40th birthday. We arrived to a beautifully presented hotel which didn’t marry with the hostel-like check in experience. Other than explain where our room was located and that all food & bev in the room would be charged if consumed, we received no other information and none was pro-offered. We stayed in the Kelly Suite and it was beautifully presented with stunning views of the docklands. My husband then divulged his disappointment and annoyance as he had booked a birthday surprise package (balloons and bubbly) for me on arrival but nothing was waiting in the room for me. We ate in Elephant & Castle and they stuck a candle in my paid-for ice cream and two staff members very awkwardly sang the first two lines of happy birthday before sloping off mortified.

On return to our room on day 2 we discovered housekeeping had not been, and as they’d given us a very rationed 2 x teabags and 2 x nespresso pods for our refreshments tray, (not one complimentary bottle of water to be found) I rang down to reception and was told as part of their covid safe programme they weren’t freshening rooms during your stay but I should have received a letter explaining that (we didn’t) and then a staff member knocked on our door to point to a letter on the ground outside our door (which wasn’t there when we came back but indicating same to suggest we’ve been told) with another rationed 2 x teabags, 2 x nespresso pods and some UHT milk in a small paper bag) which we couldn’t help but find hilarious, in a Fawlty Towers way, at this point.

On the morning we were leaving my husband enquired about breakfast options in the locale and he was told breakfast was included in the package for our first morning. Because reception didn’t tell us this when checking in (and also this information was not provided on booking emails received ) and, as we had not availed of something that was included in our stay, he asked if we could avail of this included breakfast today which he was told by a female receptionist a solid no. When we checked out I aired our experience to a guy called Mo who listened and apologised. A discount was applied to our stay. My husband was so upset that his booking for my milestone birthday descended into us being so aggrieved by our experience on check out.

We didn’t feel like we were in a hotel for the entire stay as the service/hospitality arm of the experience just wasn’t there, it felt like we had rented a very nice room through Air BNB.
While I appreciate that the hospitality industry is trying to get back on its feet after this pandemic, a hotel cannot expect its guests to be understanding of bad service compounded in a series of oversights and a general feeling of a lack of will/want over a 2 night stay, especially when a princely and quite frankly overpriced amount is paid for the stay. As I said to Mo, I would never leave somewhere without giving the opportunity to address a negative experience but at that point you’re checking out with the decision to never return. People will remember how you made them feel, not the Dyson hairdryer in the room. So it’s a no from us based on our experience, we won’t be returning.

Thank you very much for your honest feedback on your stay at The Mayson. I appreciate that you took the time to share your thoughts. I would like to apologize for your overall experience and I am very sorry that you were not satisfied with the experience during your recent visit to the hotel. Due to the rising number of covid-19 cases, our housekeeping team do not enter occupied bedrooms to clean the bedrooms daily. Instead we offer to deliver any extra towels or amenities to your room. This is for the safety of our own staff (many are not fully vaccinated) and indeed for the safety of our guests as well. These measures are in line with current government guidelines on the safe reopening of hospitality and is the practise across most hotels across Ireland. As you rightly said, my colleague Mo had applied a discount to your bill with the aim of reinstating your faith in us, so I am deeply sorry that you feel we did not try to resolve the matter. If you do decide to return to us in the future, please contact me directly and will personally oversee your stay. Kind Regards Russell General Manager

I actually feel bad writing this because some of the criticisms of The Mayson are not wholly the hotels fault. Let’s start with the positives. The hotel looks fantastic, the standard rooms are chic, a mix of NYC loft with exposed brick partnered with navy walls and black accents. The town house section is also nice with a bit more of a grand country house look. I would say that a hotel welcome pack in the room, explaining things like breakfast, restaurant, facilities and services would’ve been nice though. The staff were also very nice, accommodating and eager to please. However that can only get you so far here. I’d booked this hotel to have a mix of a relaxed few days away while making the most of Dublin’s city experiences. The pool, gym, bar, restaurant and style of The Mayson really appealed, even though it was about a 25 min walk into the city centre itself. Our first room (a superior double) was as expected, the building site a few metres away was not. All you could hear was loud drilling and sawing. I asked to be moved rooms to the opposite side of the hotel, hoping that would help. We were moved to one of the townhouse rooms, still on the same side as the work though. But slightly further away so it wasn’t quite so loud. However, there was a slightly dusty old smell to the room, every 30 seconds or so there was a shudder as well, like tremors from the elevator shaft or when doors closed downstairs. I’m not sure but it was pretty annoying. Also the hot tap on the bathroom sink did not run hot. We decided to try and unwind out of the room at the pool. The pool is undercover, but essentially outside as part of a small courtyard next to the gym. It had been raining and the floor was flooded with nothing in place to prevent slipping outside. It’s also next to the building work, so again, not the relaxing environment we’d envisioned. The pool was also cold with a foamy layer across the water. I asked a staff member if the heating was on and was told “that’s the temperature it is”. We didn’t fancy swimming for very long. That was basically the straw the broke the camels back. We decided to pack our stuff and leave as almost every reason we booked The Mayson was tainted in disappointment. The chap at the front desk was lovely and did offer another upgrade to a suite and that an engineer was on the way to look at the pool, but we’d made our minds up as it wasn’t about getting a room upgrade and didn’t want to move rooms or complain a third time. For the time being, The Mayson feels very much style over substance, and for the cost of staying there, cracks behind the facade appeared very quickly. We were made aware that the hotel has not been open that long. I think in a couple of years, once the building work around the hotel is finished and teething issues are ironed out, I’d be tempted to try again.

Loved the room so much! We had booked a small double but requested an upgrade as we checked in, so we paid an additional €30 (small double was initially €179) and stayed in a Super Room. The room was spacious, decor was awesome, and the shower in particular was amazing!! Robes, minibar options, Tv & movie selection, bed comfiness.. all amazing!

We had a nice meal in the ground floor bar, and had a few drinks in The Bottle Boy pub. The pub has such a good vibe, like a proper old school Irish pub. I could spend a whole evening here for sure.

The hotel is in a cracking location and it is just so cool. The decor, layout, f&b options, drink menus, everything about it is modern and so fun.

The Mayson made an extra effort as it was our 5 yr anniversary (see photo). Such a nice touch!!

😐
We asked 3 people could we book a table for dinner in the bar/pub for dinner and everyone seemed confused. The manager said the pub didn’t take bookings, the next person said yes, and the last girl advised us (correctly) that while the pub didn’t take reservations, the Mayson bar area did and the menu was the same. We made the booking with her :-)

We popped up to the rooftop at 10ish for a drink and maybe dessert. The guy on the door was super abrupt and said “We’re fully booked. You can have a drink on the ground floor.” There was no question of us being hotel guests or drop-ins and after paying €219 for the room alone, it seemed really rude. Restaurant staff should probably try accommodate paying hotel guests before drop-ins, and he really should have advised us as guests to have a drink downstairs and he could have called us if a table/ bar seating came available.

The food in the bar was good, but the pastry for the vol au vents was super tough and dry. The parmesan chips were literally chips + parmesan and the dishes just seemed a bit lacklustre. My goats cheese salad with chicken was really lovely though!

We tried to order desserts to our room with the girl on reception. She seemed confused and asked would I call her from our room so she could connect me to Ryleighs. This made no sense...

Hi Emma, Wow! Thank you so much for your great review and rating. I'm happy to see you upgraded to the Super room and got to enjoy the space and all it's amenities. It's great that you found the hotel to be cool, fun and in the perfect location. As you said, The Bottle Boy is an ideal spot to spend the evening with a couple of drinks by the open fire. Please accept my apologies for the confusion that arouse during your stay in regards to reserving a table in bar and with ordering room service. Guest feedback is really important to us as it helps us to continuously improve our service and ensure guests are completely satisfied throughout their stay. We hope that you visit us again soon so we can showcase how your feedback has helped us develop the service we offer. Warm regards, Matthew

Stayed here to go to a show in the 3Arena. Only a few mins walk away. Was a bit worried due to other reviews about room size but the super room was perfect for myself and my teenage daughter. The room was stocked with lots of mini bar items, which were on the expensive side and even if I had been tempted to buy a bottle of wine (ranging from 22e to 55e for 37.5cl) you would have needed a bottle opener which they would charge another 10e for! The room itself was lovely and the shower was great. Shampoo, conditioner and soap was provided. Staff were lovely, but still seem to be learning the ropes. I asked for a pink gin with slimline tonic and was told they didnt have either, even though the gin was sitting on the shelf. But am sure these are just teething problems and will work themselves out. Still alot of work being down, and builders are constantly walking through. The carpet in the hall outside our room looked like dirty boots have been walking on it all the time. It has the makings of being a really nice hotel. The views of the Liffey are fantastic and the breakfast in the rooftop restaurant was really nice. Not a buffet which was a nice change! The beds were really comfortable and the down pillows and duvets were so cosy.

Hi Clare, Thanks for taking the time to review your stay with us in The Mayson. I'm delighted to hear that our Small Double room was ideal or the two of you before heading on down to the 3 arena. It's great to see you were pleased with the premium toiletries and the shower, which does receive a lot of compliments itself, our hotel staff and our comfy beds! As we have only recently opened, we have kept a few of the electricians and plumbers in the hotel to deal with any maintenance issues which may arise and ensure guests aren't effected by issues we come across during our opening phase. We look forward to you visiting us at The Mayson again soon. Regards, Matthew

We stayed here on the 10th of January and had dinner in the Mayson bar that evening.

The small double rooms are extremely small! The hotel is not open long but it was obviously a rush job to get it open as there is some construction marks on the wall, the bathroom sliding door wouldn't close fully and the coat hook/wardrobe was very loose on the wall. The clenlisness in the room was average, could definately have done with another do over! There is a bed side locker and narrow shelf in the room but these are covered in alcohol and sweets and treats taking away 80% of the room for your belongings. Kind of felt like you were sleeping in a corner shop. There is also no information booklet in the room with hotel info, and the cost for the many items for sale within the room. The bed was extremely comfortable and the curtains were blackout which is a positive.

We went down for dinner around 5.40 to the Mayson bar. We were then shown our table which was actually in the lobby of the hotel, not too far from the front door. We ordered our food and the starters came with 15 to 20 mins tops. We got chicken wings which were lovely. (There's enough for 2 people in a portion) There was then a wait until mains came out which were burgers but not the worst wait I've ever had. We got beef burgers with bacon but when they arrived there was no bacon in them. We didn't complain as we were going to a show in the 3arena. Food that we got was very tasty. The couple that sat beside us (I assume the same as the 1* review below) who ordered maybe 15 minutes after us waited what must have been 45 minutes to an hour for their starter alone as well as a group of four beside us who waited a long time for their first food to arrive. We were lucky to get in when we did as everyone who came in after us seemed to be experiencing big problems. The wait staff also were very unfamiliar with the drinks available at the bar so maybe a full drinks menu would be beneficial at the table until they are fully up to speed.

The hotel itself is struggling with a bit of an identity crisis in its first few weeks. Half the staff are creating a very chilled back and fun atmosphere while the other half are trying to make it very upper class and notiony. Should pick one over the other as the two together creates a weird mix.

Overall a 2/5 experience but with giving benefit of the doubt of opening month I'll give it 3!

Feedback, like this, has already influenced us to adjust some food service procedures so as situations like this don't reoccur and guests aren't left disappointed before heading to the 3 arena. The Mayson Hotel is located in Dublin’s Docklands
We arrived via the port tunnel it’s a fast and easy way to enter that side of the city, parked under the Three arena and a LUAS stop. We were just two mins walk from the hotel.
We arrived early (12am)not expecting our room to be ready but it was
We chose a super room it was bright and beautiful with lots of extras way to many to mention.
The bed was super comfortable and the very big shower/bath area was really big I had a great shower it was really powerful. I needed an iron so I called reception and an iron and ironing board were delivered to our room. My wife forgot her hair straighteners would you believe they have them too it was also delivered to our door. She said it was one off the best GHD hair straighteners she ever used. She also used the Dyson hairdryer in our room to dry her hair.
We had a restaurant booked in the city for later in the evening but we cancelled after we seen the rooftop restaurant in the hotel.
Ryleigh’s Rooftop Steakhouse
It was perfect so I was very lucky to get a table
Our meal and drinks were served by a lovely waitress she was lovely and made us feel very relaxed. The views were spectacular as we watched the sun go down on Dublin Bay.
The next morning we had breakfast in the ground floor restaurant
Elephant & Castle
We both had full breakfast and orange juice all served up by a smiling waiter as the sun streamed in the window. The restaurant was also beautiful
They also have a bar called
The Bottle Boy
They also serve food we will have to check that out next time 😊
They have a gym and a pool too but it all will have to wait.
Thank you all so much for our lovely stay your staff are all amazing all lovely

We checked out at midday
We will be back!!!!
