Voco Edinburgh - Haymarket, an IHG hotel, garners compliments for its welcoming atmosphere and prime location, which allows easy access to local attractions. The service is generally celebrated for its friendliness and professionalism, though a few guests have encountered inconsistencies. While some reviewers praise the hotel for its value, opinions are split due to additional costs.
The cleanliness of its rooms receives high marks, and the hotel's amenities, including a quality breakfast buffet, are well-regarded. Nonetheless, a handful of guests have noted the rooms can feel cramped and have called for improvements in service quality.

Hotel's Favourite
Excellent hotel, spotlessly clean, outstanding decor. Great bar with attentive staff, tasty nibbles and a funky setting.
George checked us in and it was a fantastic experience, instantly making us feel welcome and he gave us an outstanding introduction to the things to do in town.
Location is close to the castle and the main shopping street.
There was no hot water for one day of our stay, which may have been bad luck, bad maintenance or a lack of a backup system, we have no way of knowing, it was restored later in the day.

Great hotel, only a couple of small things they have got wrong (in my opinion).
The hotel doesn't have a car park so if you take you car bare this in mind. We found a space on the your parking space app. £10 per 24 hours which wasn't too bad and it was only about 11 minute walk. (if you use this app use the Roseberry Crescent Lane address to find it as the address on the app takes you to the front of the building).
The front of house was immaculate with sanitising stations at the front door. We were greeted by Tia, who has to be one of the nicest hosts ever. We were shown to the lift (which I thought was a nice touch). Then proceeded up to the 4th floor.
We stayed for 1 night in a Queen premium with hot tub, which has now been changed to jetted bath on the website. The room was a nice size with a sofa, queen bed, a small table and built in wardrobes. The room was a little dusty which was unexpected. The bathroom was lovely, the bath was great also the separate shower was very refreshing. The only thing wrong with the bathroom is there isn't enough hanging space. There is a small 4 hanger by the sink with 2 robes on which didn't leave any space to put your towels to dry them after use. Also i didn't see a place to put your hand towel until the day after when we removed the robes from the hanger, we had to put the hand towel on the side of the sink. So the bathroom in that area is a little cluttered and not a very usable space.
Tea and coffee was provided with a shortbread biscuit, but the complimentary items in the mini fridge that you should have got with it being a premium room were not. I did question this and they said it was due to covid restrictions? but surely this same restriction should apply to tea/coffee and the biscuit. Also instead of sealed bottle water they provided a reusable bottle filled with tap water. Don't get me wring it looked nice but it's not sealed so anyone could have tampered with it especially in these unnerving times the hotel should be providing sealed bottles of water? There wasn't a bin in the living area to put tea bags which I thought was odd.
Breakfast.... not really a breakfast to write home about also its very expensive. each item was individually priced we paid almost £30 for breakfast we both had coffee and juice my partner had cornflakes and 2 slices of toast (cheap bread I thought) I had continental which was 2 baguette slices, 2 mini croissants, 2 mini pain au chocolate, cheese sticks (? odd ) a small pot of plain yoghurt and compote. When I say small and mini that's what they were.
So all in all a great stay, great staff and lovely rooms but I'd recommend getting breakfast else where.

I would split this review into 3 parts
Accommodation - the check in service and standard of the rooms was excellent and rooms very new and clean . Rooms good size with good shower and bedding
Restaurant- we stayed the Saturday night and had booked the ITison voucher deal with £20 each allowance
The menu was restricted to set menu and quite limited for vegetarian option. It seemed that the place was too busy for the staff that night and although doing their best seemed to be no plan to the meal order coming out , we waited over a half hour
I opted for the steak and asked well done , it came medium cooked and was tough ( also carries £5 supplement )
We not in a hurry but did need more staff
Breakfast - good choice of food and have to say there was plenty
Again the delivery of food didn’t follow the seating of people.
Understand that everyone is out of routine and hopefully will get organised as even the staff seemed unsure of table numbers and plans
Staff friendly and doing their best maybe just need some supervision and direction in restaurant.

We arrived at Voco after finding out our last minute booking at the Mercure Haymarket hadn’t been found on their system and they were fully booked! So after agreeing to transfer the booking across we were delighted upon arrival at Voco. My husband is an IHG member anyway and as the hotel was pretty new our immediate impression was very positive as Rachel at Reception welcomed us warmly and checked us in saying our room was being made up but offered us each a complimentary drink whilst waiting. The bar area was lovely, modern and stylish and we were happy to wait until our room was available - they were doing us a favour after all! Our double room had a sofa bed made up for our son and it was clean, spacious and airy with lovely decor and an immaculate bathroom. The beds were very comfy and we had a fridge in the room too. Our stay included breakfast which was served a la carte to your table with a good choice available. The full Scottish breakfast was delicious including haggis and potato scones which set us up perfectly for the day. The hotel is well located, only a short walk to Princes Street and about a 20 minute walk to the Castle and Old Town. There is plenty happening in the Haymarket area too which was a new area for us to explore. We parked at the Thistle Car park on Semple street which I think was the Mercure affiliated car park (£10 a night) so unsure where the hotel recommend carpark is, but this was a short 5 minute walk. We had drinks in the bar a couple of times also and the service is very good and drinks are reasonably priced for a hotel bar. It was very lively with plenty of atmosphere on a Saturday night. All in all we had a wonderful time at the Voco and highly recommend for a stay in Edinburgh. Thank you also for accommodating us when the Mercure couldn’t! A great introduction to the Voco chain and are now looking at the hotels elsewhere in the world, hopefully next year!

Me and my boyfriend visited voco last week. We were charged for a premium room that we upgraded to and when we got to the room we were very confused. There was no bath (we later found out this was our fault and we had to ask for a premier room WITH bath which is a bit confusing however I should’ve read up more before asking to upgrade). However, the room was the smallest room I have ever stayed in especially for the price (I’ve stayed in larger premier inns) We stayed in a premier queen room and I really couldn’t make out what made it premier. It was a small room with what seemed to be a double bed not a queen. Very basic but it was modern and clean. I even went downstairs to check we had been given the right room as I couldn’t believe how much I was paying for such a small and basic room. The gentlemen informed me it was the right room and offered me a refund for the difference I paid to upgrade as it wasn’t what I expected which was nice of him.
House keeping was an opt out service although for some reason we were immediately opted out without asking and we received no housekeeping for a 4 night stay. We could’ve requested housekeeping at the desk but after the hassle with the room we had on the first day I felt too awkward to go back again as me and my boyfriend are only young and felt slightly judged as from viewing the customers throughout other days we probably weren’t the usual clientele (mostly business men). As we didn’t get any housekeeping we had to ask for fresh towels everyday and even toilet roll when we ran out. By day 5 our bins were overflowing. I felt slightly disappointed paying that much money to receive 0 service. They said it was due to environmental factors however, they had rooms where the lights and aircon could be left on all day even when you were out the room aswell as a tv that could be left on… wouldn’t say that was very environmental cautious.
For some reason our mini fridge was HOT. It was actually heating our drinks rather than cooling them!
Overall I wouldn’t recommend this place for a longer stay however, for a night or two I’m sure it would work well. It is a modern and clean hotel but I felt really let down by the room and lack of service we received.

The hotel staff were very welcoming, polite and helpful. There was a good variety on the set menu for breakfast due to social distancing we had table service. Staff were still flexible to serve literally what you requested. Rooms were of high decor, air con, safe, wardrobe, hairdryer, iron, The bathroom was compact, but shower was amazing with both the rainfall shower head as well a the hand held shower. It maybe slightly on the outside of the city centre, but we managed to walk to the various restaurants, shops and tourist spots.

+1
The staff couldn't do enough to help with my stay. I booked as a surprise for my husband's birthday and the team were very responsive and helped me to organise an upgrade and pre-payment, giving me peace of mind before the stay. The room was immaculately clean, beautiful decor, beautiful bathroom, honestly couldn't ask for anything more! Housekeeping were amazing- we stayed for 4 nights and they always left the room spotless when we left the tag on the door for servicing.
Finally the restaurant was stunning, beautifully decorated, and the team there were so friendly and helpful. Breakfast was spot on, very fresh and cooked perfectly. My husband was blown away and thought that I must have spent a fortune! (I didn't tell him the amazing rate I got). He used the gym and said it was perfect and practical for the size. I can't comment on that but I trust his judgement.
I could honestly go one for days singing their praises!
The best staycation we've had, we can only imagine what it will be like to stay once lockdown is lifted!
The location seemed a bit out of the way of the buzzing areas at first but we were given a map from reception and quickly got used to the shortcuts and realised it's down the road from the shops!
Special thanks to Tia, Paul and Jana from reception for helping with my booking, and Paul and another gentleman from the restaurant, who was always there. And others on the teams who were very helpful, they all made what the stay what it was.
Can't wait to stay again!

Newish hotel at time of visit (21-22 May 2021) so room (standard queen room) was a nice standard, modern and clean if a tad on small size, and warmish because lowest A/C setting didn't seem to cool. But whole stay was let down by breakfast service. Was slow on first day but just about bearable but on the second morning we waited 1h 20 mins for food to arrive for the three of us. Several other tables gave up and left during this time, whilst two other tables who arrived later got served before us. This was especially disappointing as we had been asked to pick a breakfast time slot, presumably so that orders were staggered. Clearly the kitchen were struggling but no one came to explain to us or offer more coffee, toast or anything from continental buffet to fill the gap. Lack of anyone taking charge was the most damning, as the waiting staff were perhaps not the most experienced at trying to stop unhappy customers getting even more unhappy. A few words from a proactive manager to each table would have been an easy thing to do. The massive wait meant our key cards for the room and lift had been timed out and there were unhappy customers at reception when we joined queue to get keycards re-enabled. They also forgot that our package had wine and late check out included. Its a newish hotel but no so new that such major teething problems should remain; you can tell a lot by how an organisation responds when things go wrong, and in this case the lack of basic customer communication turned a poor experience into a terrible one. (their subsequent email offering 20% off a next stay was pointless as I wont be returning). Could be decent hotel if they can fix the kitchen and wider service issues, but the duty manager, if there was one, needed to to a whole lot better.

Lovely little hotel. Having booked this trip through British Airways. We were delighted to arrive a Voco. We received a friendly welcome from reception and promptly checked in and shown to the lifts.
On arrival in our room, we were greeted by the bathroom on the right and a large double bed. The room came with complementary tea and coffee as well as still and sparkling waters.
The bed was extremely comfortable and we didn’t hear any external noice resulting in an excellent t two nights sleep.
We experienced one minor problem during our visit. The drainage on the shower! This was very slow and given the longs showers I enjoy caused a small overflow. This was promptly rectified by the reception team and new towels provided.
Drinks in the bar are reasonably priced (2x premium gin and tonics for £13.00).
We cannot wait to return in the future.

Booked this hotel via a rugby package so was not expecting much however the lay out and location was perfect. The hotel is modern and clean however the service was awful from start to finish. Check in was rushed, no information given on breakfast times or checking out times. We only found out when we asked later on that you had to book for breakfast ! The room was clean and spacious and bed was comfortable. The breakfast menu was varied however wasnt told we had to pay for Lattes etc only standard tea and coffee was included in the cost , also staff had to prepare the food and we saw them pick up bread with their hands and same for the pastries so that wasnt very nice from a hygiene side. The gym was disgusting, the cleaning rota was not completed for that morning or the afternoon before. There was no tissue to wipe down the machines and only one spray bottle I went and got some toilet tissue from our room and the tissue was black. I reported this to reception who said she would get the manager on to it but we never heard back. After a long day walking we arrived back at the hotel at 3.30pm and went to our room to find housekeeping just starting to service the room we went to reception and was told it would take 20 mins and to take a seat no offer of an apology or a drink whilst we wait. Another irritation was I rang down to ask if there was an ice machine to be told no but there is ice at the bar if you want to come and get some ! This hotel is ideal for sightseeting of edinburgh but if you want 5 star service book elsewhere

I have no clue. I had no need for this thing. My travel agent had other questions before we left the US for the UK and she asked the hotel (I think she wrote back and forth with a manager) and got answers so I suspect you can email and find out.
Yes, West End station is actually closer to the hotel than Haymarket station.
You can park at Fountain Park which is about a 10-15 minute walk from the hotel. It’s £10 per day just in their customer car park. Before you leave the car park you pay at the management suite on the lower level of the centre you’ll need to show them your booking confirmation to get the discounted rate.
