The Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa is celebrated for its comprehensive amenities, with the spa and pool standing out as highlights, although peak times may lead to overcrowding. Its modern design and cleanliness contribute to a welcoming atmosphere, earning commendations from guests.
While the hotel's location is lauded for convenience and views, opinions on value are divided; some appreciate the affordable deals, whereas others are put off by extra costs. Service is generally seen as friendly, despite occasional lapses during meals, and the rooms are recognized for their space and cleanliness, albeit with some noise and temperature concerns.

My first time staying at the Apex City Quay Hotel & Spa, and I have been thoroughly impressed! The sleep quality was excellent, with a very comfortable mattress, and there were thoughtful touches in the room, including a lovely welcome message that made me feel at home. The room was spacious, and the bathroom in my standard room had both a bath and a shower—perfect for unwinding after those windy and cold August days. The staff were attentive and always ready to help.
I only had breakfast on one day, as it was made-to-order rather than a buffet. While this is a fantastic feature for those on holiday, it can be a bit less practical if you’re staying for business and need something quick to fuel up and get going.
The hotel is conveniently located near the main bridge connecting Dundee to St. Andrews, making it ideal for my work on the golf course while still being able to retreat back to Dundee for some much-needed rest. Overall, a great stay, and I’d definitely recommend it!

Having stayed in the Apex Dundee a few times previously, as well as having stayed in all the other Scottish Apex hotels, we decided to book again for a nights stay just prior to New Year. The hotel is well located, has a dedicated car park (a small fee applies) and the rooms and service quality are generally first rate. For the Dundee hotel we generally book a room with a quay view, which gives a fantastic view out over the City Quay and HMS Unicorn. The room was immaculate and the service first class. We never made use of the spa or pool, but I have no doubt these would be up to the same standard as the rest of the hotel. The cooked breakfast selection is fantastic, and the buffet selection is not too bad, although could be a bit more extensive.
One issue we did experience was that the room temperature was extremely hot, with little ability to cool the room other than with a fan that was located in one of the cupboards. Despite being mid winter, we did notice that even into the evening a door in the bar area downstairs was left open to the outside, so the temperature appeared to be an issue throughout the building. It was also a little disappointing not to have been able to get the Sprout Duck to complete our Scottish collection, as it’s advertised as being available throughout December.
Overall, a very nice hotel with good facilities, great location, and friendly service, but the room temperature can be extremely warm (we’ve experienced this once before in this hotel, but not other times, so can be hit and miss).

Just back from a couple of nights celebrating our anniversary. As my fiancé is disabled and needs a wheelchair it’s always a bit nerve wracking to visit a new hotel especially when they don’t show photos of the accessible rooms on their website but there was no need to worry at the Apex City Quay. From the moment we arrived we felt welcomed. Everyone was friendly and access was easy from the car park at the rear of the hotel. There are two lifts, quite small but enough room for the wheelchair, me and a suitcase. The hallways are a good size (no issues trying to get a wheelchair passed the cleaning trollies in the morning. The entrance to the room was spacious and got wider as you enter the room. We had room 416 on the 4th floor which had an amazing view down the Tay, the rail bridge and the V&A. As the window is floor to ceiling the view was great when sitting in the wheelchair too. The weather was good so the sunsets were a bonus. The bathroom was lovely with plenty of handrails and a wide shower stool which I’d requested when I called the hotel. It was great to have the bath and shower as sometimes as a carer we can be forgotten about in an accessible room but not this time. With the hotel being so central we never needed to use the car once over the two days. It was a 10 minute walk to several fab restaurants and shopping options with smooth pavements most of the way.

We were very disappointed with this hotel, having booked it because it has good reviews. We paid high price for a quay view superior room. The room was indeed good and had very pleasant views over the quay and the service to the room was excellent. It was the rest of the hotel which lets it down so badly. At breakfast on the second day I asked if we could reserve a table for the evening and was told we didn't need to. When we appeared for dinner we were told that the restaurant was full and we would have to wait at least half an hour. In reality it was longer than that. We eventually got a table and ordered drinks and ten minutes later they hadn't appeared. We finally ate one hour after we had hoped to. Food was far from good and portions small. To be fair the bill was discounted but that should never have happened. Next problem was access to the pool. As residents we thought this should and would be be easy but far from it. We were told that a lot of families were coming in and that the facilities were full and we would have to wait until a slot was available. As people who had paid a lot to stay there this was more than disappointing. We would not return here.

A very surprisingly disappointing stay at Apex this time around. We have had such wonderful trips here in the past and was so looking forward to replicate this. Firstly, we secured our rooms with an extremely cheap room rate (£59) so I can appreciate the visitors this kind of cheap room would attract.
One of the drawing points for Apex Dundee is it amazing leisure facilities; pool, jacuzzi, steam and sauna rooms. But what is the point of these when the whole place is so overcrowded and can't even access these? folk not leaving the jacuzzi or steam room to let others have a go. No one is manning this area so we basically went in the coolish pool for a small bit, got too cold waiting for the other facilities and left. Extremely disappointing considering this is what my daughter was most looking forward to.
The absolute worst is the lack of security in the hotel. This hotel is quite central to the centre of Dundee and any random from the street can access the lift and go anywhere in the hotel! You don't need a swipe card to go to other floors in the building. I was staying in a room next door to my elderly mother. In the middle of the night, drunk people were banging on all of the doors on our floor extremely hard and terrifying her. Then, throughout the course of the night, further drunk people were coming back, screaming and carrying on down the corridors continuously slamming doors. This absolutely terrifird her, especially the banging on her door leaving her feeling quite vulnerable and she did not sleep. No staff are supervising or checking in on these floors in the middle of the night. So concerning.
Quite confident to say we will not be coming back and will book the nearby hotels in this area for their security and care of their guests.

Your feedback is important to us and is appreciated as we continually strive to enhance our service and facilities. I am disappointed to read that there were some aspects of your stay which did not meet your expectations, as we aim to ensure that all of our guests have an exceptional stay with us. We do try to mitigate the impact from the noise, however thank you for bringing this to our attention. Please also accept my sincere apologies for the discomfort you experienced as a result of the pool being busy during your stay and for some of our other guests not following the rules within the pool. Please be assured that I will discuss you feedback with the spa manager to ensure that further procedures are put in place to tackle these issues. Your comfort and safety are of our upmost concern, and I am very sorry that on this occasion it appears we have not met expectations in this regard. We came to the Apex Dundee for one night 22nd - 23rd March. We have stayed at the hotel on a number of occasions and for a four star hotel, it has always been a "mixed bag" of experience, some of it worthy of the status, yet other areas where it lacks the quality of a four star, which for us was not necessarily relative to the cost of the stay. The Duty Manager who welcomed us on the Friday evening was very friendly, most welcoming, the majority of the staff are hard working, efficient and friendly, indeed the hotel has a high standard of cleanliness in its rooms and the pool area in particular is a nice environment due to its cleanliness. The pool water is somewhat cooler than normally found in hotels yet it is a nice relaxing space. On the Friday evening, one female member of serving staff in the bar area was somewhat forgetful, simple things such as asking for a menu which never materialised, or waiting longer for cutlery, and expecting the table to just be wiped, these are just simple matters of attention to detail. There was also an incident concerning a fellow resident who had dropped a substance (possibly a pot of mayonnaise from the local Dominos takeaway) all over the corridor outside our room area, though when we called through to reception we were advised that it would be "too noisy to clean it at 10pm", not the response we expected yet a hard working male member of the team did come up and he did an excellent job of clearing up an awful mess by hand (though we did feel as though there was a rhetoric as though it was us that caused the mess - Which we had not!). The main area of concern was the condescending female receptionist on checkout at 11am and the way in which she spoke to us. She (obviously quite correctly) picked up that we had not paid a supplement on an Itison voucher, we had missed this on the voucher as it had been a very last minute decision (following a very difficult few weeks) to come to stay in the hotel. We had absolutely no issue in paying this supplement, though we did have an issue with the way in which she handled the situation. Firstly in "shouting" across the reception area to the alarm of other guests and us, in an attempt to gain our attention. Then smugly telling us that she "always recommends reading the small print" with a smug smile on her face. Our response was that this should have been advised on the Friday evening on arrival. We left feeling as though this interaction had completely spoiled our stay and now, some three weeks later, it still upsets me that our stay was ruined by this one interaction. We don't doubt that a "we are sorry that this was not up to our usual high standards" response will follow from the Reception Manager. This won't suffice and we will certainly think hard about recommending or staying at the Apex again. As a final point, we wouldn't recommend the Itison vouchers, there was absolutely no saving.

Ah, if only all hotel stays away with the kids could work this well. First impressions are of a big space, modern clean, high. A friendly, efficient reception, sleek lobby and fast lifts. Rooms were even better, modern, neat, floor to ceiling windows. Bathrooms excel with separate showers and baths. And a nice sized empty fridge with some complimentary water. The twin room replicated the double in size and design, my two boys (15 and 12) were very comfortable. The Apex is central on the recently developed Dundee Waterfront, within a 10 min walk to the V&A (remarkably underwhelming on the inside tbh) and a nice selection of bars and restaurants, so once your car is parked (a reasonable £5 per night) you’re sorted. The Yu Spa reflect the hotel’s elegantly simple designs. A nice 15 metre pool with hot tub, sauna and steam room. Changing rooms are large and airy, with ample digital locking (free) lockers and underfloor heating (no wet floors). Under 16s are welcome during fixed hours, that run most of the day at weekends. We decided on dinner on the first night, and all you need to know is that it was so good we chose to eat there again on the Saturday. A not too big fixed menu with £20 for two course (£26for three), excels, with the meat skewers as a standout pleasure. We all really enjoyed our two night stay, and will return, even if we only stay in the hotel no it’s excellent facilities. Thank you to all, especially the resultant staff who made it all light and breezy.

Our party of 2 adults and 3 children booked a family room and a twin bedder for 2 nights which came with breakfast and dinner. The family room could comfortably accommodate a family of 4, with its 2 double beds, with the added bonus of a Nespresso machine. The only setback was that the family rooms were on a floor of their own, so our other room had to be on a different floor. The rooms have everything you need for a comfortable stay, including complimentary bottles of still and sparkling water in the fridge, and quality Elemis toiletries. My only gripe was inadequate hooks in the bathroom, with the only one high up on the door, not quite reachable for the not so tall occupants. The hotel has a good spa with a heated swimming pool, sauna and steam room. Covid control measures were good, with bookings required for swim slots, and staff throughout the hotel were suitably masked. Meals in the restaurant were decent, with no long waits. Along with its central location within easy walking distance of the city centre and the nearby V&A Museum, and free parking, this hotel offers unbeatable value.

Visited Dundee for a business trip from West Yorkshire, booked the Apex for one night and I wasn't disappointed. Great location, on site parking too. Lovely welcome, fast check in, easy to arrange parking charges. The lobby is welcoming, clean and modern.
Rooms are of a very high standard, great bathroom and walk in shower. Massive TV, comfy bed and a great amount of space in the deluxe rooms.
Stayed for dinner and breakfast and the food was fantastic and I would consider myself a foodie. The set menu prices don't actually save you anything in monetary value, which I found odd but it was good value and well-priced for the quality of food. Breakfast was equally as good and all the staff were excellent, efficient, well trained and polite.
I did use the gym which wasn't extremely well kitted out but the pool and spa area was brilliant.
The front desk staff were particularly helpful when dealing with a special request, so I thank them for their kindness.
I can't find a fault with any part of my stay and although I'm not likely to spend much time in Dundee in future, Aepx is 100% somewhere I'd stay again.

I wanted to have a rest day and enjoy the spa facilities! I was very happy with the stay, easy check-in nice spacious room clean spa! With an Amex offer I also had a 10% cashback which made my stay even cheaper! I will return for sure! The only comment I would like to make is for the parking. It would be nice to have an option to include that directly on the room rate rather being an extra charge but this just a personal preference. Looking forward to come back!

Yes in front of t of reception area give no plate to reception think they may charge. The green market car park is cheaper and a little walk to get to apex you can leave it over night for the whole weekend.
Hi yes it used to be free but now they charge £5 per day you will be told that the car park does not belong to the hotel but it does they have asked an outside company to manage the parking but they take the payment just leaves a bad taste in your mouth
There are more places to choose from in the Dundee area.
