There are 84 rooms at the hotel from which guests can select a variety of sizes and configurations from Classic Rooms, Superior Rooms and Four Poster Rooms. All rooms come with an en-suite bathroom, TV, hairdryer, phone and tea and coffee making facilities. The hotel’s Adam Restaurant serves a hot Scottish breakfast in a buffet style. In the evenings the hotel serves a carvery-style menu as well as an a la carte menu. Reid’s Bar is a cosy lounge serving drinks of various types including local Scottish malt. The hotel is 10 minutes’ walk from the bus and train station. The Salutation Hotel enjoys a central location that many guests find convenient for exploring local attractions. While the hotel's rooms receive mixed reviews—some find them spacious and clean, others have noted issues with dampness and outdated decor—the atmosphere strikes a balance between traditional and modern, though the lively bar can lead to noisy evenings. The amenities and service are generally appreciated for their friendliness and helpfulness, but some guests encounter slow service and call for improvements in room and bathroom quality.
Cleanliness is usually praised, but occasional lapses are mentioned. The hotel's value proposition divides opinion, with some guests delighted by affordable dining options, yet others feel the offerings do not justify the price, particularly at the bar.

We had an excellent two course lunch for ten pounds. Three courses for fifteen pounds. Paid far more for comparable fare elsewhere. Pleasant staff. Good location. We will certainly return. We stayed overnight in the hotel a while ago and the room and service were very good.

Our daughters wedding was 13th August and including guests we booked 13 standard rooms ranging from 1 - 3 night stays and had no complaints. Friends who had booked 1 night said they wished they’d booked 2 as staff were lovely and attentive. All staff far exceeded our expectations and big shout out to Gordon and Kyle who worked tirelessly to ensure all went smoothly. Bar/ waiting / cleaning staff were cheerful and helpful especially when we got lost a couple of times in the quaint corridors lol. All rooms were clean and equipped with kettle/tea/coffee/biscuits/ in cupboard under tv. There was a fan on the dressing table and a hairdryer in the drawer and plenty coat hangers and a stand for your bag/ suitcase. The help yourself buffet breakfast is second to none and had so much choice you could never go hungry. Tea and coffee pots are brought to your table. Perfect! 15 of us had a bar meal/drinks the night before the wedding and everyone enjoyed their food alongside the relaxed atmosphere.
Following horrendous thunder and lightning out with The Salutations control there was extensive damage to a few rooms and this was attended to immediately as best they could alongside continuing to remain available to guests. We were there when this happened and it didn’t interfere with our break at all. So much so my husband and I have booked a 2 night stay this week to chill out. There was huge flooding all over the UK that weekend.
This is the oldest hotel in Perth, which is why we love it and are looking forward to our return visit. We have stayed in other hotels in Perth over the years and The Salutation is our favourite.

I was here on a business trip, first walking in the building the bar area and reception look really nice. Check-in was really easy met by Holly and Kerry, they were so happy and smiley and couldn't of been more help. I decided to check out the bar for abit and was chatting with the lovely chloe, she can really chat haha which is nice to see as that's what you need after a long day at work. I ordered the mushroom linguine and with a side of garlic bread, the mushroom pasta was lovely the sauce wasn't to runny like you see in some hotels, it tasted delicious, I ordered dessert after and was recommended the sticky toffee pudding, have to say it is the best sticky toffee I have ever had, will definitely be recommending it to anyone I know who will be visiting. The chef did appear and I had a chat with her and complimented her cooking and of course the sticky toffee, her name I believe is Kathryn she did tell me how to spell it as its an odd spelling haha. Now to the room very clean beds are comfy, bit noisy if your facing the carpark side, your alarm is the seagulls in the morning. Shower pressure isn't that great, walls are abut thin so hear the people next door snoring but these are just small things everything else was perfect. I didn't have breakfast included but decided to pay and try it and I certainly wasn't disappointed, Boyan and pam were really friendly Alex was the chef on in the morning and his breakfast was hot and yummy certainly a good way to start the day, there is of course the fresh pastries and fruit, meats and cheeses to. On checkout I was met by Sara and she was really nice polite and friendly.

The hotel's core business is hosting coach parties and utilising their function rooms for meetings etc. They do not seem to be interested in individual travellers. The staff are friendly and superficially helpful but seem not to be bothered about doing any more than the minimum (examples being - empty gin bottle on the bar for days, no-one seemed to think about replacing it. Perhaps they were going to buy another? No. It turned out that they had a new one all the time but no-one thought to look for one. Housekeeping- empty wine glass in the room for days, it remained there until checkout. For a stay of over 4 days the bedding was not changed). On checkout staff merely said thanks, I've had much friendlier and genuinely interested staff in budget chain hotels.
Next the accommodation. When any issues are raised the staff largely dismiss them with a shrug and the comment that it is an old building. I get this and have stayed in others but this seems to be an excuse here. The wallpaper and furnishings seem to have been there since the 1980s. As has been mentioned in other reviews some of the rooms are extremely inaccessible through a maze of dark, narrow, multi-level and smelly corridors. None of the rooms I saw had secondary glazing (which would help with sound proofing and heat loss and are evident in most of the older buildings I have stayed in, including Perth). The size of the rooms is variable (which is understandable given the nature of the building), but there is no consistency. Avoid rooms 207 and 208 which are so small you could develop claustrophobia staying in them. The single (208 described as a superior single) is the size of a broom cupboard, and the double is so small it is almost impossible to get round the bed if you brought any luggage with you. Neither room seems to fit the description of the room sizes they advertise. Also, Avoid room 217. It looks better, but.. be warned, you will be woken at about 7.00 every morning by the sound of the glass bottles being emptied into the bin lorry. The bathroom has supposedly been refurbished, but by someone who has never had to use the facilities. The silly little glass shelf over the sink makes using the sink almost impossible. I did find a little resident (a small black beetle) on my bed when I first arrived, but no other sign of it after that I don't think. I really wanted to love this hotel. It's a lovely building in a great location but it is run down and largely unloved, run by staff who have great potential but seem to have all their enthusiasm for their work drained out of them

Lovely reception area, given quite a large key fob for our room ( no chance of losing that). We were part of a large group. Nice , clean bar area with good service. We had room 313 which was a large suite with names on the door of famous past guests. Large bathroom and on first impressions we were very impressed. However, it was all cold we tried to turn the radiator up but just wouldn’t get hot. The bed was so cold it felt damp and this was felt all night. We woke up so stiff from the cold and so tired and hadn’t slept because of the cold it just knocked the edge of what would have been a lovely stay. I appreciate it’s a very old building but the heating needs looked at for sure as even the corridors were so cold. Breakfast was lovely and plentiful, lots of good choices and staff around constantly cleaning tables and making sure everyone had tea and coffee. Unfortunately due to the temperature of the bedroom I don’t think I would stay here again. Good central location .

I booked a two night stay for my parents that included my Dad's 85th Birthday. They had a wonderful stay and were delighted with the hotel. The hotel was kind enough to provide an upgraded room close to the lift so that they only had a minimal walk to get to it.
They loved the history and character of the hotel and their individual room. They ate in the hotel bar both nights and enjoyed their meals which were very good quality and excellent value for money.
From the General Manager down the kindness and care from staff was exemplary throughout which was much appreciated.

We stayed at the Salutation overnight with a coach party. On arrival several of our fellow passengers were wandering around the maze of corridors like lost souls looking for their rooms. Some had rooms on the second floor but they had to go up to the third floor and down again to the second which caused some confusion. Our room was at the back on the third floor. First the good: the room was quiet and seemed generally clean although shabby. The bedding was spotless and the towels were big and fluffy and white. Dinner was good apart from the roast potatoes which were leathery. Breakfast was good and the staff at both meals were pleasant and attentive. Now the bad: The shower was nothing more than a dribble, the concertina shower screen kept folding in on itself, the fan didn't work and the biggest baddy of the lot was the extremely small double bed. It couldn't have been more than 4 ft, more like a large single. My 6ft husband and I were squashed together like sardines and couldn't move at all. I had to drape my arm and leg over the side to keep from rolling into the middle and when I eventually managed to get to asleep it wasn't for long as I woke up with pins and needles in the arm draped over the side. Overall a bit of a disappointment. At least it was only for one night.

I stayed at the Salutation Hotel on Tuesday the 9th of January, room 203. As a General Manager in a large 4 star hotel in Perhshire I was curious to see how this one was, as i was meeting friends at night and buisness meeting next day. I phoned as I had a price on booking.com but wanted the hotel to get the payment directly (no commission) but I was quoted a higher price, perhaps look at 3rd party prices and better or at least equal them. ( then no commission payments) Reception was friendly, gave me the information I needed no problem, tried to upsell me breakfast which was good to see. The room I had paid for a single, but was given a twin so hopefully the philosophy of free upgrades at quiet times happens here. The shower was excellent, very warm, water pressure great, as I am aware that sometimes in an old building this can be an issue. On my way out I enquired about a late check out as my buisness meeting had been pushed back. The hotel I manage we encourage the staff to upsell late checkouts, we charge £10 per hour after 11am and up to 2pm. I wanted to stay until 12.30pm and was quoted £40!!!! For an extra hour and a half. Cmon people this is easy extra money to get, dont vastly overcharge.
Checkout was easy, wasnt asked about my stay which should be automatically done. But my stay was fine.
Thank you

Visited The Salutation Hotel today for lunch, they are currently offering ‘Two for a Tenner’ special and have to say it was lovely! We had a bowl of lentil soup served with a roll for starters and I had the chicken dish and my husband had the beef curry both of which were very tasty. You could have had a starter and main course or main course and pudding. The staff were friendly and attentive. The Salutation is a very traditional hotel right in the centre of Perth…will visit again…well done to all concerned! ⭐️

I recently decided to have a last minute weekend break in Perth, my first since the lockdown. The famous Salutation Hotel were offering great value accommodation and I booked, requesting a quiet, top floor room. Receptionist Fiona kindly ensured that I was allocated a suitable room which endured that I had an enjoyable stay.
Thanks to Fiona and Team Sally, I'll be back before long.
