Craig Tara Holiday Park receives mixed feedback from its guests. While the location is appreciated for its beach access and scenic views, some guests have voiced concerns over insufficient nighttime lighting. The lively atmosphere is a draw, yet the noise level has been a point of contention, disturbing the peace for several visitors. The rooms, unfortunately, garner criticism due to cleanliness issues and maintenance problems. Although the swimming pool is a highlight, general cleanliness and service quality seem to fluctuate, leaving many to question the value given the high costs associated with their stay.

Arrived Monday 28/6. Booked prestige caravan (number 11 dunure village) check in was between 2-3pm. Arrived around 2.40, went straight to caravan (no queuing at reception due to Covid) cleaners was still in caravan. 15 mins later they left. Had to sweep and clean floor again (it was still dirty) windows covered in bird poo (had a family of seagulls living on caravan roof all week) curtains ripped in living room, no shelves in fridge & still dirty, Bluetooth speakers didn’t work either. Checked in on the app and advised we had arrived (gave it unsatisfactory review) 30 mins later got a call from reception regarding this. Advised of the issues I had. They sent someone back to clean caravan (I had already done this myself) said they were waiting on new fridges arriving & said someone would come to see about the Bluetooth speakers. Maintenance popped round a short while later, couldn’t be fixed, was giving a portable speaker instead. Weather was fantastic the full week which made this holiday even better. Ate out in Brigs of Ayr restaurant which was lovely. Great service, great good and reasonable priced. Got an Indian takeaway delivered onsite one night (from Ayr India) it wasn’t the greatest but gave it a try. Swimming was great- we managed to book 2 days for this. Didn’t do any of the entertainment, felt more comfortable in the caravan making our own. Enjoyed a nice relaxing drink in new pub area. The beach was great especially with the weather, went on Tuesday night (the hottest night) kids got covered in sand as they do went back to caravan to get showered only to find there was no water (the full park had none) had to wait nearly an hour for it to come back on. Next day I took a bag full of washing to laundrette (you book this via reception- its £12) they washed and dried it for me and text me when it was ready to be collected. Kids enjoyed the park and football activities. All in all was a great week. Didn’t use much of the facilities to be fair but you make your holiday ur own.

Just back from a break in one of the "newer" caravans in the Dalrymple area. Paid extra to get what was supposed to be a higher calibre caravan. The Dalrymple area is is now 2 years old and the caravans are showing sign of neglect. Could do with a little refurb. The couch in our van was saggy, the door curtains on many of the vans are missing, can see people walking about when the light's on at night. One of our windows had a curtain missing from the pair, when pulled across you could see out/in at the sides. One of the burners on the gas hob didn't work. Our friends who had one of the other Dalrymple caravans said the bed frame was creaky and sounded ready to break. If Haven are advertising the Dalrymple site as a prime area with a higher price tag, they need to up their maintenance on the vans, the lack of upkeep is showing. The area itself is tidy and close to the main facilities, the only negative in location is if you are in one of the non decking caravans you are back to back with the swing park and the noise from there goes into the small hours. Would recommend you book activities well in advance, we could only get early swimming slots and the evening entertainment was fully booked.

First, the good stuff, we booked 4 nights for our family of 6 and two dogs, we stayed in a standard 3 bedroom caravan, it was nice and clean and had a good range of kitchen items, there was plenty of room for us to spread out and relax. We didn't come for the entertainment/facilities as they don't interest us much beyond the play area which our 8yo enjoyed. Overall the park was mostly clean and tidy and the beach was nice to wander down to. The shop was well stocked if not a little pricey (to be expected) and was well ordered in terms of social distancing and keeping a minimum amount of people in at all times. Check in and check out was nice and easy. It is a place we would most certainly visit again.

However, there were a few down points.

Our check in slot was 6-7pm, which whilst late, we made work for our travelling time, making sure we picked up some shopping before arriving so we could get straight in to our caravan and make a quick meal when we'd settled in, we arrived at just gone 6pm, we parked up and went to find our caravan, only to find the door wide open (the door should have been sealed shut) and after a quick look inside we discovered that our caravan was still in the process of being cleaned, none of the beds were made, there were cleaning products left about, and it looked like some one had just downed tools and left half way through the cleaning, phoned reception who told us not to go in and wait by our car and after about 20 mins some one appeared and apologised for not having it done. We weren't the only ones in this situation as we could see many families just hanging about, not able to enter their respective caravans, it was 7.20pm by the time we were allowed in, and was gone 8 before we were able to eat. Not the best start to the holiday!
On top of that, all bed linen and rubbish from the previous occupants was left at the end of the path that led of our caravan, I reported this to reception only to be told it was because they wanted to leave it a while before moving, now I understand the need for precautions to be taken, but surely these bags had already been touched by the cleaners etc, why did they then need leaving in such a prominent place before moving? Surely a quieter corner would have been better? We had torrential rain on the second day, and seagulls had ripped open the rubbish looking for goodies, so we had rubbish along the path, along with the wet bedding. Thankfully by the Wednesday it had been moved and most of the rubbish picked up, but I can't say I was impressed by the process.

Overall we enjoyed our stay, it was better than expected given other reviews, but I think there needs to be some refining of the measures being taken because of Covid as having to wait so long for cleaning that should have been done long before we arrived is a poor show and then leaving potentially contaminated rubbish near by isn't a good idea by any ones standards.

Myself and my family had a weekend break during lockdown. We arrived on the first day of the park re-opening. Before booking it was made clear that most things would be closed. Check in was really quick and simple. We didn't have to leave the car so it was safe too, and staff were very friendly and cheery.
Only outdoor play areas were open but that was explained before booking and arrival.
It was also explained by phone call from Haven before arrival that owners would possibly be seen going into bars, the restaurant, swimming pool etc as a trial for how they can re-open safely for everyone at a later date. The price we paid was very reasonable for not having access to the pool etc.

Our caravan was lovely and clean, with a view of the beach/water. After being stuck at home for 3 months it was perfect. The supermarket was well stocked, staff on the door controlled entry and made sure everyone used hand sanitiser etc.

We spent time at the farm park next door which was within walking distance, at the beach and park and in/around our caravan.

All staff we dealt with were very friendly. We had a great time. Considering the park had just reopened and the country is still in lockdown the staff were amazing and it was such a welcome break.

Booked in for 4 nights on the 21st of September 2 adults and 1 1 year old.
Couldn't get checked in till after 1900, phoned to ask if there was any chance of getting In Earlier as we had a long journey to get there and our daughter is normaly fed, bathed and sleeping by then. Was told no and not offered any sort of courtesy add ons or anything.
I said to the girl on the phone its only 4 or 5 hours were getting that day and will be getting there and going straight to our beds.
Only to be replied by "it's by the night we do and you can get a full refund".

I understand that it's very, very important that the caravans is sterilised and deep cleaned to a very high standard, due to the pandemic but should be anyway in a normal situation, So I dont get why it was 5 hours over the check in time.
When we arraved at 1900 the caravan floor was absolutely filthy, the kitchen table and chairs clearly hadn't been pulled out to clean beneath them as the floor was covered in grass, tobacco and parts of a kids toy.
Our socks were black with only been walking on the floor within 10 mins.
The reception is closed at 1900 so we didn't go and complain, so spent 2 hours scrubbing the place and wiping the place down with disinfectant as the state of the floor didn't give us much confidence that the place had been cleaned properly.
I emailed customer complaints about it as I genuinely really don't like complaining about things and very rarely ever do, only to be told to go complain at the reception, but I just replied back that there was no point as we had cleaned it all over ourselves.

We also went swimming one day and went and booked it and found out that we had to pay £5 each to use the pool, I thought OK and paid it but thought that yous could have at the very least gave us a pool add on pass.
I asked when buying the tickets if we could use them every day but this wasnt the case, it was for one day only.

I also phoned twice before we got there if the pool and all entertainment was open and was told yes both times, only to get there and it was only the pool and arcade that was open, no shows for the kids. Wasn't happy at all about that.

There was no security walking around the caravans at night and every single night there was mass physical fights out side our caravan between teenagers and parents, shouting, swearing and battering each other for hours and drugs getting smoked.
It was like being stuck in the middle of a deprived dangerous housing sceme and my partner was scared to go out past them all at night.

Stayed here from the 5th to the 8th(left a day early) check in went fine not great that they don’t give u map tho to find ur way to caravan! Signs weren’t great for finding it either! Stayed in prestige which wasn’t great didn’t think it was any better and actually seemed smaller than my sisters deluxe even tho they were meant to be same size. Remote for tv in living room had back missing and there was no remote for the bedroom tv. Usually I find the beds super comfortable but this time was awful as the mattress was really hard. Front door was very hard to lock so much so I ended up having to leave it open the first night because I couldn’t work out how to get it to lock. Sorted it the next day luckily. Now for the worst parts! Now I totally get there’s covid restrictions but seeing as haven is continuing to take full price for the entertainment passes I really don’t think this should be the case. Per caravan you can only pre book 8 swimming slots in advance and ur lucky if you can get any slots booked once you arrive. You can only book into evening entertainment 1 night in the 4 nights you are there and your only able to get 2hr 30 mins. The entertainment they do have is just the worst. I usually go to Seaton Sands and thought Craig Tara with it being bigger that it would be better but honestly what a disappointment. Also came with other family members who had seperate caravans but obviously we couldn’t all stay together but when it came to eating we were told only 6 were allowed at a table which ok sure but what if u were an 8 berth caravan which one of them was! I don’t understand that part! Also when we did go to live lounge again we were told we can’t sit together again don’t understand this as we don’t have to socially distance from each other as we’re are in a social bubble together. The price people are paying for these holidays are extortionate really for what your getting! I had 5 kids with me and they were extremely bored most of the time because they couldn’t book anything that was free and everything that you have to pay for was fully booked but was really over priced anyway. Oh forgot to add that my sister had hired a travel cot and high chair and that the state of the items was terrible! Crusty food all over both items had a cheek to have them wrapped up! As if to keep them sanitised 😐 Very much doubt I’ll try Craig Tara again as just don’t seem worth it feel like I get a better deal elsewhere. Hopefully others have a better experience.

This will be a long post but hear me out. This was a brilliant holiday from start to finish. Check in was easy and our caravan was ready for us. After reading some reviews I made sure I took all my cleaning things, the floor in the living area did need a sweep (brush was provided) and a few of the plates weren’t as clean as I’d like but that’s the previous guests fault. Didn’t bother me as the rest looked spotless.
We had a deluxe caravan in Carnoustie Close. I would highly recommend trying to get this area if you need a bit of peace, there was no through road or traffic so there wasn’t many people walking by and was only a ten minute walk from all the activities. We are quite sure this location is why we enjoyed our stay so much. If you have sensitive skin take your own bedding. My husband found the sheets uncomfortable but that’s something for us to think about on our next visit. The living area was ample size for the three of us and visitors one day, bedrooms are a tad small to get around but we managed. If every room was full it would have been a squeeze but was fine for us.

The activities were really good, I’d highly recommend booking activities on check in and out day, they are quietest on those days so your child will have a bit more space to do any that are busy. You can do activities before and after you’ve checked in/out. My daughter is three and she did the mini Ariel climbing thing, got too upset and came off - they offered a full refund which was nice. The inflatable obstacle course we had booked on first and last day and was really quiet. Paint a plant pot, making slime (Steph was brilliant) and the swimming pool which is really good. Use the changing rooms upstairs if possible, it’s quieter and the lockers are free but £1 downstairs (refundable) It was busy and we lost some time due to queues but my daughter loved it. Due to covid and the tables not being spaced out we didn’t really bother with the entertainment much, we tried one night and stayed to the back but my daughter enjoyed watching the show but due to her bedtime we didn’t stay long but would go back. We ate at the brig o’doon and the food was fine, came as expected, we got in early so I think timing is key. We tried some of the smaller places like Burger King etc when time was pressed which were all ok. There is a co-op on site which has most things you need, Morrison’s supermarket is only a ten minute drive if you wanted a bigger shop. There is a very nice restaurant with an outdoor play area called The Balgarth which is a five minute drive from the site.
Check out is at 10am, you need to be prepared as you have to strip all the beds and wipe down surfaces before leaving as well as take rubbish out. There are large bins on a few areas to empty recycling and things like that.
I do feel that if we had a caravan slap bang in the middle noise would have been a issue especially once entertainment ended - take ear plugs just in case. I didn’t have high expectations after reading some reviews but we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and would go back again!

Just returned from Craig Tara from a very pleasant week away. As we were pretty much self sufficient & didn’t use the show bar, eating establishments or bars I am going to give an honest review from a tourers perspective: The touring area is very clean & tidy with spacious, well maintained super pitches. The toilet & washing up facilities are also kept to an impeccably clean standard. There is a nice little play park next to the pitches with a generous open space where the children can run around & have fun. The views from the top of the site across to the Isle of Arran are breathtaking & the beach is just lovely albeit be prepared for a long walk back up the hill unless you park down near the entertainment complex. We booked 2 swimming sessions online before we arrived & managed to book 2 more at the swimming pool reception desk while we were there. The staff were very helpful directing us to an appropriate designated changing room & the pool itself is every bit as amazing as can be seen in the photos. Indoor soft play was also a very enjoyable session for the children & easy to book & the amusements are a very good size with a large selection of rides & machines. However, there were a couple of issues which prevented me from giving the park an extra star: upon arrival we were directed onto our pitch but not told that we couldn’t have our awning on the grass. The next day the park warden came along & asked us to take it all down & move the van to the back of the pitch, placing our awning on the other side of the hard standing. This as you can imagine was a major inconvenience & we feel the rules should have been stated to us at the main gate. The second issue we had was the size of the toilet block for such a large touring area. Two closets & two showers in the gents was rather inadequate leading to queues during peak times so ideally another block should be built at the top end of the pitch. During the present situation the blocks are cleaned every hour which is good in the sense that they are always top notch but on the other hand very inconvenient between 7.30-10.30ish when families are waking up & getting ready for the day ahead. All in all a very nice holiday with lots of nice costal towns & scenery within driving distance & we would definitely return again. The only advice I would give people though is to be prepared & be organised. During a difficult time the staff are doing the very best they can. As stated in other people’s reviews the queues at the food outlets are very long, the bars are very very busy & yes the waiting times will be longer than usual but if you’re in your own caravan, bringing all your own food & drink & wishing to have a few beach days, let the kids run free & get a few swimming/activity sessions in you won’t be disappointed. (Final note the on-site shop was one of the best we have come across. Very large, well stocked & prices only the same as your local co-op)

I was a bit worried after reading some of the reviews on here but we were just desperate to be able to go away for our break! We arrived on Monday at 2.15pm and we’re greeted by a lovely man on the fate who told us where we needed to go. Drive down to be given our map and checked in note for the car. Found the van no problem as we’d been told the night before via email and although I couldn’t park directly next to the van, the parking space was only a few metres away.

Id booked a deluxe 2 bed and was upgraded to a 3 bed which was great as we used the spare room to put the case etc. Caravan was spotless (thanks to Kirsten who I had a brief chat with outside) only issues I had were that the shower control need a fair bit of strength to turn off fully and the pipe was leaking water but the pressure was great and I had the best caravan showers ever!

I’d booked activities and swimming on the app before we arrived so it all went well and he LOVED the Adrenaline! The staff were brilliant with him and can’t fault them at all.

The pool and arcades were lovely and quiet, which was far preferable! My only gripe about the pool was on our last session on the Thursday, a young couple came in who were given special treatment (not sure who they were, perhaps from social media) and the girl was wearing a bikini which was entirely inappropriate for a family pool area. The young lifeguard lads were laughing and joking with them and a couple of them even jumped into the pool with them, no idea why but I’m just glad there wasn’t an emergency with a child elsewhere while they were showing off 🙄 my son was coming down the slides and wasn’t allowed to go into the top pool area because this couple were in there so I wasn’t overly happy about that but that’s the only issue I had

In fact all staff were friendly and approachable even the security on arcade door (I’d read on here that there had been some issues).

We booked into the restaurant twice and used our vouchers so that made a big difference. In fact the worst thing about the holiday was on our second visit to the restaurant, a family sat in the booth behind us and they were so loud and using coarse language the whole time but we were halfway through our meal so we just ate quickly and left..... absolutely no need for that kind of language, particularly in front of their young children!

All in all we’d definitely come back to Craig Tara, perhaps in the summer months so we can make proper use of the beach etc

Response from Craig Tara, Guest Services / Front Office at Haven - Craig Tara Holiday Park
Responded 25 Oct 2020
Hi, Thank you for your feedback regarding your stay with us here at Craig Tara Holiday Park. I'm pleased to know you had such a great holiday, and that your little one loved our Adrena-Line Zip-Line. This new addition to our activities has certainly been popular and I'm glad you got the chance to try it. I'm sorry to hear you felt let down by your experience in the pool and by the breakfast served in the Brigs of Ayr restaurant. I have passed this feedback onto the relevant managers for their review. We will certainly hope to see you at Craig Tara again soon and we'll hopefully be able to bump those four stars up to five. Kind Regards, Stephanie Carrick Guest Relations

Where to even begin !! We arrived Friday 17th and had been given a check in time of 4pm, got to our caravan and it hadn’t even been cleaned… went to reception and they said to wait half an hour… we went back to the caravan on a few occasion and it still wasn’t ready, it was pouring with rain and we had our 2 year old son and our dog with us who were both getting very frustrated. We had an activity booked for 5.30 and missed it, and losing money as we couldn’t just leave our dog in the car to play indoor crazy golf. Went back to reception to explain all this and they could not have cared less ! We didn’t get into our caravan until after 7pm and even then we were missing a duvet and the standard of cleaning was terrible I tried contacting the reception via phone around 10 times but it rang out for at least 20 mins each time, upon speaking to the people at reception nobody really cared just got a half hearted sorry followed by silence so we just walked away and didn’t bother asking for anything else. We had to go buy a mop and cleaning supplies !! We had a dog friendly caravan and didn’t expect it to be in perfect condition but there were tears in sofa covers, burn marks on sofa and on the floor and mould on the wallpaper and shower. The double beds mattress all flopped down at the top so your head was hanging down all night. On the last 2 days our caravan had a terrible smell of sewage not sure if there’s problems with the sewage facilities or the pipes but I’ve seen a few people complain about the smell of the park. There was a smell of cannabis every where you went, the facilities were all extremely overcrowded and nobody wearing masks. First time in the restaurant on Saturday I asked for a cocktail which they didn’t have then asked for about 5 others which they didn’t have either so settled on a desperado, one of only two left in the fridge. Had lunch on the Sunday and the steak pie was inedible and definitely comes frozen then heated up. My partner lost his car key when we were checking out and asked reception at the door if anyone had handed it in and she sternly told him they were closed and to go see security. 100% will not be back to craig Tara, this is our second haven holiday this year and after this experience I really doubt we will be back. Haggerston castle had 0 issues, craig Tara is the worst holiday we’ve ever had. Leaving the park very deflated today and can’t wait to get home to clean surroundings.

Hello we went to Asda (20 minutes drive) but the Co-op is 10 mins. We just bought snack items and something for the kids supper. The Brigs of Ayr is good value for food. Breakfast is £9.99 for two adult rolls with tea or coffee. Kids eat for a £1! Free Sea Side Squad meet and greet aswell on Wednesday and Friday morning. They have a paninis deal for £12 two again and with soft drinks. We picked a different takeaway at night like Papa John's and the noodle bar. The Brigs of Ayr did have an evening deal at £20 I think but we just let the kids pick something before the entertainment. You can get it delivered to the tables while watching the entertainment. It was quick and easy. Hope that helps x

We went last September and it was like paddling in the med. Lovely and warm, clear as well. Waded out to knee deep as we had the dog with us. Only down sode was there was loads of jelly fish, some the size of dustbin lids washed up, so if you have pets just be aware
