Have driven past this hotel many times saying we'd need to try the restaurant so finally booked for a birthday meal.

I am in a wheelchair so liked the fact it's on the level however there is quite a big lip to get over at the main door, no problem for my Fiance to get Wheelchair over but some might struggle. Staff member opened the double door to assist.

Used the accessible toilet, which was extremely clean and in fact the tiles looked like they sparkled!

Large choice on menu and our starters cheesy garlic bread and garlic mushrooms] were served quickly and everything was fresh, including the side salads - no wilted lettuce for either of us.

Main meals [macaroni with chips and battered chicken coujons were just as nice.

All in all it was a lovely meal at very reasonable prices.

Decided on an impromptu dinner last night (Tuesday 04th March) as we'd not visited for years & it didn't disappoint. We were greeted by the nicest waitress (never got her name, but she had short black hair).
She was very clued up on the menu & advised us well on our choices. (Chicken enchiladas & creamy cajun chicken) She even apologised for the wait on our drinks....imo they weren't slow to arrive at all.
Now the food....that came out very quickly & was presented well. Big portions & the nicest hand-made chips we've had. I couldn't finish all of mines & the waitress brought out a fantastic wee reusable container to decant myleftovers in. I had them tonight & they tasted even better!
We will definitely be back again soon & once again have to mention the waitress who was just so lovely, definitely an asset to the place.

Highly recommend The Abbotsford Hotel staff and restaurant for dinner. There were four of us 2 having wine and soft drinks for the drivers. Lots of choice and full experience was fantastic with great care taken by the team to ensure high standards of hand hygiene stations throughout , at arrival and all exit points coupled with stations at the facilities. Dinner was amazing Macaroni cheese is certainly a favourite along with the dine bar dessert served with ice cream very good value for money. Superb service friendly helpful staff and good facilities - all fabulous well done to all the team and of course thank you for a fabulous evening.

You may think you've fallen into a time warp arriving at the Abbotsford hotel, the outside looks like a 50s motel, and the room decor is very dated and rough around the edges with scratches, bumps and marks on walls and furniture.

The tea and coffee facilities were good, and the Tunnocks tea cake and caramel bars a nice touch. As a family of 5 it's rare to find a hotel that accommodates us well, and we were able to have an interconnecting room with bunk beds, plus a single in with a double in the main room. The doors open by a key from the outside, but didn't have a locking mechanism from the inside, which made me a little uneasy for my younger children, so I blocked their door with a suitcase to prevent them being able to leave the room.

The room was a decent size, had good facilities, and I wouldn't have any issue staying a few days given the size of the room.

The breakfast really was the highlight of the stay. We booked directly though the hotels own website and booked a room with breakfast included.

The cereal selection was relatively limited, but the hot breakfast selection was excellent. My children all had pancakes, which were delicious and fluffy. They could choose a selection of toppings and were very happy. My husband paid the £3 supplement to upgrade to the large breakfast and all the components were tasty. I had the savoury French toast with bacon, and although they didn't have any maple syrup the waitress did bring me some golden syrup for with them.

So although the hotel was a little rough around the edges, we enjoyed our stay and it was perfectly located to visit Hill House.

I stayed overnight with a number of family members and friends (16 altogether) for a wedding in Dumbarton and the hotel was great. The staff were lovely, even the man on the desk who I (jokingly) threatened to report for not allowing me and my friends access to the bar after it had closed....he took it well! The place is spotless although the rooms could benefit (slightly) from a lick of paint. Ample parking in the huge car park. The breakfast was decent and restaurant staff were lovely and we couldn't fault them.
All in all it was a very pleasant stay and I wouldn't hesitate to book it again.

I cannot praise the Abbotsford highly enough. I was staying there accompanying a friend in the Golden Jubilee Hospital. I was very stressed, not least from having stayed three nights in a horrible dive in Clydebank, and every single member of staff at the Abbotsford made things as easy and comfortable as possible, even when I (and another friend who stayed there briefly) constantly had to change my check-out date due to my friend's condition. Nothing was ever a problem. The food in the restaurant is excellent too. It also really helped this "hick from the sticks" in the Borders that there were signposts to the Abbotsford on the surrounding roads. It is easy to find anyway but that was so reassuring and such a help.
It was quiet, too, which I really needed. You lose a bit of light in the rooms looking out on the fence (even numbers) but I didn't mind. It's a bit pricey, but honestly I didn't care. In the circumstances comfort and unpushy friendliness was what I needed.

Stayed here for 3 nights as part of a golfing trip with friends to the Open at Troon. Perfect base for the golf and Loch Lomond. Great little hotel, very good breakfast at very reasonable price, really friendly staff, comfy bed, very clean and tidy and excellent value overall.
It could do with a bit of a refurb, floor squeaks and windows not double glazed means there is a little road noise, but absolutely not complaining - for the price it is a gem of a place.

This is a family run hotel which is evident from the outset as it is obvious that staff are invested in the place. We received a warm welcome on checking in and the staff, in general, have to be the most friendly I have encountered in any hotel; each as helpful and friendly as the next!

The evening menu provided a good/varied selection and service was impeccable. Similarly, great breakfast served by a lovely lady so compliments to all catering and restaurant staff.

Finally, the room/, bathroom were immaculate and the bed/pillows very comfortable so hats off to the housekeeping staff! I also enjoyed the complimentary teacake and caramel wafer biscuits which made a change from the usual shortbread.

Beware when you book, the rooms on the website do not reflect what you get. Our room was in a poor condition and looked nothing like the pictures on the website. The TV was on some sort of stool/table below the level of the bed making it basically unusable, the bathroom looked like it had a semi recent overhaul but to a poor standard, no bedside tables or lamps, just generally a really poor standard of room. I was torn between here or the premier inn up the road and in hindsight I should have went with my instinct and chose the premier inn as it was the same price, but I thought when looking at the website pictures this hotel seemed the better option but I was completely wrong. The only reason I never gave the hotel a lower rating was the breakfast, the breakfast was absolutely fantastic & the lovely lady who served us was amazing, her customer service was exceptional, a real credit to the hotel. I did highlight my issues to the receptionist upon leaving but was told I must have got it wrong, when i went onto my phone to show I was in fact right I was told there will be something within the website that says it’s in the T&C’s rooms may not reflect the images, I expressed my concerns at this and also emailed as there was no manager available to discuss it with, I am still awaiting a response to my email 6 weeks later, safe to say I don’t think I will be getting one but that’s fine, lesson learned and I won’t book again.

This is not a modern hotel, but it feels cosy and comfortable with very friendly staff and delicious cooked breakfast. Our family room is spacious and surprises us with 2 showers and toilets. Great value place to stay and a great base for us to visit Stirling, Loch Lomond and Glasgow.
