Detailed Reviews
Lovely large quiet room, comfortable beds. Only issue was with the shower temperature which was difficult to control with two oddly angled taps. We enjoyed the delicious breakfast and we also had an evening meal on two nights which was good value and tasty. The lady who greeted us was very helpful and pleasant.

Popped in for a bite to eat last night. Excellent choice of the 3 small plates between 2 of us. Squid, Prawn/chorizo and Chicken Karage were well received. Add in a bottle of very reasonably priced Sauvignon Blanc served by the very pleasant Fiona and we left happy.

It is not often I am truly positively surprised by the quality and atmosphere of a hotel but this place made it. To start with, the staff and the level of customer focus/service was outstanding. Arriving at the hotel I had some totally unrelated issues with my travel logistics and they really did all they possibly could to help and other than that just an amazing team. Further, I have stayed in a number of different "pub-hotels" and find most of them very cozy and comfortable but entering my room here was like walking into any high quality business hotel. Large, clean, light, aircond, with a very comfortable bed and functioning working desk. Obviously well working free WiFi. Adding to all this, it is located as central as you can get in wonderful St Andrews and also serves good food and a great breakfast.

Popped into Greyfriars for lunch on Saturday afternoon. Frequent this establishment very regularly with clients. I’m always very impressed by one staff member , she has worked there as long as we have been going in for lunches and is very attentive and very pleasant. We were seated by a young man to make our lunch choice, we waited to be served, i observer the young man collecting glasses and looking at cheques, he made no attempt to come back eventually Fiona noticed us sitting and came right over to deal with us, this lady is always very efficient, pleasant, hard working and an asset to the business. Fantastic example of a great team member. Looking forward to our return visit 😊

We were the only couple when everyone else in the hotel were groups of men on golfing holiday and that pretty much said it all. St Andrews is not cheap and Greyfrairs thinks it can get away with charging a premium but you only get Holiday Inn quality. Think bathrooms with damaged sanitary ware, a shower that tries its best to offer more than trickle, thirty year old fitted pine furniture, towels and bedding with stains and you soon realise that their usual clientele is blind to the quality as long as the beer and whisky are flowing downstairs. Add to that, no carpark with an a early morning rush to move your car before the overzealous traffic wardens do their rounds together with students holding all night parties at various locations around the vicinity of the hotel and a relaxing, sophisticated place to stay at a fair price this most certainly is not!

First the positive. Location, very good: close to golf and beach; right in the middle of bars, restaurants and shopping, ideal. The hotel is clean and the staff friendly and efficient. Our room on the first floor was spacious and comfortable. We had breakfast both mornings and it was very good. A full breakfast, hot, plentiful, set us up for the day. The bar has a large range of beers and the barman gave me a couple of wee tasters to help my choice.
The downside: now this should not overshadow what is basically a good review. Car parking! The hotel advertises free parking but the reality is that the car park is always full. Indeed as our room overlooked the car park I saw a guy who was running his business from the car park! He has two cars: one he brings to work and the other with his gear in it. When he works he swaps cars and puts his own car into his personal space: cheeky! The other thing is the creaky floorboards! It’s fine during the day but at night it gets a bit annoying. I think someone above us had an early airport transfer. 4am and he/she was moving about and the floor was going good style.
Having said all this, it was a very good stay and we would not hesitate to stay here again, as long as we can get a parking space!

From arrival to leaving the staff were open and friendly throughout. Our room was spacious and clean with all the facilities you would need althugh my wife thought the wifi was a bit patchy. we had an excellent fish tea on our first night served by a very friendly staff member and breakfast was generous, and again served by a cheery and chatty member of the team. All this at a very good price completed our stay and we were more than satisfied and would not hesitate to recommend this hotel where, all but the fussiest of guests, would be sure to agree.

If you just need a place to sleep in St Andrew’s it can do, but the rooms are worn. In our room wallpaper was peeling, furniture was stained and the very cramped bathroom was a bit of a show. Both the bathroom door itself and the shower door didn’t fully close. There was no soap in the shower soap dispenser, and it frankly wasn’t very clean. For over 200 pounds a night, I expect more.
There was a sign on the desk to call if you have any problems, but, fittingly, our phone didn’t work.
The associated pub was nice with hardworking, friendly staff.

Spent a 3 night break at Greyfriars whilst golfing at St Andrews. The hotel is in a great location 5 minutes stroll from all the golf courses, university, sea front and centre of town with all its bars and restaurants.
Great value, comfortable and clean rooms. Fab breakfast with everything on offer including a tasty Scottish full breakfast.
Hotel doubles as a busy bar, well stocked.
All the staff are incredibly friendly and helpful, special mention to Fiona who excelled.
Would definitely return

Hello, Thanks for taking the time to leave us a five star review. We are very lucky where the hotel is located. Avoid if you don't like BURNT PIES.
Went for lunch yesterday ordered Festive Turkey Pie when it arrived I immediately said it was burnt but the Server going by till receipt (Sarah) said that's the way the Kitchen always serves them!!
She said I can get another one but again repeated that's how the Kitchen serves them.
Didn't want a fuss as with a friend so obviously left the burnt pasty.
Paid and left but unfortunately won't return plenty other places in St. Andrews that don't serve burnt food !!
Shame.

Derekcs4274mb, we're disappointed to hear of the negative experience you had at our pub. Thanks for bringing this matter to our attention and I will speak with the kitchen team regarding this. The pastry on the top of the pie has a charred look to it but the pie itself inside should obviously not be burnt. We hope to see you again soon here at Greyfriars.

No idea got the train
Don’t think so
I’m not sure you will need air conditioning being it’s so close to the coast and the country being naturally cool climate wise. You do have to walk through the far edge of a pub with restaurant but I wouldn’t have any problems bringing a child at that hotel.
There is a car park next to the hotel which is free, although it is tough to get spaces depending on the time of arrival. Free parking is also available on The Scores behind the hotel.
Parking is free everywhere on a Sunday.
