The Old Course Hotel Golf Resort & Spa comes highly recommended for its opulent amenities, including sumptuous rooms with stunning views and diverse dining options, although some visitors note limited late-night offerings. While the service is often celebrated for its friendliness and efficiency, a few guests have encountered slower service. The comfortable and modern rooms are a hit, but there's occasional dissatisfaction with room assignments.
Despite its picturesque location and high cleanliness standards, the resort's value is debated, with some deeming it overpriced. The atmosphere exudes elegance and history, complete with luxury touches.

We had a really lovely afternoon tea on the 14th of December. There is a good selection of teas to choose from and the sandwiches were fresh with a variety of fillings. It was nice to see that they were freshly made and not straight out of the fridge as I’ve often been served in other establishments. The scones were also fresh and warmed up, with enough jam and clotted cream - also at a spreadable temperature. The afternoon tea cakes were very nice and the Rudolph cake was a lovely feature and definitely a welcome addition to the plate! The staff were very friendly and efficient and could not have done enough. Thank you so much for a wonderful afternoon and we will book again soon.

Resting on its Laurels we believe! We booked the best available rates a couple of weeks out but noticed the hotel were offering much better deals for our dates which we were not advised of. We asked to amend the deal but were told no until we pointed out we were within the cancellation period. So we got the new deal which included a restaurant voucher for 110£ and the room was cheaper. The Road Hold afternoon bar experience was poor and it was very difficult to order another drink. Those guys missed a tip but maybe they don’t share the tips or don’t care! The room was not serviced during our stay but as we were only there for two nights that was not a disaster. The Jigger staff and service was above and beyond and they made the trip. Reception staff were also excellent. Unlikely to return until the 5 star service does.

Dear Ewan C, Thank you for taking the time to review your most recent stay with us at the Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa. I have also received your post-stay survey which has already been shared with all relevant departments for their consideration moving forward. Our current Dinner, Bed & Breakfast deal had not yet launched at the time of booking but I am pleased that you we were able to accommodate the change request for you. As previously mentioned after reading your survey and review I am delighted that there were many aspects of the resort that you scored as 'excellent'. However your valued, honest feedback helps us to understand and appreciate areas of growth from our guests perspective, we are constantly evolving and retraining to meet the expectations of your guests and to provide each and every guest with the levels of 5* hospitality the resort is known for. We do hope to be able to welcome you back in the future. Sincerely, Jack - Manager on Duty

Our room was spacious and very clean. The bed was large and very comfortable as were the pillows. Towels were good quality and fluffy. The hotel and check in was very busy. Check in staff were efficient and polite. We ate dinner in the Road Hole Restaurant, it was extremely quiet, only us at a table of two and one other single person. We enjoyed a bottle of champagne which was perfectly chilled. My husband enjoyed his meal, I didn't enjoy mine much. I chose scallop, the scallop was nice but the accompanying vegetables were not. The cod was tiny! It was a piece of cod with a cep mousse wrapped in ham. There was a lot of mousse compared to the cod so it felt like eating cep with ham. Such a shame as I was really looking forward to it but didn't enjoy it. Dessert and coffee were nice and service was good. We enjoyed a drink in the bar afterwards, again service was very good. The bar had a weird smell, rather like an old peoples home. At breakfast we opted for the buffet. We appeared to hit rush hour for breakfast but although it was very busy there was plenty of food to choose from and we both enjoyed a good breakfast. It was our first time staying at this hotel and although the location is lovely, particularly for gold lovers like my husband I think the next time we visit St Andrews we will opt for a different hotel.

We stayed for one night only, to be fair that was enough. We were upgraded to a beautiful room overlooking the 18th, the room was beautiful and very well presented however the biggest fault was it was two single beds put together to act as a double, this was an issue at night as both the beds were not the same height and caused problems to sleep.
The hotel has current renovations ongoing just now, so we were seated in the Conservatory for dinner, the overall experience was very basic, the food was nothing special and the wine was very over priced.
The only location we could have a light refreshment after our meal was the Swilcan Loft on the fourth floor, there were only two or three other couples situated in this bar, it emptied very quickly, a lovely bar and very well presented with friendly and pleasant staff.
One of the biggest issues we had was the supplement of £40pp to use the Kohler Water Spa, this for me is a disgrace that paying guest should have to pay an addition cost to visit the Spa area. We did have complimentary access to this area between 07:00am - 10:30am to which we used, however this is the only 5* hotel we have visited that charges you an additional supplement to use the facility.
Breakfast was average at best,it was served in the Conservatory, very very slow to receive the order of poached eggs, when they arrived they were cold and under done, we had to go between two separate rooms with your plate to the hot buffet trays if you required other items to eat.
Overall a very average standard, definitely not what you would expect for 5*, average food, living of past name and service.
Will not revisit.

Dear diam0nd1924, Thank you for taking the time to review your most recent stay at the Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa. During these exciting times of renovations we have strived to maintain the levels of quality and service for which the resort is known for. especially for guests like yourself who have chosen to come and stay during these times, we are naturally disappointed to hear that on this occasion there were factors not to your liking. For many years now we believe that only charging guests for use of the facilities instead of increasing our accommodation rates for all guests is the fairest and morally correct thing to do. All guests staying with us have complimentary use of our Leisure Suite which houses a full-sized lap pool, a jacuzzi, sauna and fully equipped gymnasium to enjoy from 06:00 - 21:00 daily. As mentioned we also have complimentary hours for our guests in the Kohler Water Spa from opening until 10:00 and again after 19:00 daily. We do hope you will reconsider a return in the future to see the resort in it entirety once the work is completed. Sincerely, Jack - Manager on Duty

Our stay at the Old Course Hotel was a gift from a family member to honour a special occasion. The Hotel is being renovated yet the charge was still around £450 per room(!) We had limited choice for on site restaurants and had to walk long corridors with "wet paint" signs. The breakfast was distinctly average, having to go to a separate room with your plate to choose from 2 small tables of hot buffet trays. Also when will hotels EVER serve nice breakfast coffee?! The room felt luxurious and the beds were super comfy - we just felt let down by the hotel communal experience. Not sure I'd reccomend for the price.

Returned to The Old Course last week for a night on 17th December, it's one of our favourites and well worth the journey from the West of Scotland to indulge in a bit of 5 star luxury with a room overlooking the sea. The welcoming efficient reception staff and concierge really set the scene on arrival, arranging for us to have complimentary fizz until our room was ready. We booked the special seasonal deal which meant we had a generous complimentary allowance to spend on food and drink at the hotel. The famous "Wee Jigger" was closed for renovations but that said we were still spoiled for choice at the hotel's restaurant. We had dinner at the Swilcan Loft restaurant and that was amazing as was the breakfast. In fact during that one night stay we didn't leave the comfort of the hotel and it's amazing facilities. One of our favourites and we recommend it to anyone thinking of going to St Andrews or Dundee Area

My husband and I stayed at the Old Course Hotel in St. Andrew’s, Scotland and had a wonderful stay during a golfing trip to Scotland, made all the more memorable by this lovely hotel. The hotel is elegant and graceful, and the rooms are well appointed with a very comfortable bed, pillows, and a luxurious bathroom. Breakfast is filled with wonderful options and is in the restaurant that overlooks The Old Course. While staying there, I enjoyed the fabulous spa and had one of the best treatments I’ve had in a long time. We enjoyed how each of the rooms is named after a golfer who won the British Open and walking down the hallway is an experience in golfing history that tickled us every time we went to our room. The staff at the hotel are gracious and welcoming, friendly and warm. Golfers going out early in the morning, even have an option of some Items that they can pick up for a quick breakfast as this hotel thinks about their guests and their needs. We could not have had a better say and enjoyed a hotel more than we did here. The only thing I can comment on that I thought was a bit odd were the two upholstered chairs in our hotel room, which were quite firm and felt like sitting on wood. However, that was a very small and inconsequential part of our visit and we would gladly go and stay again.

Afternoon tea, pleasant enough but at £40 a head I was expecting superior service included in the price. Unfortunately it was non existent. Young foreign staff( better training I’d suggest) the pace was so slow it was 1/2 hr before we actually got any food. It’s not that they were busy to begin with so you’d expect it to be sharper. Our tea arrived way too early and we spent the next 20 mins looking out to the golf course awaiting our goodies before the tea ran out🥴 Asking for the bill and then paying was another marathon time killer. If this is the standard for such a prestigious hotel then it has fallen well below my expectations of quality.

Dear Mrs McPhee, I am saddened and disappointed to see that you have chosen to be misleading in your review. I would like to take sometime to fully dissect your feedback as I had done so for your husband during your check out process yesterday. You were indeed offered a private area in one of our restaurants, this was due to you not making any bookings for dinner during your stay, being a busy period as you can imagine we had very few options for you to all dine together, the Sands Grill Private areas was chosen as the ideal location, not only so we could accommodate you at your preferred time but also so you could all sit together on one large table as you wished. After dinner we did have availability in our Road Hole Bar however children are only permitted until 10pm, we do have our Library where families with children can go and enjoy after this time which your group rejected. The resort offers complimentary hours to all our guests for the Kohler Water Spa from opening until 10am and again after 7pm daily, however it is fully complimentary for all guests who have booked in a treatment. All our guests also have fully complimentary use of our Leisure Suite which houses a full-sized lap pool, a jacuzzi and fully equipped gymnasium. Children are permitted in our Leisure centre during our splash time from 10am until 5pm. We do ask that guests book time slots to take advantage of these offerings as we implement a limit in capacity to avoid overcrowding, as you had not booked to use the Spa area we were unable to allow access at your desired time as we had already reached capacity. Your party had only booked for two nights both through our website directly and also on a third party site, Booking.com, when checking out yesterday your family had enquired about adding on another night despite the multiple issues you have claimed took place in the 48 hours you had booked and stayed for. At this point, after having several conversations with your family during your stay I informed you that we would not be for filling your request to extend for one or two more nights. As explained to Mr McPhee we take the wellbeing of our guests and our associates very seriously. Due to the aggressive and intimidating behaviour displayed towards, myself, our associates & management and other guests in the resort, we reserved our right to not extend your stay. I completely, categorically refute the allegation that your travelling heritage had any impact in our decision making and was only brought up and mentioned by your family after our final conversation had taken place. Here at the Old Course Hotel, Golf Resort & Spa we are lucky enough to have a diverse multicultural melting pot of different nationalities, races, religions and genders in every team across the board. This is something we are extremely proud of and is part of our inclusivity ethos that the Kohler brand is known worldwide for. We are delighted that we have been able to open our doors to all four corners of the world throughout the years and look forward to continuing for many more to come. Sincerely, Jack - Front of House Manager

First time at the hotel, booked a spa package as a birthday treat for my Mum. The massage was the best we had ever had, although the pool area was closed what was available was immaculate and stunning you would never know there was work going on. The therapists were very professional, kind and courteous. The lunch afterwards was amazing, we ordered a soup each, tuna sandwich and sweet chilli noodles the presentation was perfect and completely delicious. The staff in the spa cafe I can’t explain in enough words how fantastic they were. They genuinely cared and they worked together to provide impeccable service and they all take so much pride in what they do. It seems as though the staff love what they’re doing and this comes across in the service. Thank you for making it a special day!
