The Best Western Dundee Woodlands Hotel is well-regarded for its prime location, with many guests enjoying the easy access to Dundee and Broughty Ferry amidst tranquil surroundings. A welcoming atmosphere and clean, comfortable rooms with amenities such as TVs and coffee makers are frequently mentioned, although the décor is sometimes seen as outdated. While the service is often highlighted for being friendly and accommodating, opinions on value are mixed, with some guests finding the room rates reasonable and others questioning additional charges, particularly for the leisure facilities.

Overnight stay with breakfast and evening meal - very comfortable and friendly hotel in a fairly central location but feels very secluded as it's surrounded by trees.
I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a base to visit the Broughty Ferry area.
Only one issue and this will only affect a very few people. The room had recently been renovated and there were no power points on the side of the room where the beds are. I have sleep apnea and can stop breathing in my sleep so I have to use a CPAP device to breath for me. Fortunately I had an extension cable in my car and I was able to run it from the far wall to my bed so I could plug it in but it did create a trip hazard.
Perhaps when renovating other rooms in the future the hotel could consider a power point on the bed side to cater for the rare individual like myself.

We stayed only one night, which was Friday into Saturday. We arrived early 1pmish to be told check in is 4pm. We booked through another webpage and this was probably our error and to be fair I rechecked their website later and it is there but fairly low down on their list. We also discovered there was no lift (who has no lift these days, especially given disability considerations) and we were on 2 separate higher up floors, this was a problem as my friend who is a chronic asthmatic. We were informed if we paid £13 extra each we could have ground floor rooms, with slightly larger beds and they were across the hall from each other, we took this offer. The Manager working with the receptionist were very helpful and accommodating.
The rooms themselves were tired and dated, the net curtains were crusty and hard and definitely needed washing, the rest would have been fine except for the thick dust all around the edge of the room, several inches wide behind the door and very thick under the dressing table and night stands (all had legs which enabled it to be easily seen on a dark blue carpet).
The rest of the room was clean and tidy. We were going out for a while and did ask at reception if they could sort the dust out in my friends room when we went out for several hours, but on returning back 4 hours later they had not dobe anything. We decided not to ask again as it hadnt hone down well with the receptionist the first time, albeit we tried our level best to ask as nicely as we could, so not to offend. With her asthmatic issues she also has dust mite issues so her night there wasn't as comfortable as it could've been. That said, alyhough my room was just as dusty i dont suffer either cobdition so i was ok. The rest of the stay was good. The dinner in the restaurant is excellent, really good in fact, good choice, well cooked and presented, breakfast was the same (with the exception of "gray looking" tottie scones which were not at all nice), but everything else was lovely. The restaurant staff were very nice and helpful, we asked for poached eggs and they were perfect. The public toilets were very clean and looked recently refurbished. All in all with some adjustments to the room cleaning I would stay here again, the grounds are lovely and the night we stayed the hotel was peaceful and quiet.

We have just returned from a 2 night stay with dinner on the first night and breakfast on two mornings, booked through my hotel break website. What a lovely hotel, clean and welcoming. The staff are friendly, always a smile and a hello. The room is large enough with a large bed, no air con but a fan is provided. A coat rack or a few hooks would be a great addition to the room, as there was no where to hang coats/jackets up but inside the wardrobe not ideal when they are wet. The bathroom has a large walk in shower, body wash/soap is provided., large towel, and a heated towel rail, ideal for drying or swim wear off. Dinner on our first night was lovely and tasty. The breakfast is buffet style and plenty of choice...nice to see tattie scones included. They have leisure facilities available at an extra cost. We paid £10 each for 2 night stay and think it was worth it. There is a pool, jacuzzi, sauna, gym. These facilities are also open to residents of the area too, and we had a lovely conversation with one lady who uses them weekly. The hotel is situated within a housing scheme, but is secluded.

The property is surrounded by greenery and has a charming private driveway. Guests can enjoy an à la carte breakfast or a buffet.
Guests must specify a breakfast time at check-in.
The beds are very comfortable, and it is only a 10- to 15-minute walk to the water. The late shift staff and the Check-out process were very friendly and attentive (the lady with the blue hair). Unfortunately, I can't remember her name. The team at dinner was very friendly, efficient, and the food was delicious. Coffee, tea and water were provided in the room.

There was no elevator to our room so we had to carry our luggage up the stairs, which was not easy. The beds squeaked and the soundproofing was poor, so you could easily hear sounds from other rooms and the hallway. In addition, the air in the hallways was often stale and stuffy. The internet in the room was weak.
The cold water tap was broken and difficult to control, and the water pressure in the shower occasionally decreased. The tap water had a strong chlorine taste, so we preferred to drink mineral water. The experience at reception on arrival was quite disappointing as the receptionist did not even get up to greet us, which made the reception rather unfriendly and sad.

I have been to this hotel before so I knew what to expect. The rooms previously were in need of updating but I was delighted to see that the one allocated had been refurbished and it was nice. I decided on this hotel because of the leisure facilities. I was disappointed to find out after I had made the non refundable booking that these came at a cost. As I been here before and this was not the case I didn't think to check. I got a good rate for the room so it wouldn't have been a deal breaker. Two days prior to arriving I received an email saying the pool was closed due to an incident. I wasn't told what this was and I wasn't offered a refund. I could have booked accommodation in the centre of town which would have been more convenient. On arrival at the hotel and when I mentioned the pool situation the member of reception staff looked uninterested and did not mention that I could use the sauna and steam room. On checking out of the hotel the reception staff barely acknowledged me. It was all very disappointing. On a positive, the lady in charge of housekeeping contacted us when we arrived in our room to ask if the room met our requirements. It did but we appreciated the customer service. The reception staff could learn from this. Not sure if I would go back again.

We are very sorry to read you had encountered some issues whilst staying with us, the email that was sent out stated: 'Hi there, This is an email to let you know our pool will be closed for an estimated 7 days due to an incident involving broken glass getting into the water of our swimming pool. Our gym, steam room, sauna are still open. We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause' As the pool is chargeable and an added extra we would not offer a refund on a non refundable booking as it is stated in the booking.com terms and conditions. It also states on their site before booking that the leisure facilities are chargeable and have been for 2 years now. We are very sorry you were not able to use the leisure club during your stay but for the safety and well being of our guests and the members we had no choice but to close the swimming pool. I will speak to the reception staff in regards to the attitude you experienced as this is not our usual high standard and we are very sorry you were made to feel this way. We understand you will not be staying with us again in future. Kind regards

We have stayed here before but was a bit disappointed this time. Bed was clean as was the bathroom. Pillows were not great but each to their own. Socket at the "dressing table" in the room didnt work. Shower was pitiful, only half of the shower head working. There was only 4 teabags in the room so you cant have more than 2 cups of tea and 1 plain biscuit each...... seriously. Get more than that in a travel lodge. Note to self....... if I ever stay here again take my own teabags and a packet of biscuits. We went for dinner in the restaurant, it wasnt the wow factor but was ok. After waiting a reasonable amount of time to take order for a dessert, no-one came, we just left. Waited at the till for a fair amount of time to sign the chitty which once again was unacceptable. But after all that I am sure we will return.

Thank you for your review, we are sorry to hear there were faults in the room had these been reported to reception our on site maintenance could have resolved these quickly for you. There is extra tea bags, coffee, milk, sugar and biscuits available at reception if you run out or require more we are happy to provide more if asked. We ask for the room charge bills to be signed as anyone could state your room number to charge to so as a precaution we ask to see the signed room card and ask the guest to sign the bill. We do hope you choose to stay with us again in future. Kind regards

We stayed in this hotel and had the experience of three separate rooms - each were very clean and the housekeeping team are very much to be commended. The twin rooms are a good sized though the furniture can be tired also, you may find a shower over bath though the shower is a good quality and you feel that you are clean! My only gripe with all of the shower facilities was that whoever installed the soap dispenser put it up far too high to make is accessible for shorter folk! The bed in the first room was far too soft while the bed in the second room was far too hard We also had a double which was a much nicer room, newer furniture and an upgraded bathroom with walk in shower, though the room was far smaller, the beds had been badly joined together which made for a large bed though an uncomfortable centre section. I did feel that the shower would have benefitted from a grab rail in each of the bathrooms I would also recommend that you check what floor you are on and if it is accessible via lift if you have any mobility problems. The breakfast was tasty and the staff were very friendly, it was noticeable that the vegan sausages were possibly chosen by a meat eater (too "meaty tasting"). Staffing wise, we did notice a big difference between breakfast on the Saturday and breakfast on the Sunday. Saturday team seemed to work well and everyone seemed relaxed, Sunday team there was a supervisor (female, blonde, older lady) who seemed to be getting on at a member of staff, they were also having a good moan as a group about somebody/something. It was just a little crass and it could have been done outwith the earshot of customers. I came for a relaxing weekend away, I don't need to hear staff drama. We did like the breakfast room, was nice and bright, almost reminded me of being abroad, really nice decor. We found that the bar closed up fairly early on an evening, staff seemed to be a bit irritated with anybody coming in "late" - If honest, I have never seen a hotel bar close that early. The car park is large and ample, though more disabled spaces are required (there are two/three) and they were always taken.
Indeed, due to poor parking of fellow guests, it may have helped if the parking spaces were properly defined with white lines. We enjoyed the pool area, we felt that a few simple disabled accessible adaptions could be installed we were also disappointed that the price was in addition to the cost of the stay, this could have worked out very expensive for us, not sure that a flat rate actually works in this respect. As a final point, we have always found it very hard to book this hotel it is always very popular at weekends (hence why we had a broken booking) hence would recommend booking in advance, it does appear to be popular for weddings and we think it would be a nice place for a wedding, though in future we might just phone and avoid trying to book online.

Thank you for your review. We can only apologise about the inappropriate behaviour of our breakfast staff and we will address this with them as it is highly unacceptable, and not up to the standard we expect. The reason for your room moves was that your stay came in to us as 3 separate bookings, of 3 different room types. We were unaware that you had mobility issues until your arrival, as you hadn't booked disable access rooms, and had we known this in advance, we would have allocated ground floor rooms for you where possible. With regards to the bar closing early, the shutters are down as after 11pm the bar is closed to non-residents only. We would always advise calling the hotel to book directly, in order to receive the best price, and to be allocated the best room type for your needs. Best Regards

Our extended family of 6 adults and 3 children (aged 6 to 9 years old) enjoyed a Father's Day lunch at the Beeches restaurant.

We booked over the telephone in advance and advised of an adult wheelchair user which was no problem at all. We have previously enjoyed private dining in the Library room here and we find the restaurant very accessible, warm and friendly. Staff as ever are great and efficient.

Food was enjoyed by all. Fish n chips delicious as was the sea bass. Kids enjoyed their meals with the burgers a big hit.

Overall, a lovely treat for Father's Day. Enjoy!

Myself, my husband , my mum and a friend all booked to stay here Friday 30th June for 2 nights, bed and breakfast.
Grounds, absolutely beautiful and plenty of car parking paces.
Reception, met by the wonderful Julie and Darren who got us all checked in very quickly, each room had 2 cards each.
Rooms…our room was a king and it was massive, beds extremely comfortable and shower was strong which is always something I like. There is an iron board, iron, kettle etc and have to say it was a beautiful room.
Restaurant… we decided to eat in the restaurant on our first night and the food was just amazing, very fresh, plenty on our plates, so good in fact we booked to eat on the 2nd night too. Very reasonable priced too, we bought one of Redwoods lifetime cards which cost £10 and this gave us 10% off meals , the fact this is a lifetime card is really well worth it as it paid for itself pretty much after the first meal.
Breakfast…. Plenty to choose from here, yogurts muffins, croissants, cereal, fresh fruit, juices all of the usual plus all that is needed for your cooked breakfast too, if you want anything made by the chef from the menu you can get this done too……
I have to say there is absolute nothing that we would have changed about our stay at this beautiful hotel, the staff were all lovely too and a credit to the management here. Special mention to Julie for making our 1st stay here a great one and we will definitely be back.

Lovely, accommodating staff. They took care of me and my mum.
The food was really good - breakfast and supper. Well made.
Room was warm, despite the -2 temperatures.
Beds were very, very comfortable.
Could access apps on the TV so curled up warm in bed with a wine from the bar and a film to see out the night.
