The Riverside Lodge Hotel offers a welcoming atmosphere in its common areas, which guests often appreciate. However, opinions are divided when it comes to the hotel's amenities; some guests enjoy the spacious rooms and the cuisine, while others point out issues with breakfast service and overpriced beverages. Room cleanliness and decor receive mixed reviews, with certain travelers finding the upkeep lacking. Although the staff is frequently commended for their friendliness, service can be hit or miss. Lastly, the value proposition is a matter of debate, balancing favorable rates against the cost of extras.

We planned our visit here from booking.com reviews to commence after our Gretna Green Wedding in the first week of December.

The hotel price via booking.com included breakfast and dinner with the room. The hotel was easy to find on the main route to Irvine.

The hotel is beautiful. The lobby, reception and bar is newly decorated and looks amazing at Christmas time with all the fresh Christmas trees. All the seating area is spaced out and very clean. Within the seating area is two beautiful log fires in a glass case with a piano at the back of the lounge.

When we arrived we were greeted by friendly staff who were very helpful. They have hand sanitisers available and a digital temperature scanner for the covid checks.

We had my daughter attend at last minute and the staff at receptionwere amazing at organising another room for a 17 year old with meals included at a great price.

The rooms are spacious and clean and have everything you need for your space. Housekeeping is everyday however we asked them to leave our rooms to make sure we and them were covid safe but they did leave a bag every morning with fresh condiments and towels.

We booked our table every night for our meals as requested and never had an issue getting a table. The restaurant is beautiful and the distance all the tables really well. The fish pond they have is amazing.

The meals we each had every night were delicious and our compliments has to go to the chef. The meals were exceptional and the cheap price of the meals is unbeliveable. Once the covid tier system changes i can see this hotel will be busy and in demand.

We have come to stay here to review the area as we will be moving up in the new year but while this has only been a whistlestop tour of irvine. We have had the best few days staying at this beautiful hotel.

Give it a try you will not be disappointed.

Having stayed in the hotel many times since it was a Thistle, it is good to finally see some money being spent to improve the hotel. We requested a renovated room rather than leave it to chance. It was a surprise to see a huge TV that had Netflix and other streaming apps. The rainforest shower was also a pleasant surprise. The room had tea/coffee, biscuits, iron/ironing board, desk and chair, sofa, good insulated windows, blackout curtains, free WiFi, plenty of spare plug sockets, desktop fan, oil filled radiator and miniature shampoo and shower gel bottles.

It didn’t quite live up to the hype after reading so many reviews but it was certainly substantially quieter than many years ago when it was the Hospitality (aka Hostility) Inn. Looks like loads of £ have gone into decorating and updating the property but put some substance behind it. My bedside lamp bulb was burnt out, went to reception asking for a replacement that never happened. Aside from that there was very insufficient lighting in the room unless the blinds were open but with no sheers being on the ground floor anyone walking by looked directly into the bedroom. There were towel warmers in the bathroom inoperable, the shower rod holding the shower head would not stay upright so had to hold it for a shower. The towels were thin as well. Breakfast was included but limited staff available after waiting 5
minutes before someone appeared to show us to a table (a sign said please
wait to be seated) I asked for 2 fried eggs, 15 minutes later I got one, sigh not worth the wait for a second. Asked for a double espresso got a single. At that point we thought best to just leave well enough alone check out and make a note not to do that to ourselves again. Cheap cheerful but not much quality there.

Arrived and no sanitiser available, spoke to reception staff who said "they meant to fill it earlier "not good under current circumstances. She then asked to take my bank card in her hand to input details as they don't have a card machine to put pin number in. Again, I work in retail and we are encouraging card payments without handling customer cards. A better process is needed. We had to ask regarding where to go for dinner and what time checkout was as we were not given this information.
Arrived in room and white wine given on arrival was not in ice bucket and very warm.
View from room not good either.
Staff at dinner and breakfast were great, with both meals amazing .

Stayed here for a wee night away as a treat. Check in was smooth, no issues. We asked if we could order drinks to our room given the current climate and were told yes. We’d been in the room an hour when we got a call from reception (around 4pm) saying they were too busy and room service wouldn’t be available until 8pm at the earliest. Found this surprising given there was no other way to sell alcohol... We didn’t bother in the end and nipped out to get our own at a shop. The room itself was lovely and clean, modern. However the bathroom was very dated - think the shower was from the 80s 🙈 They must be refurbishing bit by bit. The food in the restaurant was lovely and the staff friendly. Breakfast was served by the chef himself and he was a pleasure - so cheery and friendly. Was a nice night away but bit let down by the room service situation, only an issue because of the current climate when there was no other way to get a drink.

Had an ok stay but probably wouldn’t stay again. It’s a nice hotel with a lovely reception area and nice modern bar and lounge area. Rooms were dated or at least room we had was. We had dinner but felt service wasn’t great. Took a long time between courses and to get bill. Buffet breakfast was served because of covid. Food was nice but a bit cold which was disappointing. Also asked for toast but never got it. not much to do within walking distance. Temperature was taken at door on entry where there was also hand sanitiser. There was always someone going around cleaning but I feel they should maybe concentrate more on the seating areas as people would come and go with no sanitation in between. Overall it’s nice but improvements could be made.

Just returned from a three night stay at the Riverside Lodge Hotel. The decor in public areas was lovely, The bedroom looked as though it had been freshly painted, but the furniture was old and badly marked , also it looked on to a housing estate, could have done with some sort of fine curtains for a bit of privacy. Breakfast was buffet style, plates were not heated and breakfast was not very warm. We did mention to the waitress who was very nice, and next day the plates were slighty heated. We could not charge drinks or food to our room, which I thought was a bit strange. Outside garden area a disgrace, grass not cut, weeds everywhere, there was cigarette ends lying everywhere and dirty glasses and ashtrays left lying from night before. You would expect a higher standard from a four star hotel, if I was thinking about booking a wedding there, the outside area would put me right off. One good thing about this hotel was the staff, all were very pleasant and helpful especially Catherine.

We recently had an overnight stay with dinner, bed and breakfast. Upon arrival the reception staff were very friendly and welcoming. Our room was immaculate, spacious and modern. The bed was massive and comfortable, plenty of towels, shower gel and shampoo in both the en suite and the main bathroom. The smart T.Vs, both in the main bedroom and the sitting area were ideal, both having all the latest apps available to use. The jacuzzi bath was an amazing feature to the room as well as the Sonos surround sound system. The food at dinner was first class with a good selection of dishes to choose from. We also tried a few cocktails which went down a treat (highly recommend). Overall, the service in the restaurant was good considering the current Covid restrictions that have been put in place with the one way system. Breakfast was ideal with a wide selection of hot and cold items, the staff came round to top up any juice, tea or coffee that we had. Overall this was a very enjoyable stay and we will definitely be returning again.

Arrived at the hotel to road signs saying Hallmark Hotel, when I never knew it was a Hallmark hotel, would be best to have the name Riverside Lodge signs, just my opinion. Plenty parking and lovely reception area/lounge.

Checked in ok and walked the very long corridor to our room which was way at the other end, room 119.

As soon as we walked in, I could smell bleach. Nice to know it is cleaned but bleach? If you have a chemical issue as I do, it’s not the best. Room furniture was a little tired. Wouldn’t take much to bring it back again, a little sand and re varnish. Decor nice enough but walls and ceiling could do with some fixing. There was patches of wallpaper covering bits here and there.

Restaurant. We added dinner on at reception to our B&B rate which was an extra £20pp on top of the £99 B&B rate. Way more expensive due to Cop26 apparently.
Food was lovely. Great service too. Disappointed for a hotel in Scotland not to have any Scottish lagers or beers though - what happened to buying local? I will give credit to offering Soave ice cream from Glasgow though.

3 stars for the rooms. Whilst checking out was pleasant, wasn’t asked if we enjoyed our stay.

Booked a 2 night break through myhotelbreak.com. If you are struggling to find hotel road signs are for Hallmark hotel it’s previous name. The hotel is in a strange location at the back of town in a modern housing estate. There are no bars, restaurants or shops nearby. Hotel reception and bar area very nice. Hotel is a large L shaped building on 2 floors. No lift but plenty of ground floor rooms for those less mobile. Some rooms are quite a walk from reception so I would recommend asking for a room near reception. Although a couple, we were allocated a large family room with 2 king size beds.Room a bit dated but very clean and good facilities. Breakfast is self service. The only thing is the service area is very small with hot food trays, cereals and toast machine all close together. Not good for social distancing. There has to be a better location. Food is plentiful and good quality. The only thing is they only serve scrambled eggs probably to save space. Most of us expect fried eggs with breakfast.
Dinner served either in restaurant or bar area. The menu is very limited and not as shown on website. The first night I had fish and chips and have to say it was the smallest portion I have ever been served. I can only guess they were low on stocks as the next night I saw diners being served large portions. They should never have served such a portion. The next night I had a burger which although priced on website as £11 actually cost £13. Far too much for a basic burger. Bar was quite good with decent range of beers and cocktails. I would return again. Staff friendly.
