The Alexandria Guest House is a modern and fresh guest house, superbly located in Ayr. The beach is just a short stroll from the front door, as is the trainstation and town centre. You will find all the rooms are tastefully decorated, well appointed and offer everything you would expect from a guest house. Many of our guest stay due to the locality of Prestick airport and we appreciated they often need to leave early before breakfast, so breakfast is an optional extra at £5 per person per night. We have a choice of 3 rooms, a King with en-suite facilites, or there is the option of a twin room, or a single room, which share a bathroom. Guest have use of free wifi, free parking, and more. The following are all within a short distance of the Guest House : Prestiwck Airport, Ayr Beach, Prestwick, Turnberry, Royal Troon and many more golf courses, Robert Burns Cottage and Museum, and that is just the beginning!

We booked here for 4 nights. A pleasantly furnished room and a friendly welcome. That was where the positives ended, unfortunately. I don't recall ever having to complain about a property before but I have no choice this time. The downstairs entrance hall reeked of cigarette smoke; not pleasant but not a problem in the room, given the anti smoking laws these days. We were wrong. The room wasn't as bad but still reeked of stale smoke (en suite room at the front) despite the no smoking sign on the door. If you smoke, you probably won't notice it in the room or the lobby. Neither of us do though and it was so lingering in the room, I had a bad taste in my throat until several hours after we left the next day. Loose toilet seat, dodgy yale lock on the bedroom door required much fiddling to gain access each time, dodgy damaged shower cord fitting (courtesy of the previous guest apparently, like the dodgy yale lock apparently) but these were minor issues next to the curtains for the large bay window - or lack of them. 3 pale translucent roller blinds which did nothing to keep the night time street lights out of the room. In fact we kept them closed the next morning and were able to read before we left for breakfast out without using lighting in the room! So light streaming in all night plus the stench of stale smoke in the room = a rubbish night's sleep. In fact I was awake for the last time at 5am sat by the bedroom door on my laptop (the only place in the room I could get any wireless reception on any of our devices) finding an alternative on AirBnB for the remainder of our stay. We left for breakfast, had some commitments locally and came back to check out at lunchtime. Hardly any point in confronting the owner other than to hand the keys back and tell her why; we honestly couldn't get out of there quick enough. We subsequently complained to AN Other booking website which my wife had booked this through in the hope of at least getting a partial refund, given they'd taken 4 nights' money up front (I can see why, now). They're not really interested and just asked the owner to respond to our complaints - which she has done by lying. No-one ever smokes at the property (which is utterly unbelievable) and we had apparently told her I suffer from insomnia and this is why I didn't sleep. An interesting fabrication - maybe she's thinking of another guest entirely! Honestly, the worst B & B experience we've ever had. Fortunately the remainder of our stay elsewhere was far better, and for a slightly lower price.

Had to stay at this B&B due to disaster at my home. It was fairly local to where I actually live...and insurance was paying...so... Firstly I was made to feel very welcome by Sandra and James who really made me feel at home during a very stressful time. Sandra actually helped with my personal affairs regarding insurance. I've stayed in many B&B due to work commitments, but here I actually felt like part of their family. Sandras breakfasts were delicous. Rooms were clean and tidy...and decorated to high standard. It is in a good location for both Prestwick and Ayr. I would recommend anyone to visit the Alexandria...and I guarantee they will make friends with Sandra and James.
