Irene went above and beyond to ensure I was comfortable and provided for when I arrived early in the middle of a storm. She took me out to a lunch event and I met some lovely local people and ate a hearty bowl of soup - and pudding! And cake! I can’t recommend this place enough, such kindness and generosity. Comfortable, clean, cosy, a lounge with fantastic views but most of all Irene made the stay memoravle

We received a very warm welcome at "Clearview." The scones and tea making facilities were perfect after the day of cycling. We enjoyed the freedom of the visitors lounge. The breakfast was delicious and the accommodation could not have been cleaner.
I would definnately recommend a stay in "Clear view"

We stayed at Clearview for 4 nights. The owner, Irene, couldn't have been more welcoming and was very helpful with tips about the island. Her recommendation of the Balallan Bistro was spot on!
The house has wonderful views and parking on the property. Balallan is right in the middle of the island, so a great base for seeing everything - we travelled top to bottom over our 4 days.
The full Scottish breakfast was absolutely delicious! Our room was cozy and we had a spacious private bathroom just opposite. We were there when the Queen died, so were happy to be able to watch some of the coverage in the comfortable lounge. All in all we loved our stay at Clearview and would happily book again if we are lucky enough to return to Lewis and Harris in the future.

Irene welcomed us to her pleasant accommodation with scones, teacakes and biscuits. The rooms were spotlessly clean, comfortable and perfect for a one night stopover. The ensuite in our twin bed room is small but then met our needs perfectly. Irene cooked us a hearty cooked breakfast with delicious sausages and black pudding.

Our family of five stayed one night while cycling the Hebridean Way. This made a good stopping place after crossing the Clisham Pass. Irene was a great host, the rooms were very cosy and comfortable, and the breakfast was excellent. The view from the house is spectacular and something very special to wake up to.

Whenever the Outer Hebrides are part of our Scorland tours, there is but one B&B on Lewis that we have kept returning to ever since 2008: The Clearview.
Every single visit with Irene and Norman was special in its own way. Be it the welcome, the weather they ordered for us, the sitting and talking in the spacious living room, the sharing of pictures taken and trips on the isles to be made...it always felt so much more like visiting with friends than like being in just another B&B along the road.
The Clearview is located ideally for exploring Lewis and Harris, quite centrally between the two main ferry harbours. The main tourist sites are within easy reach, be it North or South, as are the more secluded spots on the island where no tourist coach would ever go (and which are hence even more worth a visit) and for which Irene is quite a source of information, too.
And after a peaceful night in the spotlessly clean and cosy rooms and well fed with the great breakfast Irene provides you will be more than set to take the tour in either direction.
What made the stay this summer a little special (in more than one sense) was the fact that my girlfriend fell ill during our stay on Lewis. Not only was Irene very helpful providing information regarding the nearest doctor and how to get there, she also catered well for the poor lady who had to stay home and in bed for the day. In fact, with the care she received we were able to continue our travels with her being back on her feet and able to enjoy the rest of our trip without further interruptions just two days later.
Thanks again, Irene and Norman. Even with the mentioned "interruption" our stay with you was yet again a time to remember. And we will be back again...and again...and again. Promised.

...from the window of the living room at the Clearview B&B was one of my first impressions of the Isle of Lewis in Summer 2007 after arriving by ferry.
Planning my third trip to the Highlands and Islands and searching for accomodation within easy reach of the ferry terminals in both Stornoway and Tarbert I contacted several B&Bs on Lewis and Harris.
The very friendly and personal reply I received from Irene Mackay of the Clearview as well as its location made my decision easier and so I booked in for the two nights I planned to stay on Lewis and Harris.
The B&B is beautifully situated on a hill overlooking parts of Baile Ailein and the mountains and is an ideal basis for exploring the island(s) of Lewis and Harris.
The house is comfortably furnished, the rooms are either en-suite or have their respective private bathroom. I enjoyed the comfort of two different rooms (since I returned to stay there yet again just this summer) and I couldn't say which one I enjoyed more since they were both so well equipped.
Irene is a fantastic host. Welcoming me with a nice pot of tea, some cookies and shortbread and providing me with plenty of suggestions about where to go and what to see during my stay made me feel so much at home there from the very first moment.
She also showed me some phoptographs of her suggestions to make my making decisions easier (or harder, since there is so much to see and I had so little time).
The breakfast was beyond compare and left me well supplied for a long day of touring. Upon request packed lunches were also provided and delicious.
The living room is open to all guests so that you don't have to sit in your room alone in the evening if you don't want to, but can exchange ideas and suggestions with both hosts and fellow travellers and add a perfect ending to a perfect day on Lewis and Harris.
Returning in July 2008 I was welcomed with the same kindness, friendliness and warmth that it felt so much more like visiting friends than like arriving at "just another B&B on the way".
In conclusion all I can say is this: I have seen quite a few B&Bs during my Scotland trips. But there are very few that I am this anxious to return to yet again. And trust me, I will. See you there.

Very nice B&B, room was spotless, fluffy towels and we were given a very warm welcome. Great location for our cycling, slightly set back from the main road, lovely views.
The owner gave us a lift to the local restaurant which was very kind, and much appreciated after a long day on the bikes.
Excellent value for money.
Food was outstanding as was the friendly service.
Highly recommend

My friend and I stayed here for two nights in May 2018 whilst walking The Hebridean Way. On arrival we received a warm welcome, together with much-appreciated tea and cakes. As evening meals are not served here, Irene and Norman gave us lifts to and back from the nearby Loch Erisort Inn where we had dinner. Irene also offered to drive us four miles to the start of our second day’s walking from Laxay. On both days we enjoyed a good breakfast which set us up for our day’s walking. The twin room we occupied was a little on the small side but clean and comfortable; there was however a spacious guest lounge with a television.
