The town of Ballintoy was so quiet and we ate/ drank in both the Fullerton and Carrick A Rede ropebridge bar. We will definitely be back.
If there was one limitation I would suggest a wee change of music as the short playlist was on repeat, and as much as I Iove Eagle Eye Cherry’s “Save Tonight” I think I heard it 8 plus times. Minor problem though.
The room we stayed in was spotless and had everything we could need (including a stunning view of the ocean)
Breakfast was top class, an excellent start to the day and certainly enough to sustain you until later in the day.
Dinner x 3 nights has been delightful.... great choice on the menu and everything we tried was cooked to perfection.
The bar area is cosy , comfortable and spotless.
Last but not least , part of what made this such a pleasant stay was the staff. They are all so friendly, professional and nothing was too much trouble. We were greeted and treated like old friends, and the craic was on tap! I must give a special mention to Helen , John and Orianne.
We can’t wait to come back.
Unfortunately there is a lack of storage space in the bedroom, with no drawers available The bathroom had no storage or shelves so washbags had to be left on the floor.
Cleaning was good, although mugs were not washed and refreshments were not replenished regularly.
The Fullerton Arms is very well located for visits to nearby towns such as Ballycastle, Portrush, Portstewart or Coleraine. There is also a nice walk down to Ballintoy Harbour more or less across the road. This was the location used whilst filming for some of the scenes from Game of Thrones and fans will recognise the surroundings immediately. The bar of the premises has an impressive Game of Thrones carved entrance door and a replica Iron Throne where you can get your ideal photo opportunity.
Can't say enough positives about this place. I have no doubt we will be back for another visit again next year.
The. value for money at this hotel was outstanding when I arrived I realised the price I paid included breakfast on both mornings which included a choice of continental and home cooked options. Breakfast was served between the hours of 8 - 10 and was well organised and quick service.
The room was beautiful very modern and recently renovated from what I understand. Two comfy double beds and a large private bathroom with a big shower the facilities where lovely,
The staff where wonderful I interacted with many of the staff during my two night stay and all of them made my solo stay so lovely. The food in the restaurant is fantastic so good I ate their on both evenings and really enjoyed both meals.
I can't wait to go back again soon
In short it’s a cute hotel but I wouldn’t stay there again
We had breakfast in the Fullerton each morning and dinner on our first night. Whilst the dinner was ok I did have to wait a half hour for a pint of Guinness as the barman had an issue with the gas/pump. There was an issue with breakfast being included in our reservation as we didn’t get the option to include it and presumed it was included so had to pay extra for this. However the staff were very friendly and helpful when we raised these issues and able to assist us.
The Fullerton is ok for a base and conveniently located if driving around the scenic spots during the day but we personally would not stay more than a couple of nights as it’s very remote and nothing there for kids etc. For our dinner on other nights we drove to Ballycastle approx 10 mins where we had pre booked restaurants.
We ate in the bar / restaurant all three nights and all of our dishes and drinks were excellent. (We’d booked to eat at the Carrick-a-rede bar across the street one night, but we had a lucky escape when they told us 20 mins before our time slot that they had run out of most dishes on the menu. Fortunately the Fullerton Arms was able to take us with zero notice, and as usual it was “no problem”.)
Breakfast in the Fullerton was ok tho I’d recommend the porridge rather than the fry which seemed a bit reheated.
The staff were all exceptionally friendly and attentive, especially Stephen who resolved some minor issues in a professional, genuinely “no problem “ manner.
In the area: Don’t miss the stunningly picturesque harbour less than a mile from the hotel (walk rather than drive if you can ...). But feel free to miss the overhyped “dark hedges” on the Game of Thrones Kings Road which look nothing like the tv version. Save a couple of hours and take a selfie at the genuinely pretty door In the Fullerton Arms that’s made from a dark hedges tree, or even at the kitschy reproduction throne near the bar.
To cut a long review short, I hope to come back to the area and will definitely want to stay at the Fullerton Arms again.
