Neighbourhood
West End
Prevailing winds meant that most cities that grew in industrial Britain had their most desirable neighbourhoods to the west – upwind of factory fumes. Edinburgh was no exception, with its wealthiest citizens settling in its West End and leaving behind grand Georgian townhouses, private gardens and genteel crescents. These backstreets remain as dignified and sleepy as ever, and most of the action here lies along the district’s busy main roads. Lothian Road connects to southern Edinburgh and harbors a vague entertainment district: three theatres and the city’s main indie cinema. All attract a select crowd, the sort who appreciate the Saturday Edinburgh’s Farmers’ Market around the corner. The West End’s other great thoroughfare, Shandwick Place, is dominated by trams trundling out to the suburbs and airport, and shoppers picking up last-minute items before hopping aboard.

Booking a Hilton hotel you expect a certain level of cleanliness and chic. The Grosvenor Hilton at Haymarket Edinburgh certainly does not deliver that. Described as a 4 star i would probably rate it 2. We were in room 21 for an overnight and the carpets were full of stains as

My wife an I visited for a overnight stay 25.01.19 to 26.01.19. We are regular visitors to this hotel as we find it well located for travel into the city, Princes Street, George Street and so on, via tram or bus, as we like to leave the car at the hotel and purchase a Lothian

I have been a Hilton member for in excess of 10 years and have never seen such a disgusting room presentation. Whilst I accept that the hotel was busy there is no excuse for presenting the Hilton brand with pubic hair in the sink, discarded waste on the hotel flat roof just

The hotel is very well located, the beds were very comfortable, the room very ample, and the personnel (as every Hilton) is very friendly... the only downsize would be that the bathroom needed a strong renovation

The hotel is a 10/15 minute walk from Edinburgh Castle so just a bit out of town but easy enough walk in if you want the night life etc. We had a suite booked with a separate sitting room which was nice. The negatives for me are that the rooms and corridors look a bit tired.

Very poor layout! Toilet roll too close and easily knocked off, and the toilet handle 'modified' to point down as cistern is too close to wall.

Dear BritTraveler68, Indeed the hotel is spilt into two buildings. They are literally right across the road from one another though so you can get from one building to another in approximately five seconds. The type of room does not dictate which building you will be in. Also, standard double rooms in the main building are pretty identical to standard double rooms in the townhouse building (same for suites, singles, twin rooms etc.) Breakfast is only served in the main building - however, the restaurant entrance is directly across from the townhouse exit so you are able to get from the townhouse to the restaurant in a split second. Really, we have nice rooms in both buildings so I wouldn't worry too much where you are placed. When you check in though you can ask to be in a room in a specific building (subject to availability) I hope this helps. Best wishes and kind regards, Gordon Fraser. Hotel GM
