Nestled in the heart of the city, ibis Edinburgh Centre Royal Mile - Hunter Square boasts a prime location that is highly praised by many guests. The unique and funky atmosphere of the hotel, along with its clean and cozy rooms, adds to the charm, despite the rooms being on the smaller side. The staff's friendly and efficient service often receives commendation, though there are occasional comments about being understaffed.
While the amenities are considered basic, they are generally seen as sufficient. However, some travelers question the value, pointing to the high prices for the offerings provided, especially during busy periods.

Detailed Reviews
The room and bathroom were very compact but that was a small sacrifice for the convenience of the location. The staff was friendly at all times. Two of the nicest features were the enormous fluffy bath towels in the bathroom and the great water pressure in the shower. The towel set-up didn't include facecloths/washcloths so we requested them. However, when they were removed by housekeeping during the service, they were not replaced. The room also had no tissues/Kleenex - this may be an IBIS standard. First world problems.
The breakfast buffet had an incredible selection of food so, if you're hungry, it would be a good option. We only had breakfast once because the texture and consistency of the scrambled eggs was not anything I've experienced before and I've worked in hotels a long time. I couldn't even figure out how you would cook eggs with that texture and consistency. I looked at the buffet 3 mornings in a row in case it was just on the day we ate but the eggs looked the same each day. It was a good excuse to try some nearby breakfast places and we LOVED "Luscious".
Overall you can't beat this location.

Decent hotel as a base when you’re in Edinburgh. We live not far from the city centre but while at a wedding wanted a more convenient means of getting home/not rushing for a train, and the city centre location of this hotel provided just that. It was a tad noisy and was very busy with comings and going’s but I think that’s just part of being in such a location and not an issue with the hotel itself. We stayed here before the Fringe Festival starts and the prices were fair, however I am aware prices rise significantly during the Festival. This is a ‘budget’ or ‘no frills’ hotel and the high price tag in summer is due to demand, not because it’s a luxury hotel. Keep that in mind and you won’t be disappointed.

Dear missjm123, Thank you for taking the time to share your detailed feedback about your stay at ibis Edinburgh Centre Royal Mile. We’re glad to hear that our central location was convenient for your needs during the wedding. We appreciate your understanding regarding the noise and busyness, which can indeed be part of staying in such a vibrant area. As you mentioned, prices do increase during the Fringe Festival due to high demand, but we strive to offer good value for our central location. Your insights are valuable to us, and we hope to welcome you back in the future. Thank you for choosing to stay with us. Floriane - Assistant Manager

This hotel like most Ibis Hotels is not luxurious but is a comfortable place to stay. The location is perfect, just off the Royal Mile and a block from Saint Giles Cathedral. The hotel staff is accommodating and helpful. When I told them our room was cold and we couldn’t seem to get any heat, they sent up a space heater. The bathroom mirror is heated so that it doesn’t fog up, a very nice touch. The breakfast is not included but can be purchased separately.

Please DO NOT stay at this hotel! We stayed there 3 nights and we repeatedly begged for room cleaning and no one ever came to do the basic cleaning. The dirty towels were not picked up, the trash in our room was overflowing. We ran out of toilet paper and clean towels, which we had to go to the front desk to get. They lied to us each time regarding the room cleaning. They said we had posted the no room cleaning sign on the doorknob, which we did NOT do. I believe it is a scheme not to hire room cleaning for the guests who are already there, cleaning the room only when the guests depart. Very dishonest and terrible customer service!

We arrived pre check in time absolutely soaking wet as we walked from the tram stop, we thought we would be able to leave our suitcase until check in time......but no! The amazing receptionist (didn't get her name) said she would check if our room was ready and allowed us to check in!! This was very much appreciated and allowed us to settle in and get changed into dry clothes before we explored the City.
The location of this hotel is fantastic for the old town, the Castle and Grassmsrket and there are many restaurants and shops just outside the door.
It is not far from the train station and was walkable from Princes Street tram stop.
The room was quiet, clean and comfortable, yes it is not a large room and little things like dimmer lighting and a make up mirror in the bathroom would have improved it, but for a Central City Hotel it is very good value for money.
Cannot comment on Breakfast as we decided to eat out as there was so much on offer nearby.
I have given a 5 star rating, this isn't a 5 star hotel but for what you are paying for a City Hotel what you get is well worth 5 stars! Thank you!

This hotel is in the perfect location just off the Royal Mile so perfect for all the sites and attractions which are all accessible on foot. The Christmas market is approx a 10 minute walk and same to the bus station where you can get tours and the hop on hop off bus as well as the airlink airport flyer. Staff at reception were very friendly and helpful and we often got a friendly hello when seeing staff around the hotel.
The cleaners did a brilliant job, towels were replaced when required, tea cups changed and teas always stocked up.
The location is amazing (30 minutes Uber from the airport -about £25) and in walking distance from everything you need. There’s a Starbucks s few doors down for breakfast if you want a cheaper alternative to the hotel’s £10 breakfast, there’s also a Greggs and a Sajnsburys near for getting snacks or drinks for the room. We went to Civerinos (Italian pizza place) in our last night, which is right next door, and it was really great, I would recommend booking though as it seems very popular!
I couldn’t give the hotel 5 stars because we found it quite noisy - and not from street sound, we never heard any noise from the outside at all! It was groups of loud drunk people coming back from a night out at midnight and then 2 or 3am! I don’t mind a bit of noise, such as loud chatter on the way back to the room, we’ve all been there not realising how sound travels, but it sounded like they were camped outside our door for an hour, screeching and laughing (E.g whoever was shouting ‘Ellie!!!’ at the top of their lungs) they weren’t, god knows where they were but I was too tired and grumpy to investigate. Didn’t bring up to staff as not sure what they could’ve done in retrospect but maybe there needs to be some Premier Inn style ‘shhh people are sleeping’ signs about? Especially as there were taglines of ‘have a good sleep’ on the IBIS branding! It didn’t really affect our stay too much but we were both tired the next day and we couldn’t recommend it as a quiet hotel for a good sleep as we didn’t have one.
Apart from that though it was perfect!

Excellent location, you simply roll out of bed onto the Royal Mile.
We booked this hotel via a Wowcher deal and stayed for 2 nights in March 2024. The rooms are a little on the small side but fine for us as we went out exploring Edinburgh most of the time. Check in very quick and welcoming. There is a bar near the reception where you can buy drinks and also snacks.
Breakfast was good you have the option of hot and cold items, the usual scrambled eggs, bacon, beans, sausages etc as well as cereal, yoghurts, fruit and pastries. The hotel is in the old town which in my view is the best location. We visited the castle and new town, all within walking distance.
The hotel is approx. 6 -10 min walk from the train session.
We would definitely return to this hotel and highly recommend it to our friends.

This hotel is located in the heart of Edinburgh. The parking, for a fee, is located quite separate from the hotel and give you a discount for the payment of the same. The rooms are simple but not bad. The elevator according to the room you have forces you or not to go up or down a few stairs.

Yes. We left bags.
Yes. They will keep bags.
We have a laundry service every day except Sundays and Bank Holidays. In the reception we provide a fabric laundry bag and a laundry slip where you can find the items to mark that you want to clean and the prices. If you bring the bag at the reception before 8 am, it will arrive the same day after 7.00 pm.
Another option is have a wee trip to Adagio Apartahotel in Cannongate (6 min walking) because they have laundry machines and that's the information about the prices:
• £3 to wash, £2 to dry. £1 coins only for the machines
• 30 minutes cycles, so in total 1 hour for wash + dry
• They do provide changes to break down Sterling Pounds notes to £1 coins
Our hotel has 2 lifts for all 6 floors.
Thank you for your inquiry! While we don't have traditional air conditioning, we've implemented an innovative air cooling system that adjusts to the seasonal temperatures, ensuring a comfortable environment year-round. Additionally, for guests who prefer extra cooling during warmer periods, we provide electric fans. Likewise, for those chilly nights, our portable heaters are readily available to keep you cozy. We aim to ensure your stay is pleasant and tailored to your comfort preferences.
