Nestled in the heart of the city, YOTEL Edinburgh garners praise for its stellar location close to key attractions and transport. While the hotel's cleanliness and modern amenities, such as mood lighting and comfy beds, are often applauded, the absence of in-room tea and coffee facilities has not gone unnoticed.
The staff's friendliness stands out, although some guests mention service can hit a few snags. Opinions on the rooms' design and value for money vary, as does the experience of noise levels, creating a tapestry of mixed but generally positive reviews.

Detailed Reviews
This is our first time staying in a yotel and we were drawn by the bargain price (in line with budget stays such as Tr@velodge). When we got there we were not disappointed! Prior to staying I had mentioned it was my partners birthday and they left a kind card on the bed for his arrival along with emailing me to see if I wanted to order a bottle of Prosecco too.
First the location is great just two blocks back from Princes street so perfect location for bars/restaurants and lots of shops. It’s only about 15 min walk to royal mile too. The reception team were very friendly and welcoming and gave us free ponchos as it was raining. You could check in either with a person or electronically and our room was already ready when we arrived at 11am so very appreciated as we got a bit wet in the rain. When we arrived at our room it was compact bit did not feel cramped in the slightest thanks to clever storage solutions. The whole hotel has a clean, modern look and this was continued in the room with mood lighting, rainfall shower and all facilities you can think of. Only thing we couldn’t find was a kettle and tea/coffee but this wasn’t an issue for us. The toiletries provided were of an excellent quality compared to the usual ones we find in the cheaper hotels.
We opted for breakfast and were pleased as there was a great selection of pastries, hot cooked food, fresh juices, cereals and yoghurts. Lots of choice especially as I had dietary restrictions and all very tasty. The breakfast area is also very modern and stylish with a cool projector on the ceiling which was a nice touch! Loved watching the views of Edinburgh on a morning.
We also tried the bar one evening and found this to be not too busy and reasonably priced for drinks. Our only feedback was the price of food in the bar. It was £7 for a side - bowl of chips and this was a tiny bowl with about 10 chips in so extortionate prices. You can literally walk outside to any nearby bar/restaurant and pay half this. That was only bad thing in this hotel and we would simply avoid the food next time. There is also a nice cafe on site which you can get a discount voucher for by not needing your room cleaning. Think this is a great idea!
Overall our stay was lovely. The hotel was quiet and did not hear any noise from other cabins. Staff were very friendly and hotel was modern, clean and had all amenities you needed. We would definitely book and stay in this hotel and others from the Yotel range again

Visited this hotel on recommendation from family. Fab price and great location!
Didn’t catch the girls name who checked us in however she was lovely! Staff friendly and the hotel adhered to the COVID guidelines - we felt very safe. Screen protectors for checking in / out and no contact when returning key at check out. Only two in a lift at one time so felt safe this way also, alongside hand sanitiser within the entrance and around the hotel.
Room was amazing for the price, we haven’t stayed at a YOTEL before so the bed being upright was a bit of a surprise but easy to put down when needed! Nice separate toilet and shower area within the premium queen and privacy blind meaning you didn’t cut off all outside light by using the black out.
Downsides - not able to open the window but this is probably a safety precaution being on the fifth floor. Our sink plug didn’t stay up..meaning we had to keep our hand in the sink for it to empty/drain (not ideal when brushing your teeth!), and there seemed to be a funny smell in our room? Not sure if we were near the kitchen area of cooking vents, but I kept waking up throughout the night and smelling something along the lines of beef gravy..or Bovril (sorry!!But worth mentioning as it was noticeable).
Nothing that majorly impacted our stay, it wouldn’t stop us coming back as long as the price remained the same :-)
Nice touches inside the room with the clear bag over the remote suggesting it’d been thoroughly cleaned prior to our arrival and nice mood lighting too. Fab location and close to everywhere we needed to be.
Thanks YOTEL

Me and my husband stayed here for 4 nights. All COVID rules adhered to from check in to check out. No housekeeping due to restrictions but you could ask for towels/toilet rolls for room and reception would oblige. Nothing was too much for them. Room was fresh and modern with everything you need for a short stay.
We parked in the Ncp carpark for the 4 days which is by Grassmarket, a good 15 minute walk away which was fine as we like to explore on foot and the car was safe. It should be £32 for 24 hours but if you tell reception they will give you discount so you only pay £12= for 24 hours. We didn’t eat there but spent a couple of evenings at the bar, again staff were great, very helpful and stuck to all COVID rules.
Hotel is in a great location, close to St Andrews Sq, Castle St and Charlotte Square. Thanks for helping to make our stay special .

I stayed in the YOTEL for 3 nights. Check in was quick and easy, the hotel is immaculately clean and covid measures are in place. The location is superb, you’re a short walk away from Princes Street and the Golden Mile and there are plenty of places to eat out nearby which was great as we had our 2 kids with us.
The room itself was comfortable but we could have done with a little more storage space for our clothes. The mood lighting behind the tv was a lovely touch and the adjustable bed gave me a great night’s sleep. The kids were in the bunk bed and they loved it. The toiletries provided in the room are fab, I ended up using these rather than my own which I’d brought! There’s a mini fridge in the room as well as an iron, ironing board and hairdryer. The only thing I was really missing was a kettle. You can purchase hot drinks from the bar and bring them to your room but obviously you’re paying and it can work out quite expensive if you like your hot drinks (which we do!).
Speaking of the bar, we had drinks in there one night and the staff were so friendly! My daughter (10) even remarked how cheerful our barman was. Praise indeed coming from her! There’s a one way system around the bar and there was a good range of drinks available.
We parked in the NCP Edinburgh Castle Terrace on a pre-book rate and 3 days of parking cost us £30. There’s no designated drop off area outside the hotel so if you’re a family with a few bags and suitcases the drop off and pick up is a bit tricky. Luckily the Road YOTEL is on isn’t too busy so we managed.
We enjoyed our stay so much that we’ve booked again for December when we’ll be doing a Christmas shopping trip. I do recommend this hotel; it’s clean, modern, stylish and the staff were so friendly. The location is great for exploring Edinburgh and I’m really looking forward to coming back.

Hotel is in a good location and the concept of compactness is good. The problems we encountered were with customer services. For the price you pay and generally the principal, we shouldnt have to ask staff constantly for our room to be cleaned, beds to be made up and toiletries to be given etc. Literally nothing was done.
The bathroom area is also frosted windows which can be awkward if staying with a friend/family member.
I wouldnt rush back here anytime soon.

I am only giving a 3 star as it lacked in some areas, however to start with the positives, it was extremely clean, fancy layout in the bedroom and the hotel lobby, the bed was amazing, shower was almost perfect. Drinks in the lobby were lovely, Location was perfect
Negatives, unfortunately we only interacted with 3 members of staff and didnt get a great reception, the first woman we talked to was quite short with us and huffed quite a bit which was off putting, the second person was a gentleman behind the bar, didnt talk to us at all and just mumbled the price of the drinks. The third person we talked to however was extremely pleasant and helpful!
Since we went in February it was extremely cold and we got caught in the rain quite a bit so when we got to our room we wanted to be warm but the thermostat was set to a certain temperature and you couldnt go any higher then that which i understand is for eco reasons but we both were numb and shivering and not even a hot shower helped as our room was that cold.
Which brings me onto the shower, it was almost perfect.. it did leak out onto the floor.
Not a massive issue for us but it could be to some people, the toilet isnt exactly private proof, can hear everything as its blocked off with a thin glass screen.
Also no tea and coffee are provided in the room but you can walk to the corner of the street to a coffee shop

+1
A great stay at this hotel, great location, clean, nice rooms, compact but are fab for a few days away. There could be a few improvements but wouldn’t impact on making a 2nd visit.
There’s no bin in the toilet, there is one in the room and I’m aware that the toilet cubicle isn’t the largest but would save having to disregard items in the “communal” bin.
There’s no tea or coffee facilities in the room, however there is a cafe/bar on site where these can be purchased, unlike the HUB by premier inn where hot drinks are free due to the fact they don’t have facilities in the room
The shower is something that could be improved with the way it’s installed the shower doesn’t turn round and stay round so you have to hold the shower head by the hoses so you can wash properly. I don’t like “waterfall” type showers so don’t tend to use them.
Breakfast for me was a disappointment very limited Gluten Free options, eggs overcooked, sausages pale we chose to go out for breakfast on the 2nd day despite having already prepaid.
I would come back, as these issues didn’t impacted too much on our stay.

I am sure this hotel would suit many travelers very well. The public areas are clearly atmospheric, the staff lovely, friendly and extremely helpful. The hotel is scrupulously clean. The location is good, just off Charlotte Square well positioned between the West End and the New Town, as well as a lovely walk down to Stockbridge and the Botanical Gardens. The prices seemed reasonable. The issue for me, and this is a big one, is that the room instilled a mounting sense of claustrophobia in me. I entered the room and it felt very hot, to the point of not being able to comfortably breathe. The windows do not open (and mind that all rooms do not necessarily have a window at all) The room is small and the air conditioning appeared to be stuck on winter heating mode. I was told it would be fixed in the morning and I had then had to be moved to another room which was better but still overly hot. The heating issued bugged me for the rest of the stay, sometimes working and at other times returning to 23 degrees. I slept very badly and felt very uncomfortable. The other issue that really annoyed me was lack of a kettle. The hotel justifies this in terms of minimalist Japanese decor, yet they somehow fit in an ironing board and hairdryer, safe etc. I really missed a morning cup of coffee in bed and a cup of tea or two whilst watching TV and it compares badly to nearly all British competitors. Might the reason have more to do with increasing business in the bar? A final issue to watch out for if sharing a room, the toilet enters directly into the room as does the shower cubicle and you will have no privacy. I won't be back and the kettle alone is a reason so the hotel needs to measure money saved on teabags and housekeeping over guests preferring home comforts.

Location in centre of the New Town gives quick and easy access to city centre. Positives: minimalist approach to room and service. Staff (especially cleaning personnel) were responsive and the room though small was comfortable though the walls appear thin (please cap the volume on TVs!). Less positive: No evidence that the hotel has a 'quiet corridor' or in practice can handle requests for a quiet room. No room kettle and no complimentary coffee/tea. Fridge was useful but on a very low setting and the control was disabled. Stool/chair had to be requested. Breakfast at £10 for a basic bag was not value for money. Bar servce was slightly erratic. The corridor vending machine was not working fully. The main gripe is the hotel's claim that COVID rules meant that rooms were not serviced if occupied. To be clear this is a choice on the part of management as other hotels we stayed in on this trip do manage daily cleaning within the rules. No cleaning may be tolerable for a day or two but is not really adequate for an 8 night stay and meant that the guest needs to change the bin and take the initiative to top up/replace soap and towels and genrally act as her/his own cleaner. Not convinced that the inconvenience was merited by much increased covid security as many staff walked around corridors maskless. But doubtless the hotel owner saved costs by slashing cleaning. Overall, a sadly primitive experience. Would not make this my repeat choice and would not recommend.

Yotel in Edinburgh, Scotland is located in a very convenient location within easy walking distance to the Royal Mile and the Castle. We arrived mid morning and our room was not ready til 3pm. We were exhausted and needed to rest so we agreed to pay the additional 20 pounds to check in early. However, the hotel's credit card system was not working and we were unable to charge the 20 pounds on our credit cards. We tried six cards and they were all declined. It was the hotel's credit card system that did not work. We discovered that our room had a bad shower leak and water flowed out of the shower to fill the small floor by the sink. Also the small fridge did not cool our drinks and it was encased in a wooden container that over heated so much that we could not set anything on top of the wooden container. We asked to change rooms and this was done. The room had a window, whereas the first room did not. The rooms are clean but far too small with only two hangars and no dressers. We had to use large trash sacks to store our dirty laundry. The shampoo and lotions and conditioners in the shower are very poor quality. The large breakfast in the morning is robust but some items need improving. The eggs were not cooked well and bacon was mostly fat. There is only one coffee maker and always a huge line to get a cup of coffee. The cereal bowls were depleted and I had to ask kitchen staff to bring more. The set up is not attended very well by staff.
Taxi cabs are readily available by request at the front desk. Rooms are not cleaned unless you ask the front desk to have them cleaned. You must also request new towels, tissues and toilet paper when you run out. It is not offered. The bar is good for drinks at night but the bar food is limited and sub par. Frozem dtinks ate not available as the ice machine is broken. The price for the rooms is good. You will feel like you are staying in an upgraded hostel rather than a plush hotel.
